Knicks · What we learned from game two (page 1)

Woodson is still learning who to play during different swings in a game.

Iman Shumpert should have guarded Rose on the last play of the game along with Tourre Murray in for defensive purposes.

Melo should have been a decoy by driving and dishing to a wide open wing player.

I don't like the coaches philosophy, I still think he's holding this team back that's why he hasn't been offered an extension yet.

Erniecat @ 11/1/2013 6:23 AM
I can't argue with you, Playa. It's been only two games, but it looks to me like the ingredients are pretty much there. Right now, my biggest concern is Woodson. I am just not so sure he is the coach to mix the ingredients the right way and maximize this team's potential. I hope he is the guy, for obvious reasons, but I am far from confident. And I'm not talking about the regular season. I am talking about the playoffs. Can Woodson lead this team deep into the postseason? Not so sure.

Shump was guarding rose but got picked by Boozer. Felton actually deserves major credit for his hustle. He was actually guarding Deng, who threw the ball into Butler, but saw Rose running free and hustle over to contest. I like Murry but I don't trust him.

Bargs is the softest big man I have ever seen
babyKnicks @ 11/1/2013 7:32 AM
Love our team by the way. That was chicagos home opener after getting blasted by the heat. This was our second of a back to back. We are gonna be good this year!

Bargs has discovered his stroke.
Defense is good. Hardaway jr looks good.

Still missing jr a major major piece to our puzzle.

The Knick just did pick up his option, so essentially they did extend him.

With Bargs on the court this season the Knicks are -20 in 42 minutes.

We can't have Felton go down for a significant amount od time. he is the engine that makes the team go.

To improve the team going 4ward in the year--I think we'll need an upgrade in back up PG. If Felton goes down--I dont trust Prigioni or Udirih to run the ship like Kidd could--not even close with this team. I know Prigs did it for a few games last year--but different team. Obviously this is down the road and just speculation/prognostication right now. But that is a weak point--could we beat these teams without Felton--not on a regular basis. I thought Bargs will find his niche here--you could see snippets of what he can do last night. I think we have a better team than Chicago--I do not believe they are ahead of us.

franco12 @ 11/1/2013 8:09 AM
you don't win games shooting 36% from the field.

This team is a jump shooting team, and I don't see that changing or getting us far this year- prepare for 40-45 wins at best. Dolan will be disappointed and Woodson will likely be fired in the off season. Carmelo will opt out and get a max extension and mediocrity will reign at the garden for the next 3 seasons if we're lucky.

Good post--that was another point I thought of as well--points in the paint. We dont have a low post player except Amare. Chandler gets a few points on dunks but hes not an interior in/out threat.

gunsnewing @ 11/1/2013 8:54 AM
I complained last year about the predictability during the closing seconds. Even Jordan knew when to dish it. Melo becomes a lot more effective as a closer if he keeps the defense on their toes guessing.

Woodson is a moron.

Swishfm3 @ 11/1/2013 9:36 AM
Pablo had his lunch taken by Kirk...If Felton goes down, we may have a problem

2 games and, I believe, Melo has clocked in 38 and 42 min

IronWillGiroud @ 11/1/2013 9:44 AM
i learned that we have a fun bunch and they make me happy to watch,
Sangfroid @ 11/1/2013 9:48 AM
Ike Diogu would be a good pick up right now. Very few points scored down low, or with tough put backs. This is really a jump shooting team, with limited rebounding. Hopefully, JR comes back with a hunger.

Yeah, and we won by 7 and lost by one. Made some nice passes to the wings.

Lighten up, he hit 4 in a row last night. Give the boy some time before battering him with stats.

MSG3 @ 11/1/2013 10:29 AM
Let me get this off my chest....Woodson put on a bad coaching clinic last night. Not to run any sets in the last 3 minutes of a game that you were up 2 is bad. They kept going ISO. At least attempt to run a play. A:LKSJD:LAKSJFD.......Melo's final shot didn't bother me. Wasn't a bad look 1 on 1. I would've liked him to drive, but he'd be getting shit either way unless he made the shot. He didn't shoot well, but he brought it defensively.

All that being said, our main problem right now is turnovers and bad offense in general. In the second half they really took care of the ball and erased the deficit. It is so so so important for this team to not commit turnovers. Last year I believe our low turnovers and 3pt shooting got us to 54 wins. Nothing was more important. Offense will come though. I think Felton and Pablo need to start. I was cool with trying out the Bargnani lineup, but it's just not as good as the 2 PG lineup. And that's not to say I don't like Bargnani. He showed signs in the 2nd half. But that's the role he needs to play. Mid range and post scoring off the bench.

Defensively, we can't ask for anything better. We also can't ask for it to be sustained all season. Tyson has been incredible through 2 games. But these kind of performances night after night lead to injury without help. Aldrich is going to need to play minutes if STAT can't come in and at least be average on D. To be honest, I wouldn't mind STAT only playing 5-10 minutes per game in closer ones and letting him find his game again in blowouts. As much flak as Bargs gets for his defense, he's actually not a bad post defender.

So, to summarize, I'm pretty confident the offense will come. Defense needs to stick around. As much as I dislike JR, he would've helped last night and will go a long way in helping the offense regain form. Start the 2 PG lineup Woody!!

Bargs is a huge liability and weak point of this team.
No wonger Grun was fired. This trade was the worst thing after Eddy Curry/Jerome James and I think both this guys were more usefull than Bargs is.
What a waste of space and time.

Jr is the key ?

Remember last season when he began to penetrate to the hole by taking guys off the dribble ?

We need the threat of making defenders be at the mercy of guys who can shoot the 3 or drive to the basket, just like Bargiani showed last night.

We will be ok , but I don't trust Mike Woodson, I found that out last year in the playoffs.

This is a pretty strange opinion that many people have. What you lose in the trade is spacing that Novak provided when he was actually shooting well. The Knicks lost nothing else (besides late picks, and I respect peoples opinion on the value, i just disagree). I'm not going to call this a failure after 2 games. Let's not forget Bargnani hit some huge shots in the 3rd to keep us in it.
