Knicks · Frank Isola tweeting JR Smith getting 5 game suspension for drug use (page 4)

Nalod @ 9/7/2013 10:55 AM
INstead of sitting stupid suspended behind Rihanna this cat got front row talent and could have been a "brand" of allstar in the vein of Mcgrady-Melo-Carter...........Not an alltime great but a stat machine that could make a discussion one day for HOF and a 100mm net worth.

Instead he is a friendly likable clown who is squandering a gift.

I understand the idea of fun. But time to grow up.

3 times, dude don't get it.

TeamBall @ 9/7/2013 11:40 AM

A friend of mind texted this pic to me last night. I dont know if JR put this pic up himself but im hearing he did.

Even Lebron has admitted he smokes weed.

Difference is he doesnt seem dumb enough to get caught, on test that are announced when they will be given.

He looks like he's having fun in his own time- quick, someone punish him!

smackeddog @ 9/7/2013 2:44 PM
The timing of it is very fishy- I'm sure after the Odom story got out, the league wanted to make a statement- probably targeted players that were more likely to test positive.
SupremeCommander @ 9/7/2013 3:17 PM
I remember hearing something about Rihanna tweeting something that implied he blew rails before one of the many shitty games he had in the playoffs. The dude got a taste of success and it went straight to his head. I was a big JR fan during the regular season but now? I don't care what he's doing on his time, but right now he represents the NBA and he is increasingly approaching/becoming a liability

The test is random, they merely announce when this particular one is...right at the end of the season.

The test or the league isnt the issue....JR actually dumb enough to get caught three times is, and actually doing so during a playoff run.

It should be obvious since that person doesnt have any tattoos on his fingers like JR does.

My God, you're still defending this AH. Exactly what does JR have to do for you to tear down those tiger beat posters? My agenda for this team is to sign players who don't torpedo us at the worst possible moments, who don't get suspended for stupid ish like this. If he can avoid testing positive, I don't care if he's the second coming of Peter Tosh, but he didn't, and you're still defending him.

Not defending him? Of course you are, talk about weak. As far as my "hate agenda" look back at my posts about JR all of last season up until the playoffs. I was one of his biggest defenders, but I'm willing to admit when I was wrong about someone changing their stripes. You keep using the word "hate", that's fanboy talk. You called it "hate" when I said JR should get no more than a three year deal, if he got any deal at all. Guess Grunwald is a hater too.

As far as what he told a bunch of kids, this is the 21st century, news spreads like wildfire. Someone who is on twitter as much as JR should know that by now. You make it sound like it was the only answer he could have given them.

This isn't about the morality of smoking weed, hell no. Its about knowing that you let your team down in a big way and taking the appropriate precautions to avoid letting the team down again. Its about being available to play. They may win those 5 games without JR, they might not, it could make a difference in the seeding, or it won't. JR shouldn't have put the team in this position to begin with.

I read somewhere that most NBA ballers smoke in the offseason, I don't have any problem with that. Almost all of them of them take precautions to avoid testing positive. Whatever he did or didn't do to avoid a positive result, JR came up short, again.

I believe you're a knowledgeable poster and fan, but you have this soft spot for JR that I just can't fathom. Calling me a "hater" is way over the top. Not after I spent most of last season defending JR. I'm Po'd at him, but I don't hate him. The only player I ever felt anything close to hating was Quentin Richardson and even after he came back last season I posted that I would be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. I'm not the most knowledgeable poster on this board, but I do believe when it comes to being fair, I'm near the top of the list. I have to throw that last line back at you Durzo, you're better than that.

Didn't hear you call JR out for his "dumb shyt" until now. The only time you respond to my posts is to call me out for my JR "hate agenda", like a 16 year old girl defending Justin Bieber. You called me out because you said I was a hater for being against a 4 year deal, as if anything less was an insult. Like I said, Grunwald a hater too? You still haven't explained how not wanting to give JR a 4 year deal makes me a "hater". Care to try now or will you "man up" and admit that you're wrong?

Look back at how many times I said that this wasn't about weed, it was about stupidly getting busted for it. I've done my share of partying myself, believe me. I don't care what JR got busted for, that's not the point. It was about getting busted for anything at all and for the third time. How many players in this league actually get caught, let alone three times?

