It's really the only viable plan. Surprised this hasn't been posted before.
skeng @ 1/21/2014 8:36 PM
I've been thinking the same - that we should be able to swing whatever value we get from Clips into 1st RD picks.

But is DJ and Dudley worthy of that OKC package?

And I'm not seeing Denver trading for Felton TBH. Fatton will be soooo pissed if he gets traded to Denver again. Would love to have Miller.. dude never gets injured.

I like your Melo deal.

Silverfuel @ 1/21/2014 9:20 PM
With Melo, Chris Paul and Blake, their 1st rd picks are not going to be that high. Why are you giving up Melo for late 1st round rejects? What have you seen in our drafts in the last 10 years that leads you to believe we can make draft picks count?

Well, we could parlay the 2014 LAC & OKC picks into one higher pick in 2014, possibly even top 15. It's all relative. And in 2015 we will have space for at least one max contract and a couple of stud players. So while we are in reboot mode this year and next, it's not a foregone conclusion that we will suck for the next 25 years...

...then again, if Dolan still owns this team, anything is possible.

I think the Clips love Jordan. Whenever I watch them they are talking how much improvement he has made in his game since Doc became coach. Would love to get him though.

Draft picks might be the only thing we get right. Sure, we consistently miss the best player available but at least we get players that are serviceable.

LOL at trading Felton to Denver...again.

he'd probably retire at just the thought.

Allanfan20 @ 1/22/2014 3:19 PM
If Melo is threatening to leave then I am all for trading him for any assets or expirings, so long as they are off the books by after next season. Any picks should be fine.

Melo is NOT a move without the ball/fast break player. He can take over games when his team needs it but I don't necessarily see the Clippers becoming super elite by getting Melo playing with Chris Paul, who also needs the ball in his hands. How does this make Blake Griffin more effective? I would do that trade because if anything, I can see the Clippers getting maybe slightly worse. Just as we got slightly worse when we first traded for Melo.

He should be happy to have a job in the NBA. He will be out of the league shortly

The 2 2014 late first round picks should be drafted with the hope of them being productive role players. 2015(top 5 pick) would be the draft to nab someone who could be a 1st-3rd option. Along with free agency to land 2 more players who can be 1st-3rd options. Plus money left over to sign another decent player. If Hardaway can become a solid 4th option, and the 2 2014 first rd picks can become solid role players then you have a team set up for a long time. This isn't even counting Shump being resigned as a contributer or moved for other assets.

Disclaimer: This trade isn't about me wanting to get rid of Melo, but if Melo does want out or Melo does want an extention that will earn him 30mil by the time he is 34 then I wouldn't mind us looking into moves like this. I also know that its not realistic that the Knicks would trade Melo only for draft picks without looking to Starphuch for someone else. So Jordan, Dudley and the picks would turn into Rondo.

VDesai @ 1/23/2014 12:13 AM
The Knicks need to get about a half dozen picks for Melo, Chandler and Felton, which are their only pieces of any value.
