Hi, I've been lurking on this board for a couple months now and finally decided to register. Seems like a great place to discuss my Knicks (the Alba draft caught my interest as well). Most other Knicks boards I looked at were pretty lame, but this one seems to have a lot of good discussion.

I don't think I've been this excited for a season to start since I became a Knicks fan. I am a younger fan (21), so I only vaguely remember the Ewing days.

I look forward to joining the discussion here.

GO KNICKS!

Welcome SJU! I'm assuming St Johns University.

SJU and NYK go hand in hand! SJU plays alot of their home games in MSG.

Alot of NYK connections from SJU:

Mark Jackson won Rookie of the Year as a NY Knick. Lavor Postell was drafted by the Knicks. Of course Bill Wennington killed us whenever he faced the Knicks as a member of the Championship Bulls. We saw lots of Jayson Williams over his career as a member of the Nets. Of course the one and only, long overdue, return of Ron Artest/Metta World Peace!

Welcome. This is a great place to talk Knicks. Also, make sure you check out SlickSports. It is under other stuff on the tool bar. You can get league feeds for any major sport and also specialize it by picking a city. Go Knicks.

I didn't know constant debates over whether Melo is or is not the anti-christ were so captivating .

Seriously though, welcome to the site.

Yup! Just graduated from St. John's. Big fan of their bball team and think they are going to have a breakout year this season under Lavin. Pumped we signed Metta/Artest, he's got that toughness we were missing against the Pacers. Can't believe the Knicks didn't draft him when they had the chance.

Where do you fall on the Melo is a one dimensional chucker to Melo is the greatest thing in basketball scale?

I think Melo falls inbetween those two extremes. However I will say ESPN ranking him #15 is absurd. He is top 10 borderline top 5. There are only a handful of players I would trade Melo for at this point if age is not a factor.

And Jeremy Lin- is he a basketball god in the makings or a bum?

What did you think of the Sprewell for Van Horn trade?

What was your reaction when you read this for the first time:

KNICKS’ DYNAMIC BACKCOURT DUO RUNS WILD

Stephon Marbury and Steve Francis formed a strong friendship off the court over the summer and in the Knicks’ final preseason game Friday at The Meadowlands, they showed how dangerous they can be as an on-court tandem.

Francis (39) and Marbury (24) combined for 63 points in the Knicks’ 138-121 loss to the Nets, both players thriving in the transition offense, slicing to the basket at will.

Nobody knows if the Knicks’ defense will be competent enough to make them a playoff team when the season opens Wednesday in Memphis, but they should have an explosive offensive club spearheaded by the Marbury-Francis backcourt.

“Steve and I have a really good feel for each other now,” Marbury told The Post. “We both want each other to do well, which no one knows.”

During the summer, Francis did his backcourt mate a favor by filming an extended interview for a TV talk show Marbury’s shopping. In the preseason opener, Francis, in a show of sneaker solidarity, wore Marbury’s “Starbury Ones.” Francis clearly is making an effort to be Marbury’s buddy.

Often compared by their playing styles, Marbury says the 29-year-olds are being propelled by the same forces.

“We are trying to really win a championship,” Marbury said. “Our whole lives we wanted something, and that one thing was to make it to the NBA. Now that’s done. It has to be something else. And the “chip” is the only thing left to do in basketball. We have everything that we want as far as money. So now you have to have something else to push you.”

The moment Francis arrived from Orlando in a trade last February, Marbury immediately lobbied for the Knicks to be a “run and gun” team. Incensed at Marbury’s public plea, former coach Larry Brown slowed the offense further, making Marbury look over to the sidelines to get the play every time he crossed midcourt.

New coach Isiah Thomas’ free-wheeling, react-and-read offense could not be more opposite Brown’s philosophy.

“The offense is conducive to the way [Francis and Marbury] like to play,” Thomas said. “We want to play an up-tempo game, we want to put those guys in positions where they can be very effective. [Friday] they were extremely effective. They can spread the floor, they can get to the basket. They’re a tough combination to guard when they’re on top of their game.”

Although Marbury and Francis each had six assists, they also committed five turnovers, as they still are adapting to the quick speed. Francis and Marbury played three of the six preseason games as a tandem; Francis missed two games with injury and Marbury rested his foot in another.

“It’s more of an open motion, where all five guys are going to get a chance to contribute,” said David Lee, who has outplayed Channing Frye at power forward.

Marbury and Francis can’t do it alone. Marbury knows they will need Eddy Curry to turn into an angry beast in the paint, play with the “manliness” Thomas proclaimed last week. But the dynamic backcourt – with Jamal Crawford and Nate Robinson off the bench – is the Knicks’ strength, no doubt.

“This is going to be way better than last year,” Robinson said. “We’re going to have a lot more fun.”

aburd indeed... Kevin Love jacks 3s, steals rebounds from his teammates and plays on 30 win teams and cant even spell defense, but yea.. he's ahead of Melo.

Be entertaining and funny. This site has been overrun by donkees (its a music band like the monkees, but all their songs just go heehaw heehaw). They either want to collect the cheese off Melo's jock for the smithsonian or they want him ass-phucked by a firearm Qaddafi style. There is little in between. Im trying to start a new movement. Its called judge him on what he does. Last I checked it was 54 wins, 3rd in MVP and finally past the first round. It was a good step forward.
