Knicks · Bargnani and Stoudemire killed them (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 1/10/2014 12:17 AM
They pounded the Heat inside opening up perimeter play. Its frustrating seeing Bargs play so well--I dont need 25 points and 10 rebounds--give me 18-5 and 50% Amare I give it to the man--he could quit but he never has. Hes a tough SOB
fitzfarm @ 1/10/2014 1:03 AM
Agreed... I've always liked bargs, and he played great on both ends of the floor tonight .. I think people don't give him credit he's one of those guys that when he messes up he looks extra bad doing it ... But he was great next too stat and melo I think he's gonna flourish as the third option when stat and melo are on the floor . wide open jumpers all day for bargs and he's really good at making them!
nixluva @ 1/10/2014 3:14 AM
I've said it since day one that Bargs can help this team if he's used right. The media tried to paint him as a Novak replacement but that isn't who he is. He's been one of the best PnP players for years. Bigs hate guarding Bargs. Bargs man D is VERY GOOD but it gets overlooked due to his mistakes on help D.

I always loved STAT and I'm glad for him. He worked hard to change his game and I hope he gets to play in the Playoffs this year healthy and in full season form. We need a big to post inside and he's really good at it now.

14 assists

Terrific team game, and lots of terrific individual games as well. Carmelo Anthony played an absolutely stupendous 42 minutes-- 29 points on 24 varied shots, eight boards, and five lovely assists to cutters and shooters. Andrea Bargnani took his lumps defensively, but also made some damn PLAYS on both ends of the floor, blocking a couple shots, hitting a few jumpers, and faking folks out of their boots for some lovely drives. Raymond Felton racked up 14 assists out of the pick-and-roll. Iman Shumpert shot a wonderful 4-7 from downtown. Amar'e Stoudemire worked diligently around the rim to finish and clean up what he didn't finish. J.R. Smith didn't play.

- Seth Rosenthal

We go as far (and as fast) as Raymond Felton can lead us.

That is all

GustavBahler @ 1/10/2014 7:03 AM
Yeah, they both worked their buts off. Great job.

Why is it frustrating to see Bargs play so well?

The guy did exactly what he was brought in to do last night ---space the floor and gives us another scoring option ! And he has done it most of the year !

GoNyGoNyGo @ 1/10/2014 8:30 AM
Bargs is a scorer and has some very good offensive tools. STAT is tough in the post now. If his hands were only better, he could be real tough.

NY has 5 guys that can play the 4-5. That is good.

The Knicks played well last night. Give them credit.

Did anyone miss JR ? I honestly did not except for the constant reminder of the announcers.

sealy @ 1/10/2014 9:30 AM
It was really great to see considering Miami's perimeter D and rotations make shooting outside tough.

I hope Woodson finally recognizes the correlation between more minutes and production once everyone is healthy to help keep up this level of play from the team.

agree with this 100% briggs.. especially what you said about amear. the dude could have quit so many times but he just keeps pushing himself. i know everyone gets on his contract, but he's a great dude, love em.

don't let the fire hydrant hear you say that

Cartman718 @ 1/10/2014 10:48 AM
honestly, i think if chandler would have played... we would have lost, because we would have lost a lot of ball movement on offense and missed bargs play off the dribble.

I don't know about that... but I do think the team struggles with such a different type of center getting subbed in for the one coming out

misterearl @ 1/10/2014 10:51 AM
Cool

Does this make Bargnani our starting center?

Shift DuJour

Felton
Shumpert
Melo
Martin
Bargnani

Stoudemire
Junior
Toure Murry
Chandler

Clearly, if you take minutes away from players who went 9 for 13 and 7 for 12, the team is going to be worse off.
RonRon @ 1/10/2014 10:57 AM
Must give both AB and STAT much credit, especially STAT
STAT had to work very hard to rehabilitate time after time and he never gave up despite the chances of him getting a future contract (anything much above the vet min) are low with his knee issues

As for AB, I don't think he fits well with Chandler, it is great to see him go off like he did on BOSH

The TEAM has been playing much better especially with Felton, Melo, Iman, and Martin I think they all have been playing much better in our mini win streak as well

Iman has been anticipating missed shots very well, especially Melo's shots very well, he has been averaging close to 8-10 rebounds the past few games
I think he was affected by trade rumors and with Dolan himself giving his word and then Woodson finally showing him some love again, his performance and confidence is showing, with his rebounding, DEF, and wide open 3pt shooting

When Felton plays well, we look much better, however, he can be very inconsistent
I think a PG like a Norris Cole is more defined than Felton, who is mixed between a SG and a PG, and a 6th man vs a starter
While Murry is not the flashiest player, I think he can bring consistency, his DEF and ability to handle the ball should be serviceable to our team

Melo has been moving the ball and I hope it continues
Showing trust in team mates and allowing him to save his energy/stamina for the 4th quarter and doing other things

Martin has filled in very nicely for Chandler, like he did last season
Martin is among one of our finest on the team, including Iman, Chandler, and Murry
I really think Woodson should learn to build chemistry with that lineup to close out games at times

I wouldn't say that so definitively. There is another side of the ball, too. Hypothetically, if Chandler grabbed 20 rebounds and otherwise was a defensive beast that shut down everything inside when he played, we wouldn't necessarily be worse off. Just sayin' its arguable.

Say What?

Closing with Iman, Martin, Chandler, and Murry.. plus Melo?

How about on LeBron's end of first quarter shot? Or Wade's shot the THJ fouled him on? Or LeBron's late game cut five feet up form the baseline? Or..?

Yeah, you'd have to be clueless to think over the long-haul Bargnani will be a better center than Chandler. It was unlikely (not impossible but unlikely) that Chandler would have had a better impact than Bargnani did last night though.

When Chandler missed time earlier, we didn't capitalize on offense because the other players were not clicking as much. Felton's play was bad, JR's play was bad and so was Melo's to some extent.

I still think Chandler is our starting center against those teams that have a Howard, Hibbert, Marc Gasol, type of center. Bargs is not physical enough to play them. So I like the line up you have against someone like the Heat, but definitely not against the Pacers, who we need to learn how to handle better.

With the heat, it's clear which 3 players you have to stop. With the Pacers, its not clear beyond Paul George.

Yeah, I definitely noticed that. The team still missed Chandler's presence but Bargnani this time made up for it with his offense. He'll need to keep shooting around 70% for that to happen though!
