Knicks · Felton's D (page 1)

meloanyk @ 11/13/2013 9:27 PM
Teague is just blowing by him with simple hesitation. Felton is a NBA pg but his D exaggerates all our D weaknesses. Position needs to be upgraded and I would rather use Shump PLUS deal for one rather than get a one dimensional player like Faried
meloanyk @ 11/13/2013 9:44 PM
OR just experiment with a BIG lineup for a change. You want to get Shump involved and motivated? Then put him at pg and tell him to defend and distribute. He may not be a natural or a great ball handler but Smith and Melo can help. Dont give up on him just because we are deep at two and three. Start Shumpert, Smith, Artest. Melo and Bargani or Alrich instead of Artest. Watching Teague go whereevr he wants has changed this game
Allanfan20 @ 11/13/2013 10:38 PM
The fact people compare him to a pit bull is offensive to pit bulls everywhere. His defense is not good.

And why does he have to come up limping at least once a game with that "I just smelled some nasty ish" face? Just saying.

He's without a doubt the worst starting PG in the game. I could actually think of several backups that I'd take ahead of him (e.g. Darren Collision, Grevis Vasquez, Mo Williams, Luke Ridnour, Norris Cole, Reggie Jackson, etc.). He's the real achilles heal of this team.

When I first read this I was appalled, but then I thought about it for a few minutes and realized the only teams with a worse starting PG are probably Milwaukee with Knight and Miami with Chalmers (but they don't really need one anyways), then it's a push in my mind with Kemba Walker and Jameer Nelson, so the best Felton is is the 25th best starting PG in the game, and you're right, I'd rather have Vasquez or Cole or Jackson (not Collison or Ridnour, and not Williams because he plays like a poor man's Starbury).

Oh Damn, not only is Felton the weak link if he doesn't step it up, but no one will want him either.

I still stand by my statement. Personally, I'd take all 29 starting PG's ahead of Felton because at the very least, they have two or more skills they can do particularly well. For instance, Mario Chalmers is one of the best 3 point shooters in the league and plays excellent defense. Luke Ridnour is also one of the better shooters in the league and is still pretty good at finding players for easy looks. What is it that Felton does well? The only thing you really could say is that he does a decent job at taking care of the ball but what is the point of this if he doesn't make his being on the floor worthwild?

Well, I'll go on Felton defense. You're right, he protects the ball, he can get hot and finishes some great drives to the hoop, has hit clutch 3's and runners, and has made major defensive plays down the stretch in games when we needed them. With Chandler (and I have to imagine any other big body with dunking ability from evidence with Stat when they first started here together in 2011) he is great on the pick and roll lob. We loved that ish last year, we ate it up. His interior passing is pretty good too, especially passing around defenders. Problem is, the guys he's passing too the majority of the time, Melo, Stat, KMart, Chandler as the biggest culprit, and now Bargnani, can't handle the passes or don't have the coordination and body sense to know to be ready for it if it comes. I can't tell you the number of good passes down low have clanged off the hands of these guys from Felton. Then Felton says "my bad" when it isn't his fault. There it is. The defense rests.

He is adequate but replaceable. At least he is always paling with hart.
This deserves kudos by itself. He needs a good PG coach... not Woody to over-perform.
And Woody need Kidd-like PG to win games. He is clueless on offense. Felton will not help him with this.

arkrud, on a total sidenote, can we talk about your grammar for a minute? Are your misspelled words and choppy sentences there for comedic effect of some kind? Do you drop tranquilizers before typing here? Or is there another legitimate reason for this? English as a second language maybe? (This last one is not a dickhead comment, even if it seems like one)

I wish we had a really good PG on the team. That could put us over the top.
Do we have the pieces to get Lin, Dragic, or anyone in that class?
It would take Shump & ? (Sort of ironic, don't ya think?)

Just out of curiosity, what would posters prefer:

a great passing PG who can't defend

or

An average to poor ish passer who can lock down opposing PG's?

Basically what do people think is the perfect PG for this team? A Rubio type? Rondo?

gunsnewing @ 11/14/2013 12:23 PM
Teague blew by Felton last year. Nothing has changed except Felton keeps getting older and slower. He still has terrible PG instincts and is eractic from the perimeter

Speaking of awful defense, has anyone seen this Harden video- the worst defense I've seen outside of a Knicks game in quite some time! I hope he plays some of it tonight!:

Terrible! He even ends up clapping to himself instead of paying attention to the player he's meant to be guarding, who by that point at the other side of the court!

we need a ball mover and a floor general. Someone who can run this ship. Rubio would be great. Jose Calderon type would be nice, just someone better.

At this point, Felton does nothing well. Inconsistent scorer, poor playmaker, has a big game one of out every three to balance his stats in convincing folks hes good.

We need someone who can keep opposing point guards out the lane. You can live with a starting lineup of defensive stragglers if you're solid at PG and center. Woody's defensive strategy wouldn't be that bad if the opposing team's point guard didn't look like Moses every time down the lane.

If Shuumpert keeps rackin up assists, we should slide him over to the PG spot and let Felton come off the bench with the second unit. Maybe we gave up too soon on Shump at the PG experiment. If the PG spot gave 7 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds and lock down D each game, I'm sure you could live with that. We need a different player at SF. Any suggestions?
