According to a source, Shumpert had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last July that the Knicks never reported. It is unclear if the unreported surgery could impact his trade value with the desperate Knicks trying to package Shumpert in a number of proposed deals, including one for Boston's Rajon Rondo.

Iman Shumpert had a second left knee operation over the summer, the Daily News has learned and it is unclear if the unreported surgery could impact his trade value with the desperate Knicks trying to package Shumpert in a number of proposed deals including one for Boston's Rajon Rondo.

According to a source, Shumpert had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee last July that the Knicks never reported. In September, the Daily News reported that Amar'e Stoudemire had knee surgery over the summer which the Knicks also elected not to make public.

Shumpert originally tore the ACL and meniscus in his left knee against the Miami Heat during Game 1 of the 2012 NBA Playoffs. Shumpert didn't return until Jan. 17, 2013 and has experienced soreness on several occasions, including the Knicks second round playoff series against Indiana. In October, Mike Woodson cryptically said that Shumpert "battled this summer with some of his injuries" and added that Shumpert did experience knee pain but left it at that.

Interesting. I wonder if that is why he left the summer league team after one game.
Clean @ 11/17/2013 6:57 PM
The Knicks are not smart. I know they are going into smear Shump mode but releasing knee surgery info is only going to lower his trade stock. I wonder how many 1st rounders we will give up to trade him now.

Perhaps the Knicks didnt release it, maybe one of the teams they talked to about a trade did.

Might've been Shumpert's people.

I can see Shumps people releasing it as a payback for the Knicks smear campaign.

I want to say that lots of players get minor surgery during summer and teams don't announce it. Standard practice. Not sure why article author makes a big deal of this.

It's pretty hard to look as bad the management of the NY Knicks.

Why is everything top secret with this organizatiom?
knicks1248 @ 11/17/2013 9:04 PM
This is Frank Isola stirring up bs..Shump left summer league to have the procedure done..
smackeddog @ 11/18/2013 3:30 AM
Isola has put out two contradictory stories:

a) Shump left summer league after one game for a pre booked publicity event, which made Dolan angry and want to trade him

b) Shump left summer league early because he needed anthroscopic knee surgery

Make up your mind Isola!

Bonn1997 @ 11/18/2013 6:06 AM
Maybe point (a) was the cover story and (b) is the true story.

It's a pretty low class move from a low class organization- your player needs surgery so you use that against them to make out they are lazy or have a poor attitude.

Article posted just today... interesting about HIPA being included.

One final aside: It continues to be misrepresented Iman Shumpert had his knee cleaned out in July. As reported by The Post, it was late August. He didn’t need crutches and did not have a limp.

Under HIPA laws, Shumpert insisted the Knicks did not announce the surgery because he was afraid it would be misconstrued as directly related to his earlier ACL surgery.
