Knicks · specific questions about game #3 (page 1)
Questions:
-how did CDR do? His stat line wasnt that good i see
-timmy shot awful...bad shot selection?
-ike had a good game. Where did he score from..low post moves? Put backs?
-im never going to expect cole to have good stats but did he at least alter shots & play big?
-have chris smith and cj improved from the summer league
-murry had an awful stat line but was that bad shot selection? Is he playing point guard?
-i always gotta ask about bargs. Im never worried about his offense but how was his defense and effort?
-how did CDR do? His stat line wasnt that good i see
Personally I think he played well. He played like we would ask anyone to play. Pass to the open guy or person who has the better chance to score. However, this did not allow him to stand out. Classic case of guy who makes the right plays but will not get rewarded for it since it does not show in stats.
-timmy shot awful...bad shot selection?
He looked as streaky as Shump and JR. It looks like we will go with the best 2 of the 3 on any given night. Tim, Shump and maybe Murry are the only players that even come close to getting fast break points. I noticed that they always find each other on the fast break then noticed that they were the only ones ever on fastbreaks in the first place. Tim excels at fast breaks. He will make the right pass as the ball handler and finish with authority as the finisher.
-ike had a good game. Where did he score from..low post moves? Put backs?
Started slow then came on strong. He got all his points from either down low or mid range. He also converted a lot of and ones.
-im never going to expect cole to have good stats but did he at least alter shots & play big?
He played timid again.
-have chris smith and cj improved from the summer league
Short answer is no. CJ looked REALLY bad. CJ looked so bad I am not considering giving his spot on the roster to Toure "Right Spot" Murry.
-murry had an awful stat line but was that bad shot selection? Is he playing point guard?
Toure had his up's and down's. He played like a person new to the nba's speed and physicality. Even with that said he was always in the "Right Spots" to make good basketball plays. Don't get me wrong his stat line may look bad to you but he had a very good game. I can see what he can bring to this team unlike players like CJ and Chris Smith.
-i always gotta ask about bargs. Im never worried about his offense but how was his defense and effort?
My feeling on Bargs is that he had had bad shooting night all 3 games. What Bargs does is he draws fouls and shoot free throws very well. So you look up and he has a decent amount of points. Today he got some rebounds taken from his hand and got scored over a few times. The negatives on the defensive end are to be expected from him. We just need him to start hitting shots. With his ability to draw fouls Bargs could easily have averaged 20 points these 3 games if he was not shooting bricks.
I'm not sold on Murry. He looks erratic to me. He is just athletic. He's not a good ball handler or passer. He can make shots but Alot of times he's out of control and misses badly. He's definately a nba talent but he's raw if you had to label him. His defense is still more about effort and athletic ability. Losing by 30 is something that we should also take note Cuz the lady time we list like this was in the summer league with Murry at the point.
I was anxious to see my man CDR play. He was trying not to do to much, but he showed his skill with his passing and ball handling. He made a few attempts at scoring that looked nice but the iron was unkind. Wish we saw more of him. Especially losing by 30.
ike Diogu is a old school guy. He looked like zach Randolph and a fit Mike Sweeney out there. Very strong and controlled. He deserves to be in the nba. He does what he does and what he does is not very nice lol.
Powell was very active as well. Another guy that should be playing in the nba somewhere. He can stick the jumper, defend and hustle.

Good comparison for Diogu---how and why he isnt in the NBA was a mystery but he can play. Doing a 20-10 in limited minutes is going to bode well for him making the team. I thought that Ald ich would get a spot but I think the guys who earn it should take them--with the unknown about amare diogu looks like a keeper.

I was cheering for alrich but you have to go get it. He hasnt done that. Though he isn't awful, he's not the clear winner for a spot. Powell should get it before him.
So if you wanna go by play and impression...ike, Murry and powell should get it.
I still want CDR to drop 20 just to satisfy my need to see him blow up lol
I'm sure he makes a ton of shots in practice, but so did kidd last season and look how that turned out.
murry is eratic to say the least, he has no idea how to run a team
Chris smith, d- league brother..
Ike..good banger dfntly deserves a roster spot
cole...Overseas brother
Leslie..D- league/ 10 day contracts until you get it
shump..trying to prove he deserves to start, but he showed why he's no lock, still eratic, can't finish consistently
THJ..played exactly how he did at Michigan, 2 game great 1 game awful, relies on his jumper too much, loss puppy on defense.
CDR..didn't see enough of him to make an honest assesment, the little i did see..Bench player...all the way down the bench in street cloths
MWP..he's going to make a lot of smart plays that don't show up in the stat sheet..
Woodson....smh losing by 30 in any kind of game no matter who is on the floor is a serious concern..no preparation..just go play..
Powell..some pretty impressive blocks, still on the fence with him
Pablo..aside from defending base line to base line, what else does he do well?? he's a solid pg and in better shape then anybody on the knicks..no way in hell i start him
Beno..I need to see him play with the starters

Bargs hit a three pointer yesterday. From what I gather, he is like Gallo in the sense that there will be times that he will be off and then there are games that he will just explode from there. Unlike Gallinari, he has a post game, and we should be trying to post him up a bit more also.

