SJUknicksfan @ 11/14/2013 8:31 PM
How else would we get him?
playa2 @ 11/14/2013 8:55 PM

knicks1248 @ 11/14/2013 10:15 PM
was saying this the minute howard signed and he said he was un happy
meloanyk @ 11/14/2013 10:17 PM
He makes $15 mil next year. You arent paying him that to back up Chandler nor can you play them together given their offensive games. Houston cant and we wouldnt. So the other way we take on that salary is to move Chandler so whats the rationale

You make a very compelling argument.

I don't think you can play Chandler and Howard together either. What's the point?

nixluva @ 11/14/2013 11:29 PM
What do we care about the money. If they can make the deal it would help. Asik is a good Center.

Different situation Howard makes way more money and wants to be on the floor all the time. Chandler needs his minutes reduce.

Nalod @ 11/15/2013 7:42 AM
Asik makes more than Chandler. We need a back up center or board sweeping forward to put next to Bargs. Reggie Evans type, not too expensive. Denver can't trade Faried when McGee is hurt and out for a while.
gunsnewing @ 11/15/2013 7:43 AM
We need a PG

Does shump still have the upside? Is this who he is? Media says Knicks not high on him as much as rest of the league which means he has trade value. And risk he moves and becomes a "star".

The point is that Knicks would NOT be adding Asik who will make $15 mil next year to backup Chandler . The only sensible scenario for a Asik trade would be to move Chandler to a team other than Houston for a piece(s) better than they give up for Asik. I doubt Knicks have the ingenuity or balls but a argument could be made for those trades if it resulted in strengthening another spot. At center, Asik is arguably as good as Chandler defensively, good help defender and better than Chandler man to man D simply because he is bigger and stronger which would help agaisnt the Hibberts, Lopez and Petrovics. Asik is a better rebounder imo but isnt as good offensively as he doesnt convert like Chandler around the rim.

Bargs and Felton for Asik and Lin.

I hate to get preachy, but I have to.
This is why I get so annoyed by these types of threads.

Next 2 years -
Shumpert's Salary: Roughly 4.3 Mil after knicks picked up his option
Asik's Salary: Roughly 20 Mil

The only place this trade could happen is in fantasy land. The Rockets would have to take Amare or Chandler as well, and would involve more guys and possibly more teams. This stuff is not happening. Someone will land Asik by midseason and drastically improve their front court D, but it won't be the Knicks unless they go into full-on blow up mode.

Asik only makes $5 this year before jumping to $15 next year ( same poison pill contract as Lin) so a trade today is feasible if not rational from the angle of matching salaries which many seem to forget is a factor since Knicks are over salary cap and cant add salary.

I agree with the jist of your post which is why I would say the only reason to trade for Asik is if you knew you had a bird in hand to strengthen team by dealing Chandler at the same time. Otherwise adding him to Chandler makes little sense when we have bigger needs to fill. IMO, Bargani is most effective on both ends at the five but a big defensive power forward who can board is needed next to him. That pf has to also have a decent enough shot to keep defenses honest.
