If Melo bought in he would still have gotten about 15-18 shots a game. But, Melo want 20 shots, which is the problem.
doug collins made an observation opening night that the paradigm for success is to have three players who are all playmakers. the problem with stoudemire and anthony and bargnani is that none of them are playmakers and so having a guy who is good at getting others involved like lin does is a waste. we saw that first hand when he was here and next thing you know he and his "ridiculous contract" were out of here.
I think Lin would have been matched if it weren't for the poison pill, same as Asik for Chicago. I thought his contract was ridiculous, you didn't? You thought Lin was out cause of Melo?
Lots of teams sign, don't sign, match or dont for financial reason. Just look at Harden too.
Would have accepted that if the Woody and Dolan did not say that would match up to a billion dollars. Plus, we were not in the same boat as Chicago. It would not have mattered for the length of the contract. We were capped anyways.
I don't understand what you are saying, re Chicago.
Chicago had their own Lin situation that Summer with Asik.
Yup. Plus Morey has been on record that he thought he poison pill was only going to work with Chicago. He actually thought we would match and it was just a long shot.
I brought up the Chicago Asik example as another organization that thought the poison pill would be too much.
So.... you are agreeing with me? Why did you say that we are not in the same boat as Chicago? Same over the cap (even more so, so the luxury tax would be WAAAAYYY more), same poison pill.
Contract was ridiculous to Chicago but not to us. It would have affected their cap situation dramatically. It would not have affected our cap situation at all.
I beg to differ. The luxury tax would have been like $25M EXTRA or something as ridiculous for NY if they kept Lin. Luxury tax much smaller for Chicago for same poison pill.
You think Lin is happy in Houston? I think he would have preferred to stay a Knick if the other variables were similar. We think that we know what Lin is capable of, and the FACT is that we don't. And if you don't know, and you need a PG who is active and a playmaker and gets the team some easy buckets, well you don't let him walk. Money is only an excuse with the bad contracts that have come after. Sometimes it's the most manly thing to do to admit wrong.

But we're paying more in luxury tax for Bargnani.

I dont read it that way. Bargs contract would have been off-set in part by Camby, Novak. Lin would have been an additional ~$10M on top of Bargs.
IronWillGiroud wrote:NumberTwoPencil wrote:"Lin is the TRUTH"I dunno about that but he's an interesting, fairly solid, mid-level guard. Perhaps about the same right now as Charlie Ward on a good year.(Not saying they are similar player just that Ward was mid-level PG and, for now, so is Lin. Maybe he'll get better, who knows?)
Good trolling,
because you couldn't have just compared Jeremy Lin to Charlie Ward on a good year.
Jeremy Lin can be a future top 5 pg in the NBA. I'd like to see him with D'antoni's Lakers.
LOL top 5 PG? could of said 10 and I could of let it go even though I dont think he is even Top 15, but 5 never
Two seasons in and Lin looks silly as hell wearing a Rockets Jersey. He looks far better driving to the hoop in a Knicks Jersey. There's nothing else like New York cool, man. Going from Knicks to Rockets is like going from Kate Upton to Rosie O' Donnell.

martin--the knicks spent how much money installing those bridges? it came from the same pockets that were paying Lin money is an excuse the guy doesnt care about money hes got 5 bilion
Everyone agrees that the key to the Knicks success is getting Melo help. Right now the roster lacks that 2nd gun. Unless you consider Hot and cold JR to be that player
It sucks that we have to dream about cp3, rondo and Kyrie when we had our own young stud pg to develop and let him walk because Dolan got emotional. Not saying Lin will ever be those guys but he is a huge upgrade over what we have now
gunsnewing wrote:And as far as the argument that Melo could not coexist with Lin. Well IMO it was up to the coach to make it work. The 3 of them Lin Melo and Amare played well and were 6-1. You can't say Melo needs help and then when he has help say that he can't coexist with another scorer.Everyone agrees that the key to the Knicks success is getting Melo help. Really? I'd say the key is moving in a completely different direction where we build around effective, versatile players.

I grew up in NY, I have NY tat on my body, I love NY, but this thinking that people only want to be in NY is odd.. Houston is a cool place.. No state taxes, nice houses, Huge asian community. I think LIn wanted to stay in NY, but he looks happy in Houston. I have family there, not a bad place at all, and on top of that, these guys are rich, when you have that kind of money you can live anywhere.. so playing in Houston will not stop lin from living and enjoying NY.. he is in a great situation there and closer to winning a chip than he is in NY under this moronic ownership...
I am sorry, but going to the rockets was a huge upgrade... Knicks have work to do, a lot of it, to be come a desired team to play for again.. I hope we get there.. just don't see that happening real soon..

hey, in that context you are absolutely right.

I agree. As much as I love this City, If I was a professional athlete, I don't think I would want to play NY. Why deal with all that bullsh1t?
Plus…Blame Melo and Dolan all you want but I don't believe Lin wanted to play in NY anyway.

I think dolan and carmelo may have played a factor, they certainly didn't make him feel welcome. in the end, i think lin is where he wants to be. Houston is a not a bad place at all.
NY just can't say we are NY come play here.. not anymore.. Nah, not today. My son has a friend from HS that plays for the eagles, he loves GA, it is his home, but he plays in philly and he comes home every chance he gets, especially in the offseason.. When you are rich, you can live where you want.. heck I think steve nash has a place in NY..
The knicks can be a desired destination again, but it is going to take a major culture change, from top to bottom....walsh wasn't perfect, but he was bring a level of respectability back to this franchise.. making it a place where people want to play.. now it seems like the isiah era all over again.. smh..
Can't believe we let the guy walk, this stings, this one really hurts,
We miss you Jeremy Lin
