Knicks · We miss Novak (page 2)

On top of that he needs good ball movement/player movement/ picks on and the ball, with unselfish basketball, cut effectively, and other players to spread the floor effectively
Like in most systems, it would help to have more talent with the ability to penetrate and handle the ball, with 2-3 post options, and good long/athletic defensive players that have the ability to rotate well to cover his lack of DE

Thats why I don't miss him, too needy . All the stars have to align for him to be effective. Even then he isn't what I would call a clutch shooter. Certainly not someone who could drain a 3 with someone in his face.

I defended him early on last season when he wasn't getting any touches, but after a while I just couldn't do it anymore because anything he gave us had no real impact on the outcome of the game. Glad Bargs is a Knick. Hope it stays that way.

It would be nice to have Novak for the regular season.

he's played 85 minutes!

That was my argument last season when he was getting criticised by most people on this board. Now after demanding he be traded, people want him back- it seems this happens with every player!

You know the old saying...you don't miss someone til there gone..

The only knick player that I was truly glad to get rid of was Eddy Curry

Not me

Novak was a lot more effective playing with Lin though

I'd definitely like those three draft picks back

What's depressing is that Bargs value is probably higher than when we traded for him, yet no other team would give us a first rounder for him now.

Novak + MDA you mean? Because I do not miss the Steve Novak under coach Woodson. Thanks Coach !!!

gunsnewing wrote:His ability to spot up and stretch the floor whether he made or missed the shot. You had to respect him. Who scares you from the perimeter on this team other than Melo the guy who benefits most from the space? THJ? nah

Of course we miss Novak, our 3pt % was so correlated with his last year... I said when Bargagni was traded to the knicks that this would kill melo because it would kill spacing. I hate to say this, but sometimes I told you so doesn't quite say it.

we don't have any of these things and that is why we are struggling, Melo is not Lebron, he does not have the ability to facilitate, penetrate off the dribble, defend, or even post up like him, but Woodson continues to have him initiate our OFFENSE when that just isn't his skill set

On building a team having

3 players that have the ability to penetrate/finish/facilitate (unless u have a great PG like CP3)
2-3 players that could post up 1v1 effectively
2 shot blockers at PF/C and 1-2 good 1v1 DEFENDERS at the G/F position, like a young Marion or Battum/Paul George, a PG that could push the tempo and stay in front of opponents PG's and get through screens
4 to even 5 shooters that can hit a wide open 3pter

the more weapons you have, the harder it is for opponents DEF to figure out a way to stop the OFFENSE and have a way to recover
Same for DEF, the more lock down defenders you have, you could not worry about helping and help can come in all directions

I agree with you that the PG position is killing this season for the Knicks. Asides from that our main player is basically a iso scorer very rarely moves without the ball. Melo could easily average more points and be more efficient if he learned to move without the ball. Instead of taking a pounding in the post. He is a good scorer but lacks basketball know how and basic instincts. That is why he hated playing under D'Antoni because the ball finds the player with energy and Melo never showed the energy unless he got the ball in the post.

Novak had Melo and that'S all he needed. Melo, although I dislike his game, is nearly unguardable 1on1. Surround him by 3pt shooters, dump him the ball and gest some popcorn.

I can't believe we broke something D'antoni left us from the grave (that many hate around here) and made us win 54 wins last year.

Some teams try hard to be good, it seems the Knicks do their best to fail.

I miss Glenn Gondrezick and Toby Knight.

I miss Lavor Postell! (Hey, did anyone note that Postell has a new career? He joined the army: http://www.army.mil/article/96167/NBA_player__Lavor_Postell__joins_U_S__Army/.)

Good for lavor, I couldn't imagine joining the military at age 35.

Using Novak as a SPREAD the floor type player just DOESN'T WORK
All the opponents DEFENSE has to do is put the man 1v1 on him and NEVER CHEAT or HELP when they cannot recover in time to contest his shot, and he will be locked down
Our DEF constantly helps even when we face shooters that have been great shooters the entire career and yet continue to let them get hot because our philosophy on DEF requires HELP and constant switching, like recently on players like Kevin Martin (is this on the coach or players)

We all noticed the difference between the play of Novak and many others from Lin initiating our offense versus Melo doing it
Yet our coach continues to stick with this philosophy on OFFENSE that doesn't work along with his DEFENSIVE lineups and philosophies that are completely flawed and also don't work

playa2 @ 11/28/2013 12:53 PM
I miss Eddie Lee Wilkins, he could protect the paint and score ashy legs and all.

How come nobody's missing Larry Hughes?
