JD: I hired McKinsey in the summer, and Glen is more of a “classic” GM, and he just wasn’t the guy to lead this initiative for the team, and it had to be someone in that position who could do it because I wasn’t going to do it. It needed someone behind it, someone who understood it, and that just wasn’t Glen’s forte. I think he was a good general manager, he’s got a great eye for talent, he knows basketball well, but the job description changed.

So I wanna see what this new "Initiative" actually produces for this team. Dolan has put his money and faith behind these guys. Nothing else Dolan has done has worked. I can understand him wanting to try something new.

Thing that doesn't make sense is, how the heck is Steve Mills better qualified to lead these changes?!

Ironic, in a way, greater empahsis on analytics/metrics, given brutally bad efficiency metrics for Melo specifically, and offense generally.

22 mil for this. It doesn't even show all of the turnovers on offense

Not sure what you call getting rid of or trading Jordan hill, 2012 first round pick,ZBo, DLee, Nate Robinson, Crawford, etc to have the right to have amare but the Knicks did give up a lot.

More than a decade ago, Dolan told me that the worst year he’s ever had owning the Knicks was — you might want to sit down for this one — 1999. Yes, the year the Knicks last reached the NBA Finals. Unlike Friday’s arranged Q&A, I actually had a follow-up question. It was something along the lines of, “Why’s that? You went to the Finals.”
Dolan never answered the follow-up, but I remember thinking at the time, “Man, this franchise is in trouble.”
