For some, the 2015 offseason is suppose to be when the Knicks right the wrongs of their past and finally build a true contender around Melo. I use to consider myself apart of the group but not anymore. That market of free agents is beginning to dry up and one of the last, low-hanging fruits will probably get traded during this season or during the offseason.
As much as I love Rondo's game, the likelihood of Danny Ainge letting him become an unrestricted free agent in 2015 is slim to none. More likely than not, Rondo gets traded to the Pistons in exchange for either Greg Monroe or Andre Drummond as the principles. I suspect that the actual deal will be Andre Drummond, Charlie Villanaueva (expirer), Brandon Jennings and Jonas Jerebko for Rajon Rondo, Jeff Green and Gerald Wallace. It makes too much sense for it not to happen.
First off, Joe Dumars is on the hotseat and needs to make a splash to turn his season around. The Josh Smith-Greg Monroe-Andre Drummond trio is clearly not working and one of those guys needs to be traded. Josh Smith's trade value is too low; Greg Monroe will be a free agent and will command top dollar, which is unappealing to a rebuilding team like Boston; leaving Drummond as the guy that would interest the Celtics the most from that group. Second, Josh Smith is close friends with Rondo from their AAU days, so I suspect that the relationship will help Rondo to endorse the deal and stay in Detriot long term.
For the Celtics, they need to dump salary and Rajon Rondo is clearly the ticket to doing so. I don't think Dumars would balk at talking back bad contracts like Gerald Wallace and Jeff Green because he has a penchant for doing that anyway. More importantly, Green and Wallace fill a position of need for the Pistons moving forward. Brandon Jennings doesn't fit the motiff of a rebuilding team but I think he does have some value around the league and the Celtics clearly need a PG in the interim.
Anyway, the point of all of this is to point out that Rondo is never going to be a Knick and that is something we should consider when deciding how to build our roster from this point, onward.

I don't see why Boston has to dump salary. They're over the cap but under the luxury tax this season at $70M. Next year they're way under the cap at $46M. Also, just because they trade Rondo doesn't mean we couldn't still sign him in free agency; he would still have the same contract. And, I would expect if he was traded to Detroit he would definitely hit free agency because I have no idea why he would want to resign there.

Boston is not compelled to dump salary for luxury tax purposes but I would imagine that attendance rates will take a hit with the team being shitty. The NBA is a business first and I think management will want to get their payroll as low as possible to maximize their profits, while they still can.
Also, yes, the Knicks could theoretically sign Rondo in 2015, after he is traded to another team but I don't think he'd allow himself to become a free agent at that point. That Pistons team would be really good with a healthy Rondo, especially considering how shitty the East is. Rondo at PG, Stuckey at SG, Jeff Green at SF, Josh Smith at PF and Greg Monroe at C could make some serious noise moving forward. That to me would be more appealing than a bare roster with only Melo and a few million left to spend to add other players.
rondo will come back and then get hurt within 8 months and miss an extended period of time. stay away from guards with knee injuries...they will always get hurt again.

What about Derrick Ro.....never mind. But in all seriousness, CP3 has had a bunch of leg injuries and he's doing fine. I think that it depends on the individual.
Well get ready, the Knicks want him. Primarily cos he already tore his acl
Don't want him anyways. But then again I have no idea who we should target. Maybe have a year under the cap and take on salary in exchange for picks.
How about we finally draft a oh with our lottery pick next year? Who knows maybe options at pg are better than in this years draft
East won't always be lousy.
DJ is right about aging guards who rely on crazy quickness and can't shoot and have a history of knee problems.
Rondo don't get traded unless a prenegotiated extension is worked out.
If we do this we dig a bigger hole down the line. Its what we do best, just keep piling on the starphuch.
This fallacy that capspace is savior don't really work unless you can grab "Linsanity" type players who are playing above their payscale and the team can't afford to resign them without penalty.
Can't see knicks being patient and using cap space wisely. But there is a new hope because Mills is not a basketball guy and that might speak t a rational approach.
Naw!!!!!!!!!
