Knicks · Who would be available and attainable, and put up with Dolan to coach the Knicks (if Woodson is let go/fired)? (page 2)

Thanks for keeping on topic.

There are a number of good coaches available given the surge in new coaches and the inexplicable firing of many.

George Karl - though history with Melo won't work
Vinny Del Negro - Not the right fit
Jeff Van Gundy - not looking to coach, but I would LOVE to have him back
Stan Van Gundy - no one wants him after he was punked by Howard.
D'Antoni - who you mentioned - won't happen. No one wants him now, and he won't come back. He was quit/fired, that's the worst.
Byron Scott - I'm not down on him, hasn't had a good team to work with since NJ years - 2 finals appearances then.
Lionel Hollins - best option - worked well with limited roster in Memphis, would be able to extract solid team play out of this roster in my opinion. Very surprised he doesn't have a job. Guess it's the price tag.
Scott Skiles - gritty old-school coach, never overly impressed but found some success. Would be a good half-year fall guy.

Thanks for answering my question - I prefer hard-nosed coaches (Skiles, Sloans, etc) but can't seem them working for a man like Dolan. So we need someone that can smooze with Dolan and light a fire under the players when needed. From your list, I guess I'd be interested in L.Hollins, B.Scott or S.Van Gundy. Again, I realize Woodson is a small piece in this problem equation, but we will probably have a new coach sometime this season...

no coach with any scruples or content of character is going to come here to work for dolan. if dolan fires woodson then he will have reached a tipping point in the nba.

dolan is a toxic, malignant billionaire.

Yea, bottom line, if Woodson gets the axe (don't think this will happen), no decent coach will come work for Dolan and inherit this team. Just won't happen. It's clear he likes Herb Williams, guess he would have to gut it out a while until they find another victim. He did it in the past, twice.

My guess is that Carlesimo might be a target. He was a good company man after being let go by the Nets. That's what Dolan is looking for, and he is a pretty good coach. I believe Sloan will be a target because Dolan acts like he wants to give the team a swift kick in the arse, and Sloan will do that daily.

Scott Skiles is the guy I would go after and if not him then Vinny Del Negro.

I think you hire Skiles when you already have a serious contender ready and waiting because he burns through a team in short order.

Not who I was thinking of. Think a little further back.... Think "available"...

If it's who I just thought of, I'm not writing the name, because if I do I will go run into oncoming traffic on the GWB.

Here is the catch, its all about Melo.

Team has to sell a rebuild to him and remind him the money will be better. A coach has to be approaved by Melo.

Your giving Melo to much credit. It's all about the money and Woody is his coach. Why would Melo want a change Woody is giving him free reign to do whatever he wants.
