paul pierce is an nba finals mvp. no amount of his own antics or hating by knuckleheads is going to change that.
i see carmelo play and i don't see him flop. i do see him initiating contact while the defender is retreating so he won't get many calls that way. still, anthony may be a stupid player but he doesn't flop.

same with garnett.
same with pierce.

varejau used to flop but it's been a while since i saw that and besides he has improved his game.
doesn't matter whether you compile a best of highlight reel of flops. if a player has played 15 seasons there is bound to be a couple of dozen instances that have been recorded of his flopping.
my point is pierce has not made a career of it. he's an mvp of the finals and no amount of "flopping highlight reels" is going to change that. ginobili has 3 rings so he must be doing something right outside of his alleged flopping.

And that arguement doesnt apply to Lebron and Wade why? Ginobili does flop and Pierce certainly does flop as well. Just because Pierce started flopping later in his career, hes not a flopper? Lebron didnt begin his blatant flopping until he got to Miami so I guess he hasn't made a career of it either?

maybe because virtually nobody underrates wade and lebron the way they do pierce. i'm not comparing the three of them here but only speaking about overrating or underrating. most of the time i think wade has been overrated but when he plays defense the way he has shown he can then he isn't overrated as much. he's also been working on being more efficient since the arrival of lebron which will help his legacy a little bit. lebron has worked steadily on plugging the holes in his game and now he can hardly be considered overrated unless there is something ulterior related to his collusion, leading on teams in 2010, and his "decision" show which was a cringefest.
bottom line is that pierce's game is highly effective but not nearly so telegenic as wade's or lebron's. he is no media darling and his greatness is not recognized by the majority of fans of the nba because the majority of fans are not really students of the game, and they watch merely to be entertained.
but so far as flopping all this may be moot. the league did a pretty good job of putting the kibosh on flopping as it is, although it surely gets magnified in the conference finals and finals when the entire world is watching.

Pierce definitely isn't as marketable as Lebron and Wade. Sterns always looking for that "next Jordan" so the casual fan isn't gonna care for Pierce too much. I hate him and I can even say that he is a great player. I also think hes a huge flopper which is where we seem to disagree. I dont see what him being underrated by some has to do with anything.
And mind you...this was during the weakest period the EC has been in a while.
So called great had 3 out of 9 seasons with a winning record....5 lottos....east so bad 36 wins got a playoff berth.
GTFO with this Pierce was always good nonsense, he was the recipient of some damn good teammates.
He even made Doc Rivers look like trash trying to coach that team back then.
Paul Pierce was a stat stuffing loser before 2008.....10 seasons of nothingness.

Part of the whole "winning cures all" thing. Just ask Dirk.

because team accomplishments are dependent on the quality of all 12 active players. It's a bad way to evaluate the performance of any one of the 12 players. How about Isiah Thomas missing the playoffs 4 times, Joe Dumars (3), Reggie Miller (3), Charles Barkley (3), Walt Frazier (5), and Willis Reed (3)?

Yup, almost wanna take a stab into this "finals mvp", which only means a player got hot...not best player, but in Pierce case he was a Celtic longer and playing against his hometown team....it was a charity sway for him.
Since we love stats here we go:
Kevin Garnett: 18.1 ppg, 13 rpg, 3 apg, 1 bpg, 1.6 spg, 2.6 topg 43% in FG's
Paul Pierce: 21.8 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 6.3 apg, 0.3 bpg, 1.2 spg, 3.6 topg 43.2% in FG's
And if i recall correctly as the defensive anchor KG's defensive assignment was Pau so he gave him work on both ends.
Even Ray allen was primarily tasked with guarding Kobe at times.
There is a reason why the face of the franchise normally wins the finls mvp with only a few exceptions.
I even recall this article like yesterday for the case of ray allen equally deserving, and certainly didnt shoot 15% from the field in a finals game....

Pierce was missing the playoffs in his prime and when he was younger....none of those guys missed the playoffs more as the best player, and certainly not as many in their prime.

Pierce had only 1 season in his prime where he was healthy and the team missed the playoffs. You're evaluating the issue as a Pierce hater, not an objective outsider IMO.

I'm basing on what he was able to do which was put up empty stats....or better yet not do.
He was no winner prior to to KG and Ray, he wasnt making anyone better, and for most of his career he couldnt even make the playoffs during the weakest era the east had in quite a long time.
Why would i need to be objective, no one cared about Pierce before the big three forming.
He couldnt even be voted in as an all-star starter, even his own teammate got a start over him one year in Antoine Walker.
no one cared about Pierce...he wasnt doing anything worth noting.

Pierce only had one year where he missed significant time and they werent winning even when he played that year....which was the year before the big three forming.
From age 23 to 28 he missed less than 10 games....the guy was durable and played...he just was not winning while being the best player.

+10 to the 80th power [checked my math this time]
Game, set, match.
Best player, and not even good enough to qualify as a first round exit ramp.
Funny, PP gets 4 pages of defense, and Melo gets as many threads per page telling us what an inefficient loser fhuckup he is. And yet, on every list you can look up of active players, Melo is considered top 10 to get into the HOF.
There's an analogy for you.

This boils down to you simply disliking the fact that some people give a lot of weight to offensive efficiency
