I agree 100 percent that its a BS rule, that JR knew about. Attitudes are changing, the Justice dept recently said that they won't go after growers in states like Washington and Colorado which legalized weed, which is a big step towards it becoming legal nationwide in the future. Eventually I get the feeling that they will negotiate that out of the CBA.

Dude come on, that's a ridiculous comparison. Weed can affect athletic performance, if it had no effect on the body no one would would spend money to smoke it. I don't want JR playing high.

Any depressant would effect your performance if you did it just before a game! The issue I have is when he's out partying and it effects his play during the season. I couldn't care less if he's smoking in the offseason. The idea that Weed is somehow worse than Alcohol is crazy. Alcohol abuse is hard to legislate against unless you get a DUI arrest or an accident where someone gets hurt. Other than that people get away with frequent use of Alcohol without any stigma or punitive issues.
It's 5 games and we don't know that he'd be all the way right for the 1st five games anyway. We've got plenty of players to cover his spot now so I'm not worried in the least about if he's available or not. Everyone wishes JR was a more responsible man, but he's just a bit of a loose canon.

its a bullshyt rule but its a rule they agreed two. Like I said, there contract stipulates certain promotional activities and community outreach. They promote an image and a conduct. They are heroes to little kids and the companies that pay millions to advertise expect to promote a positive image for their investment.
Nobody said great players have to be great men, but nobody put a gun to JR's head and made him sign an NBA contract either.
Bottom line is if a player is high come game time, it will effect his performance. Thus, you have to draw the line.

I smoked weed when I was a kid==my mom grew it in her room. I was around weed since I was 12. I certainly did not over smoke it compared to what I couldve done as a younger guy because I knew my dad died from a heart attack when he was 31. Weed is an absolute stimulant--depends on what type and the grade. It could make you tired or hungry or it can make you roll around on the ground seeing things. The bottom line is its a drug--there is no getting around that. If you are getting caught three times--I mean CAUGHT then its likely you have a problem and thats where JR is. I wouldnt care if a dude was smokin a little once a month or once every two months at 28-29 but this guy has a problem--anyone has a problem who smokes more than a couple of small times a month--just like drinking you drink every day or every other day--you have a serious problem. Jrs not a smart guy hes proven that---he doesnt need weed to exacerbate his faulty judgement--he needs to live healthy and stop now. Hes had his no grow up or get THe Fck out.

He had a great season. Seemed to be putting things together and finally attacking the basket. There was talk at one point in the season that there would be no way the Knicks could resign him. Then he had his epic playoff flame out and it just makes you question if this guy will ever grow up or be able to handle the trust and responsibility that the Knicks are ready to give him with this new contract. JR signed a really knick friendly contract last year. But his shenanigans just don't stop. Youthful indiscretions can be excused to some extent and in fact I think they should be. But this guy seems a bit self destructive.

I can think of crimes wayyyy worse than smoking weed but the bottom line is its against the rules. For him to get caught is dumb and selfish. Thankfully its only 5 games
