I know it's probably a pipedream but I was thinking that Stephenson would be a perfect fit (from a basketball standpoint) on this team if we kept Melo. There is some concern that he might leave the Pacers for financial reasons, so maybe there is some possibility we could leverage Indiana's situation for a sign and trade in the offseason. We'd certainly have the expirers, Iman Shumpert and Tim Hardaway Jr. as leverage to make a deal for cents on the dollar. My only concern is that Lance seems like an idiot; the kind that would let the money get to his head and piss away his talents. Thoughts?
I think one problem is with the new CBA. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the team who receives the signed and traded player have to be under the cap?
Lance is from the area. It would probably be too much of a distraction for him.
I would love to have Lance here and am still slightly peeved that we took friggin Andy Rautins over him. Hard to be mad at the Landry Fields pick because he was useful for us but - seriously - Andy Rautins over Lance Stephenson???

But he is a good character guy... somewhere in Europe.

I find the fact that the organization we root for can't cultivate character disgusting

It cultivates headcases instead.
Every organization has its straights.
And by the way the headcases MSG produces are spectacular!!!

WHY IS it a perfect fit only if we kept melo... jeez man.. lance would be a good fit on this team without him especially.. lance likes to handle the ball and he plays good defense... I would look to build a team with guys who do the same.. can move without the ball and like to defend.. therefore I don't see how that would be a perfect fit...
a perfect fit would be to get lance and then get a PF who can actually play PF..

We did sign and trades for Marcus Camby and Raymond Felton while over the cap and took back more salary in the process. The Nets just did the same with Keith Bogans in the KG/Pierce deal. I don't know enough about the CBA to comment definitively but their seems to be evidence that would suggest that it is possible. More likely, teams either found some loophole or maybe we're just missing something.

They should give out degrees in capology. Gave up years ago. I was impressed with how Walsh go us out of cap hell as fast as he did considering how many bad deals we had. Layden and Isiah really did a number on the franchise with Dolan's encouragement.

Sad to say, but you might be right. It would be nice to have a shooting guard who can consistently share ballhandling duties with the point. Lance would help in that area. But we're already kinda loaded at two-guards. How many can we stockpile?

We have to be under the apron, which is $4M over the luxury tax threshold. Next season we're going to be around $20M over the luxury tax so we won't be able to receive a sign-and-traded player unless we're somehow able to cut salary.

I always thought Andy was taken because there was an Italian league connection between his father and dantoni. How else do you draft a 24 year old not projected to be taken in the draft at that spot? Knicks could have taken lance and brought Andy to camp.

I almost had a heart attack when he got picked up by the Bulls. Who did he.....to get on that squad?
"With Melo here, getting role players will be very easy"
we have yet replaced the F's of Wilson Chandler or Gallo's caliber
So, if Lance isn't an All Star, he is a role player on a team with much talent,
"CA's ability to score open things up for the players on his team, creating double and triple teams, and making things much easier for his team mates"
"but they didn't win 54 games, win the Atlantic, The Pacer's strike no fear to me"...
Above are
combinations of some quotes of some of the posters here....

It seems to get more complex, year after year for no particular reason. I don't understand the spirit behind the changes and my general opinion is that it hurts the game. More power to those who keep up with it all though, lol.
