This organization is such an embarrassment. The timing of this is completely insane. And we're bringing in a guy with a terrible track record with player personnel experience. And I found this on Posting and Toasting:
Browne Sanders wept on the witness stand when she recalled telling Steve Mills, the president of MSG Sports, about Gonsalves and Marbury. The Marbury sex tale is not central to Browne Sanders’s case against Thomas and Dolan. But it is being used to show what does and does not happen when employees complain about sexual harassment at the Garden. Browne Sanders has accused Thomas of verbally, then sexually, harassing her during the two years they worked together; she said that she repeatedly told Mills to intervene but that he never did.
She also testified that in late 2005, after complaining to Mills that Thomas had poisoned her work environment, he warned her against persisting with her harassment claims. “Steve said Isiah’s going to start a rumor about you having an affair with Jeff Nix” —a Knicks assistant general manager at the time — "and I said, ‘Is this a threat?’ "She said that Mills dissuaded her from hiring a lawyer.
It's disgusting.
I don't know how anyone can make a case good or bad for the future of this franchise based on this move. It's not about trying to rationalize or apologize for the move. I just can't say how this will eventually effect the team going forward because we don't know what moves they're likely to make.
When I question the reason for the move it seems not to make any sense. If all this time Grunwald was doing exactly what Dolan wanted, then why would they demote him? It seems that it makes more sense that Grunwald and Dolan disagreed on moves. How else can we interpret the demotion? We just don't know, but hopefully some truth will eventually come out.
I think Dolan has been unimpressed with Grunwald's moves and is looking down the line to big decisions that will have to be made on the Coach and roster. When Dolan went over Walsh's head in the Melo trade negotiations it was the same kind of "vote of no confidence" move.
Exactly. It was all fun and games until the Nyets got KG and Pierce.
What the PHUUUUUUCK?!?!? just saw this.. I'm speechless.
And we're wondering why we repeatedly get fleeced in trades/miss out on deals. Who's supposed to respect us?

I want to know why it was necessary to basically fire Grunwald? I thought he was doing the bidding of Dolan, so why would he be demoted? Perhaps the moves they're been making haven't really been directed by Dolan/Isiah as much as we thought or maybe this is a move away from Isiah and his cronies. Maybe Dolan is moving towards Mills to clear the way for Houston.
Well, you're here trying to rationalize and apologize already. Can't say I'm not surprised. The Knicks can hire back Isiah Thomas as GM and you would try and spin it in some way.
Allan Houston has proven nothing at all that tells us that he will be a good GM. Being a good guy and a good former player doesn't qualify him.
Dude...you seriously need to chill.
The mature thing to do IS to take the wait and see approach. We can huff and puff all we went but thats not going to change anything. Whether we like it or not, Steve Mills is back and all we can really do is hope that things will be different this time around.
You're a fan of this team with Dolan as our owner and you're telling me to chill. As if any move this man has made that wasn't forced upon him (Walsh) has worked out in the past 15 years. The man is a cancer to the organization and yet he continues to march on because he has fans like nixluva and others playing up the "let's wait and see" approach. Wait and see for what? Our GM was just fired before the season started and replaced with a moron who hired and harbored morons during his failed tenure here previously. What is there to "wait and see" exactly? More failure? How does anyone still have confidence in James Dolan's moves after all these years? Why do people need to rationalize every goddamn move this franchise makes and try to look on the bright side? When has there ever been a bright side to a Dolan move? When has Dolan ever done something to help the team? Why must we have this discussion every single time the Knicks make an awful move? Do people just not learn? Answer these questions and maybe then I'll "chill".
Dolan, please sell the Knicks.
How can I wake up and describe this in a real world analogy. It's like waking up and finding out you got new parents.

I agree, this scumbag shouldn't be allowed to set foot in the garden. I don't have to "wait and see" how Mills does to know he that shouldn't have any job at MSG in the first place, let alone one he has zero qualifications for.
Can Stern step in on this and negate the hiring of Mills, especially on the grounds of the Anucha sex case?
I wonder what the players and coaches feel about this. A radical idea; what if the players go on strike the 1st home game of the season. Nobody suits up for the game.
if it is indeed penis envy, might it be a good thing despite Dolan. Maybe he will want to out do Prok so badly that he'll hand the reigns to Phil. HEY, A MAN CAN DREAM CAN'T HE :)
The only way dipshit Dolan sells the team is if they are not profitable anymore. The way that happens is if the fans stop going, stop watching AND stop buying anything to do with the team. Then and only then will he sell.
Unfortunately, we are stupid and continually appease him buy doing all of those things.
I will wait and see with this. If Isiah comes back, then I am out for good. I wont support any NBA team, I wont watch any NBA games anymore.
The only reason, I am waiting is to see if H20 gets to be GM. Even then, I agree with all of you that Mills is not fit to run a Ceasars Pizza let alone the Knicks.

woah woah, i did my part by only watching one game last year, and that's because i wanted to see d'antoni/nash more than i wanted to see knicks

i don't expect dolan, hopefully we bring h20,
we see now, what will happen let's hope for best,
will steve mills be making and shaking and baking now?
Media this morning is not being kind to dolan.
The bottom line is the product on the floor.
If your worried about what the players think then consider that Mills was very much in the running to lead the players union.
I doubt very much his hiring will turn off the players.
Again, Knicks are very deep in GM type talent. So I doubt we'll suffer too much.
Im not outraged because one just comes to expect this stuff.
I'll say it again, someone is going to write the book and it will be interesting!

wake up man! the fish rots from the head down. dolan is a lowlife and apparently mills is a scumbag:
"Browne Sanders wept on the witness stand when she recalled telling Steve Mills, the president of MSG Sports, about Gonsalves and Marbury."
"she said that she repeatedly told Mills to intervene but that he never did."
"after complaining to Mills that Thomas had poisoned her work environment, he warned her against persisting with her harassment claims."
"She said that Mills dissuaded her from hiring a lawyer."
this organization can only have bad and inferior people running it because dolan is a bad and inferior person who can only feel secure when surrounded by other bad and inferior people.
wake up!

Dolan has tripled his wealth in the last 2 years
I was ready to watch the Knicks full time again but this gave me pause. I might have to watch Rocket games again.
NYKBocker wrote:I was ready to watch the Knicks full time again but this gave me pause. I might have to watch Rocket games again.
i'm paused too but this shouldn't affect the product on the hardwoods, at least not this season i hope,
unless the players got a whiff of the stinky fish at the head
Berman said Mills also pushed for the mcdyess trade. As you can see the problems go deeper than the GM with this joke of an organiztion

Yeah, Isiah became the symbol of everything wrong with this organization but he was just a symptom of the problem.

I know Layden got the fans ire about that deal, and Nalod been trying to tell the faithful its not just one man, its organizational failure and don't make deals like that unless its with the owners blessing and directive.
Dolan been doing this crap for years so I don't know why some of you are giving pause to your faith in them with this move.
I know some of you give me crap about the Nets but when you don't have faith that your team is truely devoted to winning then it leaves the door open.
For whats its worth I thought Dolans spending was nuts but it was at least a sign he was trying even if it was done irrationally.
Prokhorov is insane what he is spending and I admire the effort. The season will tell the tale, not the concept.
MSG always interesting!
