Its still early, but after watching the nets tonight, they got blown out by the 1-5 Kings.
garnett looks god awful, he is a 6 11 jump shooter, thats shooting 30% on the season
jason kidd lets lawrence frank run his huttle, he's hardly ever engaged, if i didn't know better i would think kidd was an injured player in st cloths..
It's almost assinine to play d will, pp , jj, kg, and lopez and have minimal to no scoring off the bench, definitely no perimeter players on the bench other then wash up terry..
Dwill seems to be a step ahead of his entire team (except lopez)
This team is slower then the knicks and thats brutal..
I know we have our own issues, but we also have a lot of outside drama to blame..
KG and PP were done last season, JJ and Dwill have no chemistry
how could anybody think the nets were even close to being contenders
Nets are the media darlings and as usual the media gets all excited by the big names without much real examination of the roster and how it all would work. Nets could put it all together and still not be a final 4 team as many have them pegged. The Knicks don't have the sexy names but I have more faith in the Knicks prospects than I do the Nets. The Knicks were playing without their 2nd leading scorer and adding in a new guy in Bargs, who wasn't able to workout due to pneumonia. The Nets came in all Kocky and bragging. It's going to be interesting to see how both teams develop the rest of this season.
KG, PP were WAY too important to the success of the Nets. I think too many people thought they could just show up and just add a little here and there rather than have to carry the action. KG and PP aren't able to carry the action anymore so if the rest of the Nets don't step up I felt that the Nets might have some issues when KG and PP were feeling their age and didn't have it.
I really questioned what they would do, due to their age and lack of bench. Well, it is pretty clear now.
They "might be" a playoff team, but they certainly won't be a regular season team.
The Nets are basically a "Once last breath" team. There only chance is in the playoffs and that is a big IF as I don't see them staying healthy (no bench.)
This regular season is gonna be a survival of the fittest type year. It's gonna be a grind with so much more talent in the East and teams looking to establish themselves. The weak will not survive and weaknesses will be exposed. I'm not sure how the Nets will handle this grind of a season. Teams will be looking to play their best facing the Nets who were media darlings.
I have always felt that the Nets were going to start off strong (or at least they'd have to) and then due to age start to play .500 after the allstar break. I was wrong! We as Knicks fans have seen an old team start strong and then age and injury start catching up to us. To me, in order for the Nets to have accomplished what some of the talking heads said they would, they would have had to give themselves a good start and a good enough lead to be able to fight off age and "past prime-ness" later in the season.
We saw in the playoffs that Pierce is NOT the Pierce of years past. It is clear that KG is no longer "KG" although he is a good leader and a great presence. But he is already frustrated. I have said it a zillion times....DERON WILLIAMS IS NOT A LEADER! He is a really good scorer and gets his stats but he reminds me of Marbury. Even down to the sulking. That leaves Joe Johnson. I have never been a fan but of course he is solid. Terry is aging as well. Their role players are ok but they will NOT carry them through 82 games of overachieving.
Then there is their rookie coach. I have NEVER felt it was a good idea to bring in players who have to win NOW and meanwhile bring in a rookie coach who still has to learn. Recipe for disaster. Oh yeah, and I have always felt that the way to beat them is to run on their old asses. I know WE have issues, but if those cats aren't careful they will be this season's 2012-13 Lakers.
It's a tight battle for the basement of the Atlantic!
Chemistry is the issue. Figuring out how to distribute the ball. It's going to take time. They have a lot of games left. Counting the. Out based on their age is wrong. They are champions. They'll figure it out. Boston always started slow
Persoally i never thought the nets were gonna be as good as the media prtrayed them to be. They will still be a playoff team but i think age and injuries will do them in. However as knick fans we shoulsnt brag. Its not like we havent been too good either. So far out 2 wins have been from struggling teams. We still play zero defense for the most part. So right now bith the knicks and te nets arent too good
3-4 vs 2-5 and we got guys calling it already?
After a big win against the ATL we the shyt now and calling out others!
hahaha, love this place, you really start to appreciate the rhythm after a while
Missing in all this brilliant banter is the fact that everyone ignores the thread title in defending the black/blue and white.
The Kings. The Return of Bleary Eyes running the team while Coach in Training listens and learns. Maybe the Russian gets talked into rehiring Avery and PJ and then Jason can hand out drinks during the games?
Can I ask if anything is better and more entertaining than listening to team spokesman Brittany Lopez mumbling after every loss?
We are better right now. Gloat gloat gloat. Sort of like how JLin is better than any NY PG. Right this minute.
Tell me another stellar hoop story, Uncle Charlie...

