Yes im already looking ahead.

Question...what exactly does a qualifying offer mean?

knickstorrents @ 11/26/2013 11:21 PM
To simplify things, just pay attention to the players with 0's. Otherwise the team has a way to hold on to the player (except for player option, which means the player can leave money on the table and become a FA).
CrushAlot @ 11/26/2013 11:23 PM
Not a big fan of Jeff Green but if the Knicks took on that beast of a deal do you think they could get Rondo?
arkrud @ 11/26/2013 11:27 PM
How many of them will still have their moving body parts in order in 2015?

A qualifying offer is the amount necessary to make a player a restricted free agent.

If we take on ALL of the Celtics bad contracts, I think we'd be in the conversation. We need to figure out a way to get them picks and young players to complete such a deal though.

RonRon @ 11/27/2013 2:50 PM
3 UFA's to target after we get rid of salaries that go beyond 2015 to be our core
Leaving out RFA's like Irving/Rubio, cause they are unlikely to not sign that first extension for future salary purposes

Maxish
===========

Aldridge
Love

Hibbert

obviously Lebron is #1 but these are the players that I think would be worth a max/near max for their game and salaries

others to consider

Marc Gasol

Rhondo

after, solid role players to 2nd/3rd tier players like
=========================================================

Dragic *player option*
Lin

Jeff Green

Asik
Varejo (if he regains his former NBA shape/injury, this year is his first year back... will take some time to get back in his old form)

DeAndre Jordan
Pekovic
Hickson

players that are FA's after this summer but might not get long term deals because of the 2015 FA class
Maybe some on the list can even be had for the mini MLE with * next to them as value players

Pau Gasol
Dirk

Marion *despite his age he is still one of the better SF/PF's in the league*
Deng
Spencer Hawes

Ariza *
Dudley*
Sefelosha

Koufos *

Sessions *
Bayless *having a bad year so far but has been very good the past 2 years*

2015 older vets and value role players that would sign for experience/leadership at the RIGHT price

vets
=========
Parker
Duncan
KG
AK47
ZBO

Role players
=================

Randy Foye
Matt Barnes

Speights
Anthony Randolph
Nick Collison
Ed Davis

MosGov
Robin Lopez

In general, I think PG and C are the 2 most important positions to fill, depending on which players we can get at the right price to determine the other players/positions to compliment them, even having quality backups for those positions are very important

He'd drive me berserk- once in a while he looks awesome, and then disappears for long stretches. Did not deserve that contract.

I like Jeff Green but as a 6th man. Rondo and Jeff Green would be a great package deal, but I have a hard time believing the Celtics would do us any favors. He probably will be sent west if anywhere.

There was an article a while ago about why Rondo was the most over rated star, it's worth a read:

Not by experts, but raise some interesting things to consider

I've said it before, my plan is to dump our current players for draft picks, tank next season for a high lottery pick (we own our draft pick!), and go after Gasol, Love, and Rondo. Ideally, those three would take a little less money, like the Miami trio, and we could sign someone else like Lou Williams to be our 6th man. Looking at that list, there should be some decent guys available for really cheap to fill out the rest of the roster: Brandon Bass, Mike Dunleavy, Marco Belinelli, and Will Bynum.

Thanks. I was against bringing him here until recently, but we need a quality PG in the worst way. The article mentioned that he wasn't a closer, but they had three of the best closers on the league on the team already. Even with his weaknesses Rondo is still a top five PG IMO, and that's just what we need. This quote from the article sums up why:

He is one of the league's best assist men, perimeter defenders and transition playmakers

I think he's a good rebounder too. He has his pluses, but his attitude concerns me.

You could turn your nose up at Rondo, while we roll out Raymond Felton, Beno Udrih and the Ghost of Pablo Prigioni Past?

Me too, that's why I was really against it, but its a risk worth taking IMO. He's still young and probably could be moved if there were issues, unless he isn't playing well. I really doubt we would have enough to bring him to NY anyway.

I'd cosign the idea but Kevin Love seems like he'll be re-signing with the Wolves.
