Sports writers who hold vigils for firing the ooach do NYK basketball followers a disservice.
There are only two players in our backcourt capable of playing at a modern, uptempo pace with halfway decent court awareness. Toure Murry and Tim Hardaway Jr.
The rest of the roster is composed of plodders. Carmelo Anyhony included. The contrast with OKC (or the Lakers bench for that matter) is stunning. While these teams make the extra pass to hit the open man - we struggle with a simple entry to the post. That is a lack of quick decision making.
We dribble too much.
If it were as simple as firing the ooach, even The Answer Man would be down. Unfortunately, the coach cannot handle the ball or find passing angles on the break.
When was the last time the Knicks ran a fast break without fumbling the ball into traffic?
Yes, our defensive leader tyson Chandler gives effort, but he may, quite possibly, be the most clumsy big man in the history of the NBA at catching the ball on the move, in the paint, and finishing in traffic. Iman Shumpert has ability but his decision-making has not improved with reps - it has gotten worse. Amare shoots from outside like a small forward. Andrea Bargnani is somewhere in between looking for threes or mid range jumpers. JRSmith thinks he is World B free. Me first.
No one goes to the glass hard. No one.
There is something wrong here. Smething very wrong here.
We need new and quick thinking players and a dominant floor leader who can teach his running buddies how to love the assist. It starts with transitioning from the half court, three point shot crutch - and acquiring players who can push the ball, and pass the ball, in transition.
Toure and Tim are a start. Not the answer. Just a start.

About five minutes into the third period, (Russell Westbrook) had more rebounds (12) than all of the Knicks' big men — Tyson Chandler, Andrea Bargnani, Kenyon Martin and Amar'e Stoudemire (11)—combined.
Who else is there?
Begley is going hard after Woodson. Five articles in two days where he was talking about replacing the coach. He took a break but seems to be on that path again. The thing is he is the only guy that covers the team that is doing it.

The other teams we play make most of their shots and then on the ones they miss, mostly our bigs are out of position having to give so much help defensively. On the other end we take a lot of long jumpers and so that leads to a lot of long rebounds and thus again that keeps our guys from getting a lot of rebounds. It's a vicious cycle of bad. On top of the fact that none of the guys are what you'd call rugged rebounders anyway.
Dolan would probably rather people had hope that this will get better with a new coach than let people find out that it's still a .300 team with a new coach.

Wow. Glad I was visiting with family from the first quarter on. Westbrook was the leading rebounder in the game. Kenyon only played 13 minutes in his first game back so I think you have to give him a pass. Bargs didn't get a lot of minutes either. He seemed to be playing really well on offense in the first quarter. I didn't see most of the game so I don't know why he didn't get more minutes.

This is Tyson STRENGTH, he has a whole career of excelling in these situations....the difference is when he doesnt EXPECT the ball he bobbles the ball.

Maybe the coach should run some passing drills? Why is it other teams can do simple things like passing the ball, and we struggle? Less hero ISO ball already. And I think yes, changing the coach would improve many things. Get a new system, new voice, stop switching all the time on defense.
Do we suddenly become a 700 team overnight? No. We might have the same record, but at least I'd like to see effort and better strategy.
KnicksCity - one more thing, when a big man is maneuvering in the paint, shouldn't he always expect the ball?

He doesn't need to. He gets a lot of dunks a game. He goes up strong rather than laying it up. He needs an adequate play-maker to set him up though.
He can't dunk it if he can't catch it.
When the ball is placed right in his hands and he always fumbles it wide open it just means he doesn't have good hands hands or good offensive instincts. He is not an efficient scorer as his 60% shooting would suggest
I don't care if Jason Kidd is passing him the ball. If he can't catch he's useless.
He might occasionally be able to go 3 for 5 on 3 dunks though. If everything breaks right

it's not about featuring him, it's just the statement is as false at it comes.
If he's shooting 60% thats proof he can catch....when he's expecting it.
Tyson is one of the best pnr bigs in the league, and certainly can handle lobs, not even sure why folks are disputing this.