And for that they sacrificed the next 5 years!

So true- they have been for years. Even back in the Lebron sweepstakes, they were saying the Nets had a better chance, that they had awesome young talent like 30 year old Devin Harris! They have played worse than us every year, yet they still get more praise. This summer they traded away what was left of their draft picks for the next 20 years, went way way over the cap, got a massive luxury tax bill for aging past it big names. All shit we've been blasted for in the past, but for some reason the Nets got nothing but praise "oooh! their big strong owner doesnt fear the luxury tax! It shows how much he wants to win!". The way they rave about that robot owner with the bad hair cut, is like the way school girls rave about Justin Bieber.
Oh boy, send in the clowns. Nets defenders know no bounds boy I tell ya. The Knicks 3-4 record does not change the fact that many picked the Nets to be division champs. Whether they will be that or not remains to be seen. But a Knick 3-4 record does not change the fact that the Nets not only have the highest payroll in the NBA right now but they have the highest payroll in NBA HISTORY. 2-5 and getting blown out in almost every game for a team with such a situation is noteworthy. But I'm sure for some, it becomes an uncomfortable topic. A topic that should be off limits for Knick fans to discuss. It is what it is. But guess what....Knicks fans are not the only people talking about this Nets 2-5 start. Those guys must avoid being the 2013-14 version of last year's Lakers. Not the Knicks. As a matter of fact, most people said the Knicks would have a much worse season than last year dropping almost 20 games more than last year. Expectations for this Knicks team has been low. Expectations for this Nets team is sky high. And the highest salary in NBA history doesn't make it any better for them.

With all that they are trying to do, the stress and pressure must be very heavy. Billy King and Kidd got big stones to take on what they did. Many will revel in their failure if they do.
Knick success is the only thing that matters in my book. Denver not doing well, Lin, or the nets seems to inflate the knick fan at times but that don't play with me.

What i'm taking note of is that the Nets players were Kocky and not indicating any pressure on them. They were confident that they'd dominate. The Media was confident that they'd dominate and that the Knicks would be down behind them. This happened last year too. So sure the Knicks have not gotten off to a good start but they aren't as bad as the Nets who have no excuses.

I haven't watched the Nets much but I have noticed this also. When I watched I don't believe Kidd even spoke in the huddle and it was in the last minute of the fourth quarter when they were in a very close game. It certainly is concerning. I think there are many coaches that rely on their assistants but they still are the voice in the huddle.

Papabear Says
No!! It's that New York night life.
This ain't Boston this is New York. I hope that Kidd ain't drinking or Maybe they all are drinking. New York is the hardest town to survive in. That's why I give Melo credit. He came.
Looking at the box score of their last game, it says that Deron took more shots than anyone, including Joe Johnson. I don't know if that's typical. If it is, Deron should make it his mission to get everyone else going and sacrifice some touches. I doubt this is sustainable with his injury problems anyway, and I'm guessing its going to PO Garnett/Pierce eventually.
No matter what happens, I'm guessing its a matter of time before Pierce and Garnett remind teammates who has a ring, and who doesn't.
the problem I have with all the predictions for the NETS is this. kG and PP have been on a steady decline over the last 2 seasons, KG was pretty bad all last season when the celtics got off to a horrible start with rondo, it was the emergence of Jeff Green that made that team respectable after rondo went down.
JJ is slightly above avg, and Dwill plays hard 50% of the time, lopez is soft, real soft. In a league where the 3 ball is absolutely key, they don't have one player coming off the bench that can remotely shoot a 3 with any consistency.
It wasn't Grunwald, or woody, or melo, or tyson that got kidd to play for the knicks last season, IT was KIDDS closes friend D Will. The opportunity to be part of the NETS organization was already lighty talk about...Go figure
Aside from all of this, you have a rookie coach, and a bad assitant coach who's only success was with the nets and kidd in his super prime era.
And finally, both the nets and celtics had poor performances in the playoffs mostly from the guys that they decided to put together...none of the starters will make a sacrifice to come off the bench to make the roster more balance.
I'm not picking on the Nets because were 1 game ahead of them, I'm pointing out what I saw the day of the trade, and I kept finding it hard to believe that people made these predictions base on Names not skills