In regards to Woodson, I went to the last preseason game last year and the Knicks looked really bad. I was convinced it would be a mediocre season. However, the difference in how the team looked the and the first game against Miami was dramatic. It's just preseason and only a couple of the guys that played yesterday will be on the Knicks.

It's losses like that that gives me very little faith..While i know it's a preseason game, losing by 30 is essentially a no show. They never made a run and looked totally lost..These are the players that suppose to make us a deep team, and so far they blew a 20 point lead in the 1st game, game 2 was similar although it wasn't as much of a lead, and never had a shot in game 3..
unlike cope last season, no one looks like a steal, in fact no one looks like anything more then a 15th man

Agree with this. I like the effort of these three in particular. Able to overlook Murry's erratic play due to the rookie factor.....think he has upside and is good on the open court. Powell adds length, athletic ability and shot blocking presence on the D side......I liked Ike on the O boards in particular and he seems to have soft hands around the rim.

Not much has changed for me. Aldrich, Tyler and CDR continue to be my last 3 guys. Aldrich, I dunno man, he's looked like crap, even Woody's been baffled by his play and said so in the papers. I read a quote from coach today saying he expects more, that he needs to play harder/tougher. Wow. Kinda embarrasing for Cole to hear that but it's all true...I mean big fella's trying to make this team -- no reason why he shouldn't be playing like that. I remember what I saw in college though -- even though this dude wasn't Olajuwon or anything, he was more than decent. A big body that was active, a strong rebounder and VERY GOOD defensively. I'm still willing to take him even though he hasn't looked great for some reason (starting to think he might be hurt, esp. after hearing some on this board speculate that he was at one point. I say we also stick with Tyler -- let's take a shot on his potential. And lastly, CDR is a DAMN GOOD player that has nothing in the world to prove to me -- he'd be my 3rd guy, he wouldn't have to even suit up anymore for these pre-season games. I already know what he can do. With everything surrounding JR (injury followed by suspension), we're basically one Shumpert injury (God forbid--not wishing it by any means) away from that position being a weakness rather than a strength. THJ has show he can shoot the ball but I question that ability being his only dimension--he can run & finish too but his ability to really create something off the dribble and his defense are major question marks. I'd like a little more depth at the 2/3. CDR would be an automatic for me.
Wildcard continues to be Diogu. He plays hard and he's got a very effective rough & tumble kinda game. No question that he could be a part of this team and help us if Woody ever called his name. Only question is whether he makes more sense over Tyler and his potential or Aldrich who's been subpar for the most part.

I pretty much disagree because it is preseason. However, I think miami's summer league team was extremely prepared and played like the real heat. I can't remember the guy that coached their summer league team but if the Knicks moved on from Woodson at some point I hope they give him a call. It has to be really hard to get guys to commit to playing in a team concept where they want to showcase their individual talents. I hope cdr's team game wasn't lost on Woodson. The guy penetrated and got the ball to the open man rather then just calling his own number

Right. Hope for the same but I have a funny feeling Woody's not really giving him proper consideration. You can just tell -- didn't play at all the 1st 2 games, then he gets 2 short spurts of time last night, not nearly enough to do anything with. The man's a legit NBA player -- I feel he deserves better than that. Unless Woody already DOES know what he's capable of and doesn't need to see it, although I have my doubts (I mean if Woody liked him, he would've been a part of this team a long time ago -- before Brownlee, last year even over James White)...I'm sure Woody wasn't happy about that lazy bounce pass he threw to Aldrich out high that got picked off. Only mistake he made though -- otherwise, I thought he played very restrained and in control -- content to move the ball to the open man, etc. Not sure if that was enough (maybe he should've looked for his own shot more). Pisses me off a little -- I want the best possible players for these last couple of spots and I know FOR A FACT CDR is one of them. Knew that the min we got him...I'd even make a case that he's a better player than JR Smith. What do ya think about that? I like Toure Murry BUT NOT over CDR. CDR is bigger and the better player with the better track record. Murry's played decent going back to SL but there's nothing he's done in a Knick uniform that suggests to me that he's better than CDR, knowing the CDR that I know. Nothing. It'd be nice to know that Woody realizes the type of player CDR is and could be in an emergency. He'd be a real quality depth guy that should make the final cut. If Woody has any questions and doesn't realize what he's got with this guy, PLAY HIM extended mins and find out dammit! Let him show you...Murry's nice but we already have 3 capable PGs -- if for some reason, say a PG went down for an extended stretch, we could easily go out and grab the best available PG out there (Shelvin Mack, Jeremy Pargo?) and easily fill in with a Toure Murry caliber player (I'd argue even better). CDR's different -- I dunno man--at 6'7", the smoothness this guy has, to be able to score the ball the way he can -- it's damn impressive. I think that's much more valuable to us than keeping Toure Murry. If anything happened to one of our primary offensive pieces -- Melo, JR, Bargnani -- we'd be damn glad we had this guy around to score the ball, I can tell you all that right now. I have my doubts Woody's even considered this.
