I hate to get preachy, but I have to.
This is why I get so annoyed by these types of threads.

Next 2 years -
Shumpert's Salary: Roughly 4.3 Mil after knicks picked up his option
Asik's Salary: Roughly 20 Mil

The only place this trade could happen is in fantasy land. The Rockets would have to take Amare or Chandler as well, and would involve more guys and possibly more teams. This stuff is not happening. Someone will land Asik by midseason and drastically improve their front court D, but it won't be the Knicks unless they go into full-on blow up mode.

I didn't say Asik because that's contractual overkill, but I wouldn't rely on KMART holding up. Chandler's out. And I value rebounding, which there's not a lot of even when everyone's healthy

You are correct about fans not taking into account salaries, caps and team finances. At the same time, Knicks could swing a trade this year because Asik only makes %5 before it jumps to $15. However ,Knicks would thus be further over the salary cap next year (even if Chandler were moved because his pay has to be matched by incoming talent unless it is expiring which is highly inlikely )and have to pay luxury tax which would be nutty as adding Asik would then cost them about $30 mil for next season. The backloaded "poison pill" is the main reason why they didnt match Lin's deal but at least they would have gotten two years of play from him before the onerous taxation. Asik trade is far fetched from many angles

We could use another big but that could have been added at a low cost last week with Amundsen but this Chris Smith charade is a hindrance. I hope they are waiting out for a better big like Humphries to be waived because every Knick fan should be enraged at this Smith fiasco. Probalbly the reason why Grunfeld was canned, he probably told Dolan he wouldnt support it. Anyway, we need a bigger pg guard if we arent going to trust Shumpert or Murray at the spot. The D there is hurting this team big time .Felton is a rusty gate, PP has quick hands but is just too small and gets overpowered and Beno isnt any better than either. Rather see them use Shumpert's trade value for that upgrade

if shumpert wasn't enough to get faried, it won't be close to enough to get asik...

I think you're assuming Bargs is a big because of a pretty good defensive game right? It's a bit of a stretch, and he moves back to the 4 when Chandler returns. Still need a backup C IMO. Jeremy Tyler hopefully, cheap and lots of fire.

Asik is unhappy and demanding a trade because he wants to start and can't in Houston because of Dwight. He wouldn't be happy with NY as he'd then be behind Tyson. Makes no sense.
