Could it be this is why he's considered just an regular season coach ?

You seem to think that just by replacing woodson the team will all of a sudden become a contender lol. Look im not a fan of Woodson but he isnt the only problem. I think you are overrating the talent of thsi basketball team. Other than melo the talent is mediocre its just the Truth

No what i'm saying is he limited , so the team he coaches will be limited. I never said he was the only problem, I'm saying he doesn't have the ability to lead this team.
Im not saying you are wrong about Woodson BUT the team isnt very good at all

up and down this roster, you see guys are playing way below there averages except for melo, so how is it that he's not getting even the normally out put for majority of his roster.

when MDA coached the suns and Nash earn the MVP award, every single player was playing well beyond there avg.

Woodson thinks he has a bunch of high IQ players that will figure it out on there own, and not only does he not have any, he doesn't even have that guy (like kidd) who's smartness tends to rubb off on his teammates, or a defensive junk man who's energy an extra effort boost up his teammates.

Yes, Thibs, Doc Rivers, and others are better coaches.

They have other jobs.

What we don't know is maybe Woodson has gotten the max out of them. Last year team won 54 games. This year he is not getting max from them.
We don't know if another coach can do that.

But Playa2 does.

Lance Stephanson looks good cuz he is part of a very very good team right now.

Got Indy Envy? Look how that team was build over time. We don't do that. Vogel was a no name assistant, we don't go there. They were awful for a few years, we don't tank. They traded a pick to get george hill, we trade picks years before we know their value. All this while Granger was an awful contract for them.

So Woodson is not pop, Thibs or Doc and we want woodson gone because of that?

We go with advanced metrics going forward (read Mills)and you want to bring in Hollins who flatly rejected that in Memphis which led to his not being resigned. Why not, its not your money and your not on the hook for a hiring.

You don't know that Woodson has not gotten the most form the idiot we call smith. The walking petrie dish we call Tyson, the cripple we call Amare, the PG they give him called Felton, his back 67 year old back up Priggy, and his understudy Beno. The 56 year old Kmart and the mentally deficient one self called Metta. Bargs is a 15-6 player and we know if healthy he is ok, but not the savior.

Im sure Pop, thibs and Doc could do better, but they got jobs. Phil Jax is not coming. Vogel got a great job and a very good roster. Way better than ours.

Nice take Playa2, hire Hollins who rejected the new math in Memphis and what Mills is bringing to NY. Im sure he is not high on Mill's list, but on yours.

Memphis had Gasol, Z-bo and the very underrated Conley. They got rid of their Albatross called Rudy Gay and GOT BETTER!!!!!!! Was that Hollins or the New GM who recognized his rosters potential?

the last guy we had who was innovative you called gimmicky and couldnt wait to have him gone. Now we have the defensive guy everyone covets and he's no better then the guys who have been here prior. zzzzzzzzzzz

people use to say MDA's roster barely had any defensive players, which is why they play no defense( or very little of it)

Whats Woodsons excuse?

Does the media play defense? Does the Media hit the open shot? Does the media rebound?

Last year the team wins 54, not the media.

Im not buying into the media as the reason our team does not perform.

The Media don't roll the blunts for JR, the Media does not trade picks, the Media does not plan for the future!

The Media does not Hire and Fire GM's and coaches at a higher rate then other teams.

Successful teams get media too! Want to chage the media? Maybe not running the franchise like its a joke is a good start.

Motivation and being innovative is not the issue with Woodson....

The issue is he has no clue what is going on when he should. His team is routinely left out there to figure it out themselves....he has guys playing out of position. He rewards guys for playing horrible defense. He only wants to isolate and let the veterans do their thing. He lets his team argue with the refs more than any team I have ever seen....out of a time out or out of half time he makes no adjustments. His idea of adjusting is simply playing his vets 40 minutes hoping their experience and resumes will get them over the top.

He should have been fired a month ago....Knicks need a coach that isn't afraid to coach. He wants Joe Johnson back so bad it hurts him.

gunsnewing @ 1/17/2014 10:51 AM
Firing him this season am not be the answer but if he is coaching this team next season I'm done

thoroughly agree. the blank stare seems to be the essence of his coaching. Undisciplined team - can't blame them, there seemingly is no offensive system (ISO), a switch strategy on defense that, gently put, is not working, no late and close tactics (see Melo's dreadful 1-20? late and close).

Doesn't have a good roster to say the least, but, that isn't an excuse for rolling out the ball, let them play pickup, and, give sad blank look when it goes awry.

Woodson came on and made them accountable for defense. They finished 18-8 to make the playoffs and Melo was player of the month.

Last year they won 54 games.

If you must play the lame blame game then lay it on Injury.

1. Stat is still part of the team. Coaches coach what is given to them.
2. Bargs got TysonPnmonia over the summer. He started slow.
3. Felton got injured
4. Priggy was injured
5. Metta slowed by injury
6. Kmart slowed by injury
7. FluTyson reverts to career norm
8. Smith suspended 5 games, knee is not right, his head is not right
9. Chris Smith lockerroom distraction
10.loss of Kidd and Rashweeds lockeroom leadership. Melo and JR were asked to step up.

This is what Woodson has to deal with. Some teams over come injury better than others. SOme teams have rosters constructed in a manner than can overcome these issues.

Does this mean woodson is a great great man? No. But it don't make cause to fire him. These issues don't go away.

