Will Amar’e Stoudemire participate fully in training camp? Doesn’t sound like it, according to Raymond Felton.Felton believes Stoudemire will be held out of much of the preseason in order to have him ready for the regular season and preserve his knees.
Felton said Stoudemire is only starting to run during informal workouts and isn’t scrimmaging with the team. The Knicks’ training camp officially opens Monday.
“He started running today,’’ Felton said at an Under Armour appearance. “He’s not playing. We’ll sit him out as long as we can. He’s getting shots up. We don’t need him to go hard now. Training camp isn’t that big for us. It’s more for the young guys.’’
Will Stoudemire play in preseason?
“I’m not really sure,’’ Felton said. ‘We need him to be there, to see what’s going on. If a coach puts in a new play, he needs to be around. As far as going up and down, banging, we don’t want to risk that. Not for practice. We want to have him for the 82 we have coming up.’’
The Knicks shut down Stoudemire over the summer. As The Post reported, they refused to allow him to work with former Rocket great Hakeem Olajuwon on his post moves in order to rest.
Stoudemire played just 29 games last season because of two knee surgeries. The Post also reported the Knicks are mulling only allowing Stoudemire to play 20 minutes per game and limiting him in back-to-back games, which would be easier this season with the addition of power forward Andrea Bargnani.
http://nypost.com/2013/09/24/stoudemire-...Alan Hahn also wrote a similar piece. Wow, his knees must be in the midst of disolving! at best we're looking at 20mins per game (remember the Knicks haven't ruled out 10!), and no back to backs.
I hope he gets through the season- I do like him and it's tough to see a hard worker keep suffering injuries.

I kind of know that, but I'm in denial!
Why doesn't he do the Kobe and get German steroids pumped into his knees to at least make some sort of contribution to the team?
Phucking waste of space...
Felton's talking like he's running Woody's tape sessions, and has been given veto power on the rotations during the season. Does this strike anyone as odd?

Yeah
remember this?

fucking crazy? absolutely.
odd? no, not given this administration's track history,
HE is the one people should be focusing and hating on if anyone. You want to point the finger at someone (haters) then point at the 100million dollar statuette.

can't hate amar'e,
he didn't hold a gun to anyone's head and demand a max deal,
that's all on our genius in the big chair.
i don't want to say that i called this, that's not my nature, but i called it.

Yea, but he doesn't wear a headband.

lol
hey i'm looking at amar'e's stats from last year,
and he had to be the most efficient player in the universe,
sick numbers in limited time.
if he can give us 20 minutes a game this year, would take that in a heartbeat
He ruined his knees doing squats.

Agreed

Can't hate on STAT. Hate the contract, sure, but the guy's been working hard since he got here, and outside of the fire extinguisher moment, has been a true professional on and off the court. He's handled the diminished role with class in an otherwise frustrating situation.
Not expecting much this season from him, but will absolutely be cheering him on.
Retire you nursing home muhfuh. Just go away and let us get on with winning. Don't need an albatross on this team. Start working on your Bar Mitzvah torah portion and let the youngins do the hoopin.

But honestly, how do you really feel?
Do you suggest Jimmie the Geek just pays him to stay away? He's this gen's H2O. Thankfully Melo's here to absorb most of the board's hate.

1. Melo will opt out.
2. Resign max deal.
3. Knee's hurting in year 3 of new deal.
4. Moan about "nobody bid for him, we bid against ourselves!
5. Lament his signing and his pending "expiring contract" trade value!
In other breaking news, the sky is blue!
I actually like the way the Knicks are handling STAT. He finally had a summer with no surgery and almost no activity. They cleaned out the Knees which is a common thing for many athletes over the course of their career much more so when you have had knee problems already. None of this means his knees are done. Unless you have an inside look at his knees then you don't really know what is going on. Let's not forget that he actually came back and played last year. They didn't do a reconstruction of his knees or say that he had some kind of bone on bone condition which makes it impossible for him to play. That may be the case but no one has any proof of the real condition of his knees. If he can play 20 mpg and actually make it thru the season and be there for the playoffs that would be great. We just have to see if that can happen.
Also remember that STAT's injury problems have been about more than his knees. He missed playoff games due to his back and also when he cut his hand. It's hasn't been his knees every time. In fact he actually played, tho in a limited role last playoffs. So the number of missed playoff games due to his knees have not been as many as some make it seem. I really hope we can come up with the right balance of minutes and rest for him. I don't hate on the guy cuz I think he really busts his butt to get back and to play thru pain. He deserves a break for a change.

but he is the BIGGEST reason we aren't better than we are. Melo would likely be more efficient if we had our OTHER ALLSTAR on the floor to take some of the pressure off. That's just common sense and basketball 101.
