Knicks · Who is the realistic and obtainable point guard that would fit the current system/Melo? (page 1)

jskinny35 @ 11/15/2013 12:30 AM
After tonight's game I agree with the board about the PG being the priority. I actually like Felton and respect his effort - just hate the limited penetration, ball movement and fact that we have to start another PG next to him. Time to get someone so we can start a regular SG next to the point.

I came up with the following as most desirable - Rondo (of course), J.Lin, Dragic, P. Beverly (cheap), I.Thomas (cheap), Bledsoe, McCollum (Port)

As for realistic/obtainable - Lin and Dragic seems the most possibly available - due to their team rosters

Given that - who would you go for given we have Felton, Shump, MWP, Prigs/Beno and Bargs as available. (I'd add JR and Chandler if necessary - but they're not going anywhere)

Love Bledsoe, Rondo and Beverly mostly - but don't think we have enough :(

My choices given our limitations - Dragic, I.Thomas or Lin

Who would your top 3 realistic targets be?

Papabear Says

Melo does not want Lin here. Point Blank

JohnStarksFan @ 11/15/2013 12:34 AM
Lin is too expensive is not coming back here. Dragic costs too much. Thomas isn't bad, but not a good fit here.
Just live with the 4+ we have. They aren't going anywhere.

Murry?

Anybody's guess at this point.

The really messed up part of this is that before the season Woody said Felton was a lock to start, sending the message he had COMPLETE faith in Felton's ability to run the team. Felton may still have some lingering hammy issues, I don't know, but whatever it is, he's really a huge problem. I can't imagine that a team out there is gonna trade any useful PG considering how scarce they are.

IMO the only options will be D League and developing Murry. I joke about FREE MURRY, but I really do like the kids talent. He's obviously not an NBA PG but I think his raw talent would help. He's long and quick and digs in on D. He's actually very slick offensively too. He's not a 3pt shooter, but he'll do fine enough in that dept as long as he helps improve the defense at the point. Felton is a turnstile!!! Poor Prigs gets trucked by bigger guards. Beno is a huge disappointment. WHY NOT give the kid a chance?

FREE MURRY!!!

Shumpert and Felton for Kemba Walker
NardDogNation @ 11/15/2013 2:55 AM
Kyle Lowry. The problem is that he also doubles as an expiring contract, which makes it difficult for us to field a competitive offer. I also really liked Tony Wroten in preseason but the cat's out of the bag on that one now. Them again, I think Toure Murry could do a lot of that for us if given a chance.

PG's aren't scarce if you've got the worst one in the league as a starter. By that definition, anyone else you get would technically be an upgrade. For better or worse, we're stuck with Felton's contract because of that fact.

nixluva @ 11/15/2013 3:57 AM
Hate to keep saying it, but just like when we had to resort to Lin, there aren't any good PG's that teams are willing to just hand us for the garbage we have to offer. This is why it was so important to me that we did sign Murry. He's like free talent. All Woody has to do is work with the kid and give him minutes to get his feet wet. He's gonna make some mistakes, but I think along with that he'll give you energy on D and we really need that. I think he's a better natural passer than Felton ALREADY. He just needs to be developed.

FREE MURRY!!!

yup. we also signed Prigs and Udrih. Dunno why they're not getting more minutes if Felton is hurt/underperforming.

if there's not that big of a dropoff between our 3 PGs why not platoon and let them go 100% hard for the minutes they are out there?

no rim protector. run run run

Dragic, Lowry, or Reggie Jackson. All of them are attainable at the likely cost of Shumpert and fillers.

Also, Stein says Knicks are taking to Sac, so i'm guessing either Vasquez or Thomas could be options.

What's happened to Lowry since he landed on the raptors- used to like him a lot, but he's been playing below par for a while now- is it injuries or just a decline?

He started real hot with the raptors last season before he got injured. I think he is out of rhythm from lingering injuries.

A group of 3/ 4's=12 which is better than 10!

casey castrated him trying to make him a more "jose" type pg. he's playing east/west and not attacking anymore.

Sucks- used to think he was great- I thought the Raps got a steal when they landed him

it's a trick question because unless carmelo becomes a better playmaker you are between two stools.

the paradigm seems to be morphing towards 3 playmaking wings/swingmen and two frontcourt players.

This is a good point. Melo & JR bring the ball up a ton of the time. But they don't see the floor like a good PG does so that's not a winning strategy. Only a few guys in the league who can do that out of their position.