JR got 5 games. 5 games without JR could mean nothing or it could be just enough to lose us a spot in the seeding, JR shouldn't have put the team in this position to begin with. I don't expect you to speak for the NBA. When you respond that personally you don't believe getting busted is a big deal, you're trying to minimize what I clearly saw as being a big deal, considering everything else that has happened. That's the definition of coming to someone's defense. Just like you're defending JR going to a public event and guaranteeing a title as a representative of the Knicks.

Why promise kids something you have a small chance of delivering? I don't care if JR was speaking to a group of garden gnomes, he should have known that word was going to get out. All this is going to do is give other teams bulletin board material. The East is competitive as it is. Games have been won and lost over talk like this. JR should have learned from the last time he guaranteed something, which is another reason why I didn't like it.

I don't care if you only meant the charity event initially. You glossed over JR getting busted (for the third time) and went back to how I'm a "hater", again. Excuse me for not appreciating that. Now you're trying to make that the central issue and not what JR did. I spent all of the regular season cheering him on and telling posters that JR has changed (I was wrong), but I guess that doesn't count in your book. There are posters who have "hated" on JR from start to finish, even when he was winning games. Call them "haters" if you want. If all you want to talk to me about is how I'm a hater and question my intelligence, don't blame me for responding in kind.

DurzoBlint @ 9/9/2013 11:58 AM
What are you talking about. I never said anything about a 4year deal or any sort of deal. I said (to paraphrase) it was weak of you to use his camp with the kiddies to push your agenda. It was the camp with the kiddies where JR said New York would win it all. You said he was a fool for making such a guarantee. THAT WAS WHAT I WROTE.

From that you somehow concluded I was ok with him smoking weed and now this stuff about a 4year deal, WTF man stop skimming bits and pieces and read all of a post before responding. It would avoid awkward moments like this this with posts going back and forth as it needlessly.

You have a short memory. The last time we had a discussion about JR was when the first report about him getting a 4 year deal came out. Your response to my being Po'd about it was to call me a "hater" for being upset. I asked you repeatedly if giving him a shorter deal was an insult. As far as I can tell you still haven't answered the question. I remember this because once again you're calling me a hater. Not skimming anything, JR is all you seem to want to talk about and when you do it nothing but insults. My previous response answers why I believe it was foolish to guarantee a title given his track record.

SO your talking about A different thread entirely???? How was I supposed to know that? As far as the contract, I don't fully remember my post but, I thought 2years would have been for the best. I think it's too many years committed to a guy who hasn't shown he's fully committed to the Knicks.

Hater was too strong of a term, sorry about that. Disliking JR isn't that hard,....actually finding reasons to keep liking him is probably harder. I just think he brings more good to the table than the bad. Its just that when he does something bad...its really a head shaker. The game suspension in the playoffs was dumb as shyt but, did we get on starks as hard for headbutting Reggie Miller or the other crazy shyte Starks would do. Its really seems like how much one likes a players determines how much negativity they get when the mess up.

ChuckBuck @ 9/9/2013 12:59 PM
The difference with JR and Starks is Starks was a perfectly normal human being off the court. Starks was pretty much a choir boy in his personal life. JR is volatile both on and off the court.

That's cool. My mistake for not pointing out this was from a previous discussion. I thought you would have remembered. My bad. You didn't say anything about getting busted in the first post in this thread so I didn't know that you thought it was "dumb shyt", I should have asked.

Its hard supporting JR because in the back your your mind you wonder when he is going to F up. With Starks, not as much, he wasn't in the league as long and didn't have the checkered past that JR did, to put it mildly. Starks was more of a team first player IMO. I got PO'd when he heat butted Reggie and some of the other stuff he did but I believe from the start he gave his heart and soul to the team and I can't say the same for JR at times.

I was upset with game 7 of the finals but I hold Riley just as responsible for not telling him to drive more to get his confidence back. I'm keeping my expectations very low this season for JR because I was already wrong about him once. I sincerely hope he proves me wrong. He has the skills to do it, he just needs the self discipline to go out and deliver.
