I'm calling it right now. Melo will be a Laker next season and Phil Jackson will be back to coach the team. No one is paying attention but the current Laker squad are a perfect fit for the Triangle. These player will transition very easily into the triangle. They are long, athletic and move the ball well. People always say Phil always had the best player in the league when he won his championships. This may be true but he always had the best scorer in the league too, which in the past happen to be the best player. The best score in the league is Melo. Melo in a system like the triangle, he might finally win with the right coach who can reign him in some. On paper Kobe and Melo together may not make sense,but if you watched their two Olympic runs, Melo and Kobe had the best chemistry between any two players.
Leaving is a big gamble, going to LA is an even bigger gamble. You don't win in LA and it ruins your legacy. That team won't be set up well for him in the future. Plus he learned a lot watching Dwight's issues. I can't see him going there, although he may entertain it. That could be a disaster for his career, where as NY he can go down as one of the greatest here with just a couple nice playoff runs.

Thanks bro. But last years moderate successes vs the previous 10 years of epic fails make your statement about damage incorrect. Add that fact that we are clear of payroll in 1 1/2 years to do whatever we choose. Phil Jackson has age and health issues, plus the way the Lakers treated him last time they were looking for a coach burnt that bridge. Phil only usually takes over teams that can win it all- Carmelo alone isn't going to cut it. Likely the Lakers keep D'Antoni, in which case I can't see Melo signing with them.

If he leaves it would be likely to LA, however playing with a broke down Kobe doesn't seem like a great option. At best he gets 2 years of playing with an all-star level Kobe, then after that he finds himself in a far worse situation than he has in NY.

Kobe just got 24 per for 2 years. He couldve had as much as 70 for 2 so he took substantially less. We have to wash Nash and his 9.5mm--my bet is they trade hm out with a couple of draft picks. and open up maximum cap space. Carmelo is gone they better think about it.

If they wash Nash out they are at 27mm They could swipe Melo for 4 years 80mm opt out after three which would put the cap at 46-47mm to fill out the roster. Maybe give Gasol 7 Hill 5 etc... The bottom line is this--what team is better--the Knicks as is or with Kobe and 25mm to spend?
