Knicks · Is Melo worth 20+ mil per? (page 1)

Moonangie @ 10/17/2013 9:06 PM
Voted "no", but the contract would be WELL north of $20mil, closer to $30mil actually. If we could get him for $20mil, I'd sign up for that in a second.
mikesknicks @ 10/17/2013 9:20 PM
Voted Yes, and even with his flaws we need at least one Star. This is NEW YORK CITY!

Really? What does a max go for now? I thought it was low twenties.

Anyway...Yes, I re-sign him. We're simply not going to find a better alternative.

NardDogNation @ 10/17/2013 9:23 PM
I'm a pro-Melo guy but he isn't worth $20 million. He lacks the dimension in his game to justify it, though the market may suggest otherwise. Whatever we do, I hope to God we have the keen sense to frontload it. Melo's breaking down and we need to safeguard this franchise against that contract in its later years.
TeamBall @ 10/17/2013 9:24 PM
He's not worth it but he'll most likely get it
OasisBU @ 10/17/2013 10:09 PM
Lebron took less and so should Melo.

He isn't worth that kind of money and needs to sacrifice some extra pay to get a true sidekick.

Yup. Another thing to consider: Is Melo waiting for his pippen, or is melo himself actually Pippen, the robin to another star's batman? This is the year for melo, if he can demonstrate that alpha star mentality and lead us to REAL success in the postseason then we can begin to talk bigger money with him, as we'll actually have reason to believe he can successfully be the centerpiece of a team. Until then, I see no reason to be sold on this dude being a 27 million dollar player.

Papabear @ 10/17/2013 10:35 PM
Papabear Says

If Melo leaves this summer and we get nothing back. What star who wants a ring is coming to New York. We've given up all of our draft picks and now we will be in a rebuilding mode. And you know that we ain't any good at rebuilding so we pay top dollar for a has been star and here we go again. The only way we can get another star will be to keep Melo. If he walks who do you think is coming to New York?

skeng @ 10/17/2013 11:19 PM
I voted no. But would there be any way to structure the deal to be way less in 2015, so we would have an extra, say, 8-12 million and we'll get him his 5th year MAX? That could be justifiable to me..
BRIGGS @ 10/17/2013 11:44 PM
He's worth the money.

I hope that he considers giving us a house discount or atleast taking a frontloaded contract so we can have solid spending money the following year.

But lets get real here. Carmelo is a top 10 player who is a top 3 scorer capable of dominating NBA basketball games. Few players like him. You can look at his deficiencies but hes a worthy max player. Does he have 5 years left after this one? Well hes never been a run jump athlete so his knees should hold up and he seems to be a hard worker in the offseason--but there will be risk with the back end of that contract. If he gets it--they must give every dollar they can in year 1 and when they go back into free agency it will have to be a guy who is young.

callmened @ 10/17/2013 11:54 PM
I agree with briggs. The bottom line is hes a top 10 player in his prime so you gotta pay him
Silverfuel @ 10/18/2013 4:46 AM
Yup, agree with BRIGGS.
fishmike @ 10/18/2013 8:38 AM
I voted yes. His teams are always good for about 50 wins. He does a good job winning the winnable games. He will jack shots and sloth on defense and act immature but the wins are there so is value is real.

I dont think he ever wins a title and probably doesnt make it past round 2 ever, his teams are just too easy for good teams to defend. Just pack the middle and let him take his 30 shots. He will score 40 at times and beat you, but for every one of those there's at least one 10-35 game thats unwinable. Cant win in the playoffs like that. But worth the money? Yes.

Only way Knicks ever win big is if they can land a star PG whos star enough to take the ball out of Melo's hands and just make him a finisher. Hard to envision that trade with this roster. Time will tell

foosballnick @ 10/18/2013 8:48 AM
Yes (now). No (in 5 years).
dk7th @ 10/18/2013 9:01 AM
his actual value is somewhere around 15 million. "actual" meaning how good is he as a playoff performer. by overpaying him he guarantees playoff failure.

Tha's if he and the franchise's(DOLAN) goal is to try and really want to win a chip.

You have to ask yourself does his deficiencies hinder you to win it all or can you win it all with them ?
He needs help, players who want to win it all will sacrifice .

I'm trying to make sense of your post. The "yes" is sarcasm?
