Knicks · Report: Suns trying to deal Goran Dragic? (page 1)

RonRon @ 10/26/2013 9:16 AM
Marc Stein added a small nugget at the end of his report on the Marcin Gortat trade, saying that there is a growing expectation around the league that GM Ryan McDonough will try to move Goran Dragic in a similar type of trade for more assets.
Whoa Nellie. Actually, the name Nellie is applicable since the Suns are expected to run like Don Nelson's Warriors teams, and any trade of Dragic somewhere else would probably be a bad thing for his value. This seems a bit like a throwaway line to us, but if you want to hedge against that risk bumping him down a half-round might not be a bad idea.

Dragic is rumored to be available for the right price, similar to what Gortat was traded for
Unfortunately we don't have expiring contracts
It looks like they want to follow OKC's model of building a team but with much more future draft picks, but currently without the talent level of Durant, Westbrook, or Harden

The only players that Suns would probably have interest in are Iman Shumpert and JR Smith, but only JR Smith would really come close to the salary of Dragic
I would like to keep Smith but with Iman, Tim Hardway JR, I realize all 3 are unlikely to be part of our future, especially with 2015 FA when Iman is also eligible for an extension
If we don't extend him, another team will likely offer a contract to him, possibly a poison pill similar to Lin/Fields, especially if Melo opts out this summer and gets an overpaid deal that limits our financial abilities

JR Smith and Pablo would add up to get Dragic, while we would have a PG for our future to build with at a reasonable salary at 7m per year
Thoughts anyone?

With JR, I wouldn't give up a 1st rounder by overpaying for Dragic but that would likely be the Knick's style of trading and I am sure Sun's would insist on it for taking Pablo's contract, especially with NYK

Felton, Pablo, and a vet min player *not a rookie*, might also do it (salary wise), but would def require a 1st rounder

Possible legit scenarios that add up financially
======================================================

1- JR Smith and Pablo (2020 2nd rounder for taking Pablo's contract LOL)

2- Felton, Pablo, vet min player that is not a rookie, and a 2018/2020 1st rounder?

3- Felton, Iman, and Pablo

we still have Brewer's expiring to throw around but cannot be used to combine for players in a trade, however, it will expire by the deadline and will likely require a future pick to get any player of any value/production, some other players I would have interest in are Greveis Vasquez and Isiah Thomas, both on the King's

RonRon @ 10/26/2013 9:18 AM
Also, we could end this Chris Smith BS obligation by trading JR, freeing up an extra roster spot for someone of use....
Of course we would have to wait a couple of months since JR's contract is new

Getting Drgic would be a great move for the Knicks.
EnySpree @ 10/26/2013 9:45 AM
Isiah Thomas from sac is a definite option. Would be nice to get him sooner than later.... but nobody here wants to give up anything and to get something you have to give.

Dude gives us something we dont have. Felton is what he is and he thinks he's better than he is. His heart is bigger than his game

gunsnewing @ 10/26/2013 9:53 AM
What would you give up for static? Felton and THJ?

That would be a good trade. I'd Build around Dragic, Shumpert and Melo. I would look to move Chandler, JR Smith and picks for Aldridge.

gunsnewing @ 10/26/2013 10:06 AM
And a pick but suns could prob do better

That's a good idea. Depends what their plan is in Portland. If they want to build around the point guards And look to run

Am I the only one that doesn't think Dragic is worth the assets we are suggesting? I like him but I don't think he changes our fortunes much. It'll be interesting to see what his market value is though. Maybe we could get him on the cheap and then figure out a way to include him, other assets and a third team to field offers for Rondo (and their shitty contracts: Jeff Green, Courtney Lee, GERALD WALLACE and maybe Brandon Bass).

Otherwise, I see him and Channing Frye being dealt to the Thunder for Reggie Jackson, Perry Jones III, Jeremy Lamb and Kendrick Perkins, with there being a wink-wink agreement to have Okafor bought out in order to sign with the Thunder at a later date.

Dragic is basically Jeremy Lin- they are very similar (even Lin thought so when they were both on the Rockets). Not really much of an upgrade for us (Felton, Lin, Dragic- all average). Don't know why Stein is reporting this as some sort of hidden secret he's unearthed- Dragic's days were number as soon as the Suns got Bledsoe. It does make it harder for the Rockets to trade Lin, as they're basically the same player- maybe Dragic is slightly better.

Dragic is easily better than Lin. I get what you're saying though.

dragic had high hopes, now suns see he will never be the magician for them, time to move on,

dragic is a Super Beno,

take him over felton any day, just not on knicks because felton is critical to fragile chemistry in our lockers

dk7th @ 10/26/2013 3:29 PM
knicks need a genuine orchestrator in the worst way. felton is a scrub using training wheels. knicks are heading for an abominable season if they don't figure shit out and quick.
knickscity @ 10/26/2013 3:29 PM
The package used to acquire Bargnani could have secured Dragic.

Thats why you just dont rush.

I'm sure Shumpert still has their eye though, not sure I'd do it unless JR and Felton go out as well.

gunsnewing @ 10/26/2013 3:36 PM
^last time we rushed we signed Amare for $100mil
Traded everything under the sun for Melo
Signed Tyson instead of waiting for Cp3

Great point

IronWillGiroud @ 10/26/2013 5:58 PM
Dragic means "the one who is loved" in Slovenian

Are you kidding? They are trying to dump salary and Novak is on the books for 3 more years. Camby was owed 7.5 million. Not sure what he was bought out for.
