Knicks · Woodson to Melo: Stop talking free agency... (page 2)

Unless you'rr Lebron or in your prime Kobe, MJ or Duncan, there is no sane way an organization should lock up as much as their cap into one player in today's NBA with the current CBA.

That goes for Melo and about every other player you could mention playing right now.

And that goes double for a player who will be the wrong side of thirty.

I dont hate the guy or anything. However i am very weary of overpaying a player into his mid 30's when we havent had any real playoff success with him either

if watching a first or if we get lucky 2nd round exit every year is as good as its gonna get youve really set the bar low. Maybe Im spoiled being a Giants/Yankees fan also but the goal should be title. With Melo the goal is ticket sales and advertising revenue for MSG.

Everyone knows how this will play out. Melo will opt out. Knicks will resign him. He will make his $25mm a year, Knicks will win their 48-52 games a year and get bounced in the first round when our star shoots 10-35 half the games, averages 30 points and cries because he has to do it all himself. We have seen this script for a decade plus now.

Its almost cute how some think its going to be different year after year, but papabear knows better as he mentions above.

Why try to draft and build? Just take your playof berth every year and be happy. Titles are for the Spurs or the Heat or the Bulls or the Lakers or franchises who actually build teams to win them, not just generate advertising revenue on their cable stations.

Exactly. I get teh feeling that some fans are content with just making the playoffs and getting 50 wins. last Year many fans werent even upset that we almost blew a 3-0 series lead to a depleted celtic team and we got hammered by the pacers, because hey we got 54 wins lol.

you look at the playoffs since MElo has been here and its easy to see how far we are from competing for a title.

Its going to be the same every year... we get in and lets hope like hell Melo's hot month is in May, instead of March as per usual.

Unlike some here I dont hate Melo. He just is what he is.

If only the Knicks accepted him for being who he is. And paid him at a rate that allowed them to surround him with talent. Unfortunately Melo will get the big bucks to insure that playoff 1st and 2nd rd tickets are sold

Lets get real! We all thought Amare would be playing. So did Melo. If Amare was playing the same way he played when he first came here before he got hurt the out come would have been different.

the writing was all over the wall on that one and i remember the day that we signed amar'e, it was a bad day, i felt like my dog or cat or turtle died

Yeah, I didn't realize his downfall would be this quick but many people were saying that for health reasons, he should not be given that contract.
