2014 first round draft pick to Denver
- 2014 second round draft pick to Houston
- 2015 second round draft pick to Houston
- 2016 first round draft pick to Denver or Toronto
- 2016 second round draft pick to Sacramento, protected for selections 31-37
- 2017 second round draft pick to Toronto -
We got bitched slapped by Houston Denver and Toronto--these guys did not hedge against poor seasons.

The way I look at it is we're 2 1/2 years away from a clean slate (minus 1 2nd round pick in 2017, which isn't devastating). Dolan won't do it but we could make many great decisions between now and then that put us in a position to be good for a long time.

Briggs, I was trying to explain to Mrs Nalod about Marbury, Eddy, Capspace trades and Melo trades were suppose to make us better and its why we trade away picks. To make these deals and get worse and perhaps watch a pick become a lottery pick is criminal.
We swap picks with Denver this year right?

I don't hold much stake in the 2nd round picks. They can be bought easily. Basically we have 2 lost first round picks, and it could be a lot worst. People talk about this year's pick being unprotected, but the reality is this team will win enough games to not finish top 5 or whatever. Owning the 2015 pick is key because what happens in 2014 with Melo will dictate the future. We have the option to tank next year if we choose, or take a different path with or without Melo, but the key is the options are there.
Can't buy 2nd round picks anymore as it counts. You can spend it on a player or a pick but not both. CBA put the Kibosh on some of that.
We built a team and the CBA has been awful. Dolan should have had the saavy Steve Mills on board a few years ago.
We could have had a full team with Talent, picks, assets, etc. and MElow could have had NJ.
At least we got protection on the 2016 second round pick. That's progress, right?

If the argument is we could have taken our package for Melo and turned it into another talented player, thats fine, although it was less likely. I disagree. They would have sent him to NJ who had a deal with Denver even without the promise of an extension. Then we would have turned around and sent our assets to Utah for Deron Williams. If you think this team is in rough shape now, try having Williams and Stoudemire as the best players for the next 2 years. Williams is breaking down and his contract runs even longer. Even with the way the team is playing, people who hate the Melo trade fail to see what the realistic alternatives would have been.

knicks have their own 2015 first rounder.
raptors or denver gets knicks 2016 first rounder.
so over the next 3 drafts, knicks have only 1 first rounder and that's 2015.
smart owner/gm - trade melo for draft pick in this draft (lottery or not) - and hope to squeeze another one in 2016.
tank immediately for the next 2 seasons.
become player in 2015 FA market while hopefully landing a stud in the 2015 draft.

Yep and the media(led by Stephen A. Michael Kay and Mike Francesa) kept pushing that you give up everything you have to get a player like Carmelo and Dolan was listening and the rest is history

This is the right plan considering we just heard SAS say Melo is gone. BUT my belief is that this east is so bad that Knicks management will look at the at the division and see how they can improve instead of blowing up--hoping to make the playoffs(which is legit because the east scks) and than talk Melo into staying with 5 years 154MM. I think they will do almost anything to keep Melo and risk going through the trade deadline even if things have not gotten better. NO team is going to be out in tyhe Atlantic for quite some time. I think Melo still represents a formula to have a so called super star and aguy who can give us a chance to get to the playoffs. I will note that 75%+ of Knick fans at a minimum now want Melo gone.
The only way to get out of this hole is to blow it the fuck up. Send Melo away for multiple players that actually fit.

Ok, but trade Melo to whom? To a team he'll resign with. Lets be real, trading him is not easy. How? Do the lakes have their own pick this year? I assume melo resigns with them. would he go to Chicago? La La has to approve. Would he go to dallas? Houston? Can he and Harden exist to win?
Its easy to say "lets trade him" but were is the leverage?
i hate to break it to my fellow knick fans but the general managers and front offices league-wide have had the scales fall from their eyes regarding our hero. it was bound to happen eventually.
he is virtually untradeable at this point in his career. he has a hard time fitting in with others, his price tag is way too high and his skills way too limited to add him to a near-contender except as a mark aguirre-type.
then there's the issue of character....

Houston has a little hiccup right now. They lost 2 in a row because Lin and Parsons are out. They also want to get rid of Asik. Natives are restless and they want their next big thing for their big 3. Imagine Dwight, TJones, Melo, Harden, Beverley lineup. That would challenge the Heat.
