“That’s the only thing I care about. Everything else is irrelevant to me when it comes to basketball. Championship is the only thing on my mind. That’s the only thing I want to accomplish, the only thing I want to achieve, and I’m going to do what I got to do to get that.”Not every elite athlete, with the focus on his productivity, can function in New York. Carmelo Anthony has the rare ability to life his game to any ocassion. We would be crazy not to acquire just two players who can hang with him on the court.... one a guard and the other a 6'10 forward with swag.
He would be crazy to leave 30M on the table in the worlds largest media market.
Win here and you are set for life.
That's 3 players taking up roughly $45-50milof a $58mil
You have only $8-13mil to use on the other 12 roster spots
Who do you plan to fill the rest of the roster with? The. You have guys like Hardaway, Murray, JR and Tyler
Yeah but who do you plan to bring in that is Melo level and will take less money?
I like Yellow's idea in the other thread
3way between Portland, Toronto & NY
TYSON to Portland for Lopez & 2015 1st round protected
Then we send , Shumpert & 2015 pick to Toronto for Lowry(we keep our 2015 lottery pick)
Then you resign Melo and sign a quality Center and 2way SF if you plan on leaving Melo at the 4
C
Melo
SF
Hardaway
Lowry
6th: JR
Felton
Murray
Tyler
Melo signs for less to help build around him
Lopez is playing pretty well. I don't think Portland would do that.
I don't know about Lowry. He's definitely better than Felton, but how much better? Is he on par with Chauncey Billups during Melos run to the WCF? If so we should take a sensible risk and snag him. But no 1st round picks.
Other than him, who else? PG is the number 1 problem for the Knicks. I don't know that I'd want to risk the future on Rondo either. It took a special group around him to get the best from him.
Dragic? Don't know if he and Melo would work well together and if he's a title level PG.
If the Knicks want to build around Melo the first thing they should do is get what they can for Tyson. If Toronto wants to take Felton, Shump and MWP for Lowry, I'd say do it. If Boston is listening to offers on Rondo I would only give a pick in 2016, Shump and whoever had to go to make the money work. Although they'd want to dump Wallace on us.
To the point about Melo, he's a special player. It takes many roster cycles to get a guy even close to his level on your team. Ewing was the last guy we had this good. Marbury had potential but he was a head case. If Melo wants to stay, he needs to indicate that to management or he should be traded. We don't have a title team this year so you can't risk losing him for nothing when all you're fighting for is the 8th seed.
It would be portlands protected 1st not our 2015 lottery pick but Bonn is probably right Why would Portland want chandler when Lopez is serviceable and makes a lot less
I wish we had a Serviceable cost efficient center like Lopez not a guy averaging 7&7 and gets sick before every big game

Tyson also isn't the rim protector that he was when the guards get beat by their man. Since he is turned around watching guys go to the basket I have been wondering if it is because he isn't trying anymore.

People don't realize how good Billups was that year. He was 6th in MVP voting and averaged 21 points on 12 shots in the playoffs. No, Lowry isn't that good but Chris Paul is probably the only PG in the league who could possibly do that right now.
I prefer Lowry over rondo that's for sure
Character and injury reasons

Yea...honestly I don't remember and didn't look up his numbers. Is it fair to say Lowry and Billups have similar games?
We can draft a 2way SF or C with out 2015 lottery pick

A lot of people are turned off by Lowry's attitude actually. There's been a lot of talk about his character.
We need to rededicate ourselves to finding players who fit with him. Need to addree the PG position. Either Lowry soon, or Rondo or Dragic next year. Develop Hardaway Jr. as the future SG, he's a great fit with Melo and has a ton of potential. Maybe he can eventually develop the way Afflalo has into a secondary scoring option. Let everyone else expire. Try to bring back Chandler on the cheap for a championship run. Continue to find and develop solid minimum salary pickups like Murray, Tyler, Prigioni, etc. Try to salvage enough cap space to go after 1 major free agent to complete the core. Then we should be good.

but meloser prefers rondo, and if you guys prefer to build around melo.. what are you going to do guns?
No Lowry is a bulldog unlike Felton. He is strong and can penetrate. Good enough plAymaker not great but he can hit an open shot again unlike felton
Billups is the exact opposite

I think if the Knicks got Lowry this season and it worked out then Melo would be happy with him. If it didn't then a S&T could probably be worked out with Boston for Rondo in 2015 with Lowry involved in the deal.

Maybe but not as severe as Rondo's character. I think Lowry would be ok as starter on a winning team and a heck of a lot cheaper than Rondo
Forget Dragic. There is no way Phoenix trades him here
