Knicks · don't be seduced by bargs pretty moves... (page 1)

djsunyc @ 11/20/2013 11:52 AM
b/c he's still a major liability on the court.

team defense is atrocious when he's on the court and his +/- is just downright terrible.

you see a few stops man 2 man and think it's ok...but it's not. it's only a very small portion of total defense and those 1 on 1 opportunities are few and far between.

when bargs isn't playing, the knicks are around a bottom 10 defensive team. when he is, the knicks are around a bottom 5 defensive team of all time.

trading for him was not a smart move. (well smart for us and not for you). the smart move now would be to move him on as soon as you can b/c there is a better than decent chance the picks you end up trading will be much higher than anticipated.

try to parlay some positive press he's getting with some nationally televised games and cash in.

Wait a minute- we didn't get protection on that pick either?!

I kind of like how Bargs has looked so far, but I do wonder if he is somehow the main cause of our problems (those advanced stats Bonn posted before the season seemed to predict this based on his track record). I just can't figure out HOW he's doing it, but I do spend a lot of the game trying to find out what it is...

as a raptors fans..i need to ask you:

Why don't the Raptors punish teams with weak bigs by letting Jonas Valanciunas go to work? Would that not result in some easy looks for Gay/DeRozan etc?

As owner of Team Come At Me Bruh, which has both Valanciunas and Amir Johnson, it drives me crazy when I watch Toronto games and all I see is Gay and DeRozan chucking at will and ignoring Jonas when there's a weak defender on him.

Speak to me!

Hey, Bargs pwned Howard 1-on-1.

All trolling aside, the team defense is bad because the best interior defender (Chandler has a broken leg) and because Felton isn't athletic enough to stay with anybody on the wings. Shumpert is a good defender but he can't play everybody.

b/c rudy + demar are selfish me-first shooters that have no concept of passing. add into a mix a non pick and roll pg and our bigs only duty is to go get the offensive boards and hope for putbacks. we are featuring jonas a little bit in the post. he is doing well at times there but he's still only 20 and developing. but they are not getting easy buckets and they have to fend for themselves. our offense is terrible, i blame casey but i put more blame on rudy + demar + lowry. if we still had jose, those two would be beasting.

it's sort of inexplicable really. is he a victim of circumstance or is the defense his victim? you just can't discount how he is a major part of any team's poor defensive efforts. he doesn't deter anyone from going into the lane. he is slow to every single rotation. he has very poor instincts and can't recognize things happening away from the ball. opposing teams take advantage of that. this year at least, it looks like he's giving some effort but ultimately, this has to do with just having terrible defensive instincts when it's not a 1 on 1 guarding situation. and he's not a *great* enough scorer to outweigh the negatives on the other end. it's a shame he isn't 2-3 inches shorter and 30 pounds lighter b/c then he would be the sf he plays like.

he's a center playing as a shooting guard... I didn't think that could have such a terrible effect on the team dynamic but I was clearly wrong

djsunyc @ 11/20/2013 2:58 PM

case in point, everyone focus on amare but look at bargs. he steps away from the driving player and loses 2 guys b/c he doesn't box out. even tho amare is lol worthy, bargs has no concept what to do either.

every other big in the league steps over to challenge. also watch hardaways half ass swipe at the ball. your team right now doesn't have an identity and melo is trying to be the hero.

gunsnewing @ 11/20/2013 3:09 PM
Another thing. Is Amare who was heated in the post game sabotaging the team because he is sick of watching Melo pound the ball?

I know bargs and Amare are the 2 worst rotational defenders of all time. This is why you can tell woody is a bad coach because he plays both of them at THE SAME TIME. At least Bargs gives give decent man D. Amare is just as bad at man D as he is at rotational D. One of these days they both will end up doubling one of the refs.

It is the pick the Nuggets have the right to swap with the Knicks.
tj23 @ 11/21/2013 5:11 AM
This teams defensive struggles go beyond 1 man or even the physical effort being put out.
1) This team has no concept of how to pick up players in transition
2) Dating back to last year, we have no pick and roll defense. That includes EVERY big on this team, including Melo when he plays the 4. Guards come full speed off ball screens and get right in the paint, or we switch and have Barg on Jeff Teague. The players know what to do, woodson's outlined what they need to do, yet they continue to be a bunch of lazy bums.
yellowboy90 @ 11/21/2013 5:26 AM
I not seduced by his pretty moves but I am seduced by the hard hat he put on when he guarded Howard and Hibbert. The man was banging and fighting his tail off and got on the boards.

He is working on his value... We must use it.