Did you watch the game last nite and get mad?

Im done. Been done all season. Im not watching many games so I don't get mad. IM following the team and tape all of them and watch some of it but Im not putting 2.5 hours times 82 into this. No way. They are not that watchable.

Its logical for me. I follow teams that are of interest to me and this squad is not. I was tuned in to the Birth of Linsanity because even while that team struggled it was interesting to watch, and behold the birth of the best story that year.

Im not on the bandwagon all the time. Im less of a fan. But IM not mad.

I like Woodson and think his tenure in NY has done a good job. I dont' blame him for this mess. Lots of blame to go around and maybe he can make some adjustments, and maybe he has the team does WORSE?

Its to be considered.

Dolan will fire him if it sells tickets and satisfies the Starphuchers who think change is usually a good thing. At MSG, change is not always that way.

gunsnewing @ 1/17/2014 11:02 AM
Woodson. Sure isn't doing a good job overcoming any of these issues

Bulls made It to the 2nd rd last year with much greater issues. #1 no Derrick Rose and a hobbled Noah. San Antonio lost Parker and Manu for lengthy periods

Nalod @ 1/17/2014 11:02 AM
Blank stares are usually when a coach wants to go off on his team but can't during a game. BLank stares are disbelief moment where he can't fathom how stupid his team is playing. Blank stares is the moment you suck it up cuz a public display of panic does not reflect well on anyone.

The "NEXT excuses"
next up Chandler/AB and back to STAT being injured, then rinse and clean followed up by JR, Felton, Pablo, Udrih
Finally building up to, CA should leave for his own future as he has done everything he can and in his power

I am not a fan of woodson, but the shift of blame to him is hilarious... wood does woodson have to work with where he can make adjustments vs a team that is vastly superior in every way?

why didn't carmelo mention any defensive adjustments.. the pacers scored the most points in the first half than they had all season.. why didn't carmelo guard paul george? PG guarded him, shumpert, JR smith, pretty much shutting carmelo down in the second half.. forced him to the middle where they forced him into bad shots.... but this is what the pacers do every game... they come out strong in the 3rd qtr..

could be a lance stephenson type. paul george hibbert all those guys are knowns. lance stephenson killed us last night. i mean absolutely no one stopped him.

that is another myth.. I like shumpert but he is nothing like a lance type.. doesn't have the size, handle, playmaking abililty, strength, that lance has... I think we need to start seeing things for what they are.. the knicks are old, have overpaid allstars in amare and carmelo, overrated young player in shumpert and a pretty decent young player in THJ who may not be a bad player afterall.. other than that, the pantry is bare with this team... not many places to turn...

tkf @ 1/17/2014 11:11 AM
what I find more amazing is the uproar about getting blown out by the pacers, probably the best team in the league and not such an uproar about losing to the bobcats, who basically owned us as well....

People made excuses for losing to the bobcats.. stuff like "trap game" was mentioned..

lets be real.. I kind of expected this.. the pacers are in another basketball universe right now compared to us.. we should be more upset at losing the bobcats.. AGAIN...

Those who are really upset at this indy loss are really don't seem to have a good feel on what this knick team is about.... we are not that good, actually we are not good at all!

gunsnewing @ 1/17/2014 11:21 AM
I don't disagree with that. After winning 5 straight you would've thought the Knicks were on their way to a ring the way the players and fans were talking
gunsnewing @ 1/17/2014 11:22 AM
The Knicks are back. Yeah rightttt
djsunyc @ 1/17/2014 11:55 AM
melo set the tone this season by declaring he wants to be a "free agent"

if the driving force isn't already inside someone, where they will play hard and be unselfish instinctually, then why should any player really try hard for their leader?

everyone's got a contract for next year so when your guy is saying he wants to be a FA and leave, what makes someone support and help that player if it's not in your nature?

different agendas throughout the roster:

1. melo - plays hard but says he wants to be a FA
2. jr smith - doesn't care, got his deal
3. amare - just trying to stay healthy and playing for his own piece of mind
4. bargs - never cared and still doesn't
5. chandler, felton - hard workers, limited skills
6. young gusy - playing hard but are not there yet

combine all that without anybody on the roster to force everyone to be on the same page (like kidd + probably sheed did last year) and this is what you get.

you can debate all you want about the denver deal for melo but ultimately, the players before melo were forming a teamwork culture that would've made it easier to build with. now it's a fractured unit and it needs a re-set....again. this is very similar to the marbury era.

Carmelo Anthony, rejected emphatically again by center Roy Hibbert, called the rout “embarrassing’’ and then called out Mike Woodson for not making any adjustments to counteract the Indiana onslaught.

Anthony didn’t understand how it got away so quickly as Pacers coach Frank Vogel did all the right things after the opening period. Woodson, for his part, called it “a total team disaster.’’

“They made adjustments the way they played the pick-and-roll, the way they packed the paint and stayed with our 3-point shooters,’’ Anthony said. “They made that adjustment. We didn’t make the adjustment back to it.’’

It amazes me that people can't see what our real problem is.

As a head coach you evaluate your players on what they do well and protect them from doing things they aren't good at.

When a coach out coaches you where is your pride to put the players in the best position to win games.

Lionel Hollins plz come to NY!

It amazes me that this team is playing near the level the statistical projections indicated and people are so surprised
