What was the real reason for Shumpert's great play last night? Was it the fact that their was ball movement finally and Shumpert felt like part of the team instead of hiding out in the corner. I would like to believe that. Maybe he is finally fully healthy? Can he every play like this consistently????? All I know is that he looked like a completely different person on the court last night. If he can play like that consistently then the Knicks season might not be dead just yet.
Ball movement. He actually wasn't completely frozen out of the offense. Once he made the first few shots his confidence soared. He became more spry and actually felt like he was part of the team again. Not a team where 2 guys pound the ball for 20secs
That's what happens when you hit a couple shots.
Confidence in yourself and team confidence in others. Less ISO and more ball movement when guys hit shots.
I think the Knicks were like 70% FG or something in the 1st quarter? Good starts tend to do that. Bad starts, well see the rest of the season.
And it was the Nyets who he can't stand along with a few other knicks.
He had to back his words up after pointing at Melo's lack of ball movement/ defensive inefficiencies the other game....
And he did so with his confidence, he made sure he took full opportunity of this poor Net's DEF and the ball movement to prove a point, but we could tell he wanted this one
He took 2 HORRIBLE 3pt shots early in the game in which one was converted, he wanted to show Melo, the coaches, the rumours, that he can ball, and has been sacrificing for the better of the team
He also takes the initiative to PUSH THE BALL so we don't get match up vs a set DEF, no one else on the team does that and values it as much as Iman
It just seems like the team needed to see shots falling. Shump was hitting, THJr was hitting, JR was hitting, etc. We have enough shooters where you can deal with one being off. But NO ONE has been shooting consistently this year yet. Yesterday was the team from last year. The team that can beat anyone on any given night.
I know we played the Nets, but we beat a putrid team by 30, as it should be when a good team faces a bad team.
Still 4-13. A lot of work needs to be done until they're back. A loss tonight against ORL negates yesterday in my book.

Yea the Knicks prob is when the shots are not falling they revert to pounding the ba with Melo and JR. Might be the CAA influence when others start to shine. They need to sustain this level of play. We've seen them shoot light out before. They have to trust each other. Bargnani is automatic from midrange. Probably the best in the game now that Dirk is slowing down

From what I understand, Knicks 'brass' is quickly being overwhelmed by the new agency they hired,
and this is a good thing,

Be aggressive take what is yours that is the attitude that Shump needs to adopt aggression with smart play.
We played the worst defense in the league. Shump has been showing plays here and there all season, but it seems he's the only one on a leash while JR and Metta and Hardaway get to chuck everything up and dribble in circles. Put Shump on the second unit where he doesn't feel like the rook on the floor. Stop running these terribly predictable slow paced pick and rolls and maybe we can bounce back on offense.
When you get good shots in rhythm and have ball movement it makes a world of difference.
Guys have to be involved offensively in order to build confidence, you don't build confidence on defense. When u make stops and convert them into points that builds energy and once you start hitting shots that builds confidence. .
I think the key for the Knicks is to get everyone else involved early, besides Melo and Bargnani. You get the Shumperts, Feltons, Amare's, Kmarts, Hardaways hitting shots, then it's a c*m fiesta. Bukkake, everybody gets involved.

He made shots and thats about it really. This was not the first time he brought the ball up in a hurry or took quick shots early in the possession or was over matched at times on the blk by Joe Johnson size. I like Shump and hope he continues to be a Knick but I didn' really see a huge difference in his game.
Maybe he isn't being used correctly but there is a big difference in his game offensively and the Jrs. They are used off screens and conduct pnrs as well as spot up. I find it interesting how THJR can step in a do those things but Shump is rarely used that way. Like I said it could be coaching or it could be that Shump is not that kind of two guard. He might be another Lance Stevenson type who needs to push to find early offense or spot up behind the arch. The big difference comes in Stevenson is a better finisher. I hope this game did pick up his confidence and his defense comes back to show up every night.
In the first half shump was chucking. He kept trying to go 1 on 5 as he brought the ball up and he was letting go 3poiters as soon as he crossed half court.
He made them last night. He needs to be on a open court team that can tolerate that. The knicks can't playing like that.
You guys credit ball movement? Yeah they did do a better job and actually had some good sequences but they also were making terrible shots. If those shoes missed like they have been the game would have been different.
We can't shoot 57% every night
I think it has everything to do with Melo's attitude: Once he trusts his teammates and looks to involve them, good things happen. When he takes the rock and tries to set himself up to score on EVERY possession, the others check out of the offensive game.
I wish Woody was more inspiring and a better communicator so he could get through Melo's ego to the "winner within". This team will only go as far as Melo can LEAD it.
For now, it was a game against the Nets, really cant charge it to anything else at this time.

He's forcing the action. That's all you ask if your players is to be aggressive. He's got to learn to pick his spots. Going 1 on 5 is not good basketball. Neither is jacking 3s early in the shot click with his teammates behind him.
