The whole thing with STAT is building him back up to a functional level again---and that takes time. We'll probably never see the high wire stuff anymore and that's OK -- the 14-15 ppg at 58% FGs that we saw last year before he went down would be great. Get STAT back to the point where he's scoring a few buckets in a row, feeling good, showing much better quickness/decisiveness/assertiveness and helping the team again...Hopefully we get him to the point where he starts showing everyone the 'spoon feed me the ball' gesture once again. You guys remember that? Where was that -- in Cleveland, Phily maybe?? Tell me that didn't get everyone pumped! We sure could use that version of Amar'e again! I'll take it. I think he can get back there...Hey man, did Antonio McDyess eventually recover from his knee problem to have several very productive years for Detroit after the Knicks? Yes he did...I mean we thought the guy was cooked here -- Antonio McKnee, right? Turns out he wasn't cooked....At this point STAT's still a better player than the stripped down version of McDyess Detroit had -- last year's production before the injury is the indicator...Don't throw the towel in on STAT yet.

i wouldve agreed with you BEFORE he had the offseason surgery over the summer

I think that would crush him. I have to go with the consensus. Throw him in to the deep end of the pool. Let him get regular minutes, and see if he can pull it out. I'm sure these couple of games have been an eye opener for him.

Dude just got 5 TOs in 11 minutes - and could have been 6 and I don't think this was an aberration - and you want him to play MORE minutes?

Knixkik @ 11/7/2013 10:18 AM
Bottom line is people are quick to blame Melo and how a team built around him can't be a contender, but you can't have 20 million in salary tied to a player like amare and expect to build a contender with the rest of the cap space. Amare will hold this team back until his salary is off the books.

Call me an optimist. The frustration that we say in his face has already turned to anger. It's play or go home time for STAT. I bet he's reading the articles and hearing the whispers, no, the boos. Let's see if he rises to the occasion. If not, get Ike Diogu on the phone, fast.

Amare showed so much potential that first year. I guess in the end, DLee was the better move.

what's the point of sending him to the D-league if he can't play or practice because of minute restrictions ? As long as he can't play on a regular basis there is no way he will get into a rhythm. Then I don't know if he will be able to sustain a high level of play like last year and on top of that stay healthy.... but who knows, I hope for the best

Contrarily to the latest Barkley's comments on ESPN (Amar'e is done and have lost his talent), I'm pretty sure he has lost a lot of his athleticism and he is very rusty, but not his talent during the past summer. 6 months ago he was one of the most efficient player in the NBA, and now after a very large sample of 2 games played and about 20 minutes we can conclude that he has lost his talent ... yeah that makes so much sense ! Thank you Charles for the clever inputs !

Of course if he can't play more than one game out of 3 and only 10 minutes for the full season, we will never know if he has lost his talent or if the injuries prevent him to show for it which will be the same in terms of results for the team.

If he can play without minute restriction in the D-league (and get hurt there, there is no interest), I prefer for him to play for the Knicks in real games when ready (on a minute basis which can allow him to get a rhythm) and practice with the team in the meantime.

the minute restriction is killing any chance for him to get into a groove. Add to that the lost of athleticism and the lack of practice for the past summer, this is quite difficult to expect him to play like an all star. There are not many options : either we give him more minutes and he gets into a groove, and hopefully he doesn't get hurt, either we keep him inactive on the roster for the full year. These 10 minutes per game every 3 games are not working and are killing him and the team ...

I am one of the biggest amare fans there are.. have been since he was in HS... but Honestly, if I were Dolan I would so something unprecedented.. I would refuse to pay him the 23 mil he is owed next year.. I mean for christ sakes.. really? we owe him 23 mil? I would tell amare to sue me...LOL

Nice comic dream, but Eddy Curry and his 21 million for 2 minutes called to say hello. And given the Knicks courtroom history, Dole-in would end up probably paying twice that in legal fees.

And wind up giving up some draft picks in compensation.

franco12 @ 11/7/2013 10:42 AM
how much of this minute restriction is coming from the medical staff, and how much is coming from Woodson? Is he the one who decided to go the play every other day route?

I thought he was rehabbing from surgery/injury? Does he look this bad because he is still coming back, or is this what we will see forever?

I still think he can improve - and get back to a decent level of play.

sealy @ 11/7/2013 10:46 AM
What I don't understand is why he hasn't come to terms with the fact that he has very little lift (how many times did he get stuffed in 10 min?) and needs to focus less on his Olajuwon post moves and more on hitting the open jumpers.

We all know he can knock them down, so I just don't get it. It's tough to watch and I feel for him to a degree, but he needs to recognize his limits already.

LOL

could you imagine that.. instead of 23 mil, we would owe amare that plus damages totaling 50 mil. Lose picks past 2017, and as punishment we have to sign chris smith to an extension... rofl..

GustavBahler @ 11/7/2013 10:52 AM
Would be the right thing to do IMO to ask Amar'e first what he wants considering its his bad knees on the line. Can't imagine what they will be like when he's 40. If we trade for a big off the bench who produces, then I would put Stat on ice until the playoffs. Let him rehab the rest of the season and then bring him back for the last few games of the regular season to shake off the rust.

Lets see how he plays over the next couple of games. I doubt the last game sat well with Stat either.

Amare didn't play ANY bball or do any bball related activity all summer- he's going to look awful for a while. Last time this happened was the lockout season and he looked rusty for a month. He's looked terrible, but I'm going to be fair and give him a month or so.
knicks1248 @ 11/7/2013 1:01 PM
For once I kind of agree with Barkley, Amare is a player that relied so much on his talent, the mental approach was never a key attribute..Now that he has lost most of his athleticism, he's struggling mightly..I'm sure part of it is rhythm, but he's just useless if he's not scoring and getting to the line.

He adjusted great last season. Watching him, it does just look like rust- losing the ball, dribbling off his foot etc- that's not linked to athleticism it's just straight out rust.

IronWillGiroud @ 11/7/2013 1:04 PM
You can't just throw the guy out there to crash and burn like toast
