Knicks · I have a funny feeling the Shump may be gone, traded, out of here. (page 1)

First of all Shumpert has done everything that was asked of him to do with the exception playing in the summer league. At half time tonight when Herb Williams was asked about how the team was doing he mentioned everyone but Shump. Then at the end of the game Woody made it look like no matter if he hit seven in a row JR Smith stands a good chance to start. I see Shump getting the Copeland effect and I don't like it. I believe that a deal was made to start JR Smith. Woody acted like what Shump did was not good enough. if Dolan has it made up in his mind to get rid of Shump then Dolan is an azz hole. It don't look good in my opinion. Hell Shumpert starting should be a no brainer. I just don't like Woody's attitude and remarks regarding Shump. Management Can't get political on us now. I believe that Shump can be an all-star. he gets better every year. Woody needs to get some balls and stand up to Dolan. I am a Knicks die hard fan but have a problem with the Knicks management. Keep Shump.

He's quite possibly our best (only?) two-way player. No way he goes anywhere.
nixluva @ 10/9/2013 11:14 PM
It's very possible that the Knicks promised JR a starting role to come back. I can't deny that it hasn't crossed my mind. I hope not but it's very possible. I was hoping that Woody was just being hard on Shump in order to get him to step up, but now i'm not so sure that's the reason.
NYKBocker @ 10/9/2013 11:17 PM
I think Dolan is still butt hurt from the Lin fiasco and since Shump has shown loyalty to Lin he is going to be on the way out.
arkrud @ 10/9/2013 11:37 PM
Dolan is Boston and Nets fan and his favorite player is Isiah Tomas.
Why you would think Dolan will do any good for Knicks?

arkrud stoped talking

crzymdups @ 10/9/2013 11:46 PM
yup. agree. this was part of the reason grunwald was let go. "disagreements about the roster over the summer"
MaTT4281 @ 10/9/2013 11:48 PM
Shump looked good tonight...
I like to think we live in a world where nobody can be that petty and stupid.

*turns on news, listens to updates on the government shutout*

Well f**k...

New York Knicks Rumors: Woodson leaning towards starting Smith over Shumpert

When looking at the New York Knicks potential starting lineup this season, many New York Knicks’ fans went ahead and penciled in third-year pro Iman Shumpert to start at the 2.

You may want to get your erasers out.

It looks like more than ever that Knicks’ head coach Mike Woodson is leaning towards starting J.R. Smith at the shooting guard spot over Shumpert, once Smith recovers from knee surgery and serves his five-game suspension to start the season.

Marc Berman of the New York Post reported that Woodson revealed that Shumpert experienced knee soreness over the summer and that is one of the main reasons why Smith could elevate from sixth ma to starter.

Woodson said he believes the switch to starter for Smith could “expand his game,” and went as far as labeling him the favorite to win the job. He also said he is worried about Shumpert’s durability.

“He’s been beat up a little bit,’’ Woodson told Berman. “Could be he tried to work too hard. He’s been on and off with our developmental program. When his shoulder went out [in camp], I was, ‘Damn, here we go again.’ He’s had some [time] where his knee has been sore. ‘’

Injuries aside, after being a first-round pick, you would have expected Shump to lock down a starting job by now. But injuries and his inconsistencies at the offensive end have stunted his growth to this point.

Smith, who won the Sixth Man of the Year award last season, seemed comfortable coming off the bench, a role that seemed to fit his personality very well. He became the second unit’s main scorer and put up big numbers doing so.

But Woodson feels that starting Smith won’t hurt the Knicks at all.

“I think he’s past that,’’ Woodson said of Smith coming off the bench. “I want him to be past that. Let someone else get the Sixth Man, if he deserves to win the starting job. Last year was last year. He’s capable of defending, [but] that’s the only question I have. I know Iman can defend and he’s still searching for the offense.”

“You can go back and forth,’’ Woodson added. “I’m going to let the two fight it out.’’

Hopefully Shumpert can thrive off the bench in the fashion that Smith did.

As for Smith starting, it shouldn’t be any different as he played a lot of minutes off the bench last year, a number that won’t likely increase much with him in the starting lineup.

So why doesn't people believe the knicks are being run by politics and not basketball talent decisions?

It's why we didn't sign Copeland and signed Prigs for more money even though we scooped up Udriah.

Anybody that makes a little wave of becoming a fan favorite with talent, we have to move him because of our #1 star Mello. Can't steal any of his shine, but he can't do it by himself he needs help.

Dolan might just want this team to be a show on Broadway and not a bonafide winner in the NBA.

I think u have to take a step back and give the coach the latitude to be a coach...He has to be able to use the tools at his disposal to motivate his players..Competition is one of those tools..If he told both players that next season that there will be competition at the position of SG which turned into an off season workout for both players to get better, to compete, isn't that better for the team??..

RonRon @ 10/10/2013 10:00 AM
I am afraid Papa Bear is right on this one, it would be a huge mistake if that happens
With JR and Tim Hardway Jr playing the same exact position at SG as Iman and neither are much of legit SF's

Unfortunately, Iman is due for a raise on his next contract which is the same summer where Tyson, Amare's, AB, contracts all end
I don't think we can afford to give him anything more than 6m per year, similar to what Gereld Henderson got for 3 years

However in 2015 summer, with the contracts of Felton, JR, Melo, Pablo, all having player options/possible extensions *especially Melo*, it would eat up our salary cap to add 2-3 big named "super stars"

That is really disappointing. I much rather trade JR and his nice contract for a big, but he has too much baggage and is obviously Woody's boy.

gunsnewing @ 10/10/2013 10:35 AM
JR's contract is tradeable. We can only hope. My fear is he will be handed the starting SG job and everything we accomplished will be squashed in one fell swoop. We don't need JR. He is a headache we don't need on this team
NYKBocker @ 10/10/2013 10:36 AM
Watching the Knick/Celtic game right now. If Shump does not get to start then something stinks in Knicksville.
knicks1248 @ 10/10/2013 10:44 AM
Does it really matter who starts, I just don't get it..Jr played starter minutes off the bench last yr and was on the floor at the end of every game..If he is traded hopefully it will be an upgrade to the team...

It's all about team dynamics. Yeah it should not matter who starts but these players are still human. Starting in the NBA not just helps the players confidence and reputation but it also affects their contract situation. At the end of the day, this is still the players job/career and they will be looking for their money. There is a difference in contract between a starter and a bench player.

gunsnewing @ 10/10/2013 10:52 AM
How can you possibly consider starting JR. Leave it to the Knicks to screw up another good team. You cant start Melo and JR together. Even of the bench the occasional good game from JR is not worth all the bonehead plays and poor decisions. This team is cap me of developing great chemistry. We saw it last night already. Do we need JR?
