Knicks · have folks totally forgotten what really made Linsanity happen? (page 3)

Curse of the Dragon. Unless we get lucky and get another very good PG then we are going to see this kind of play for years to come. We don't even have our own fucking pick this year which is going to be in the lottery. Yeah, I know stating the obvious.
Instead of Lin we get the Knucklehead brothers. Yippee.
I brought up Linsanity because Tyson Chandler looked good offensively. Jared Jeffries was getting buckets and looked like a real NBA player. Good guard play elevated the whole team. Bad guard play can bring down a whole team. We are seeing it now and we have need it before on this same team very recently pre-linsanity.
I undertsand that MSG didnt want to overpay for Lowry, but they were so worried about overpaying that they didnt consider their team needs.

Here's what I don't get whenever people defend letting Lin walk. Even if you take the view that Lin was at BEST a serviceable backup PG (his numbers certainly bear that out), we got him without giving up any assets, won his bird rights via an arbitration hearing THEN LET HIM WALK FOR NOTHING when our not even close biggest need is serviceable guards! How ax anyone seriously defend the Knicks decision making here? And screw the cap, this is the Dolan Knicks who spent billions marching out garbage teams for a decade.

This is the same franchise that paid Larry Brown $40 million or whatever for 1 year of coaching. Jerome James 30 mil to eat instead of ball. Allan Houston $100 mil when no other team was offering more than what? 60-70 million? What did Shandan Anderson and Howard Eisley get combined again? How about Clarence Witherspoon getting the full MLE for 4 years. Eddy Curry getting max'ed. And more recently Amare getting $100 million uninsured when his own team wouldn't go near that amount. I could go on and on here.
The point is that the Knicks all of a sudden caring about money doesn't jive. This fiscal responsibility seems to _only_ be a factor in Lin's situation.
the lin phenomenon was larger than nba life-- it became a global event. that means that it made people with fragile egos on the knicks look on with envy and resentment at the young man.
his career as a knick was doomed by the usual suspects who live by hypocrisy and double standards and the ability to "compartmentalize." the phrase "ridiculous contract" comes to mind, as do a certain coach's lukewarm, damning with faint praise postgame comments, and of course a certain owner's rumored inability to countenance retaining the services of a player who would not be under his control and influence.

Seriously though, wouldn't Lin's contract run through 2014, the same year basically all the other big contracts that are hamstringing our flexibility also expire?
fishmike wrote:Guard play... that simple. In steps a guy who dribbled with his head up, could get in the lane, could make a pass and was a threat to score.Do folks remember how utterly terrible the team looked with a healthy Melo/Amare/Chandler when Toney Douglas was running point and folks were waiting for Baron Davis to come back?
Im a bit suprised we didnt just get Lowry and work on an extension etc.. This team so desperately needs what he brings. This team is not as bad as its record.
We dont have a 55% post player (Ewing) that allows our PGs to walk the ball up the court and drop it into the paint. We need a floor general to get guys involved. What we have are some 'scorers' chucking the ball at the rim everything they can actually see it.
No one has forgotten. Stevie Wonder can see that we have no options at PG. I am to the point where I can't even buy into a healthy Felton. I think this season is already lost. I just hope we can address this gap next season. Also, I think this JR situation is quickly becoming a powder keg. The guys hasn't been the same since the elbow game, and I don't think he is the least bit remorseful about the situation too. At this point, I am not sure how long it will take this guy to come back to form. I hope he does and soon.

They would have been better even if Melo did not like having to share the ball.

Apparently folks never tire of would be savior scenarios with no basis in reality. Were you pining away for Lin when he couldn't keep Toney. D on the bench, or are you just splooging at another Melohate opportunity?
The Knicks were going to be better last season with Lin?
So by simple math, you're saying Lin + Melo is better than Lin + Harden?
