He nailed it.

Kobe
Nash
Blake
Farmar

Not saying Magic is wrong, but im not sure Phil Jax would be contending with what has happend.

Magic easy to say " we gotta get to a championship level......."

He was talking about the hire as much as the coaching. PJax in LA probably means the Lakers still have D12. Pau and Dwight together with Phil would probably be making a run for the 8 spot while waiting on Kobe and Nash.

This offseason will be interesting to see if Buss keeps D'Antoni. My guess is no.

The Lakers were at .500 before they lost all of their PG's and that was without Kobe. I think it's so easy to blame MDA and run the trope about him not coaching D, but not in this case. How good is the Knicks D when Felton was out there and we had to rely on Beno? You also need players that can defend and know how to defend as opposed to 3rd and 4th stringers who aren't defensive talent and don't know how to do these things at a high level.

It's not like the Lakers have a title contending roster and all that matters is changing out MDA. I think Magic is wrong to come out and bash MDA like this considering the current situation he's working under. It's also a slap in the face to the GM and owner. It also doesn't help at all to make things any better. If Kobe, Blake, Farmer and Xavier Henry were all playing and the team was this bad it would be one thing, but with them hurt all this time that's not fair.

He shouldn't but he might still have Dwight if he fired him last year. Not sure what to expect. He seems to be intent on making the hire work.

I agree about Dwight. When Nash had that freak injury to start last season, things went to caca from there as well. Nash was never the same player post injury from what little Ive seen of him since then. I'm guessing if MDA does stay its going to be be out of Buss not wanting to admit that he should have hired Phil.

WTF!!! Dwight wasn't gonna stay more because of Kobe than MDA no matter what he says. Dwight is full of ISH!!! He acts like he was somehow held back by MDA when in fact it was his piss poor attitude that was the problem:

TEAM GP	GS MIN FGM-A FG% 3PM-A 3P%	FTM-A FT%	OR	DR	REB	AST	BLK	STL	PF	TO	PTS
LAL 76 76 35.8 6.2-10.7 .578 0.0-0.1 .167 4.7-9.5 .492 3.3 9.1 12.4 1.4 2.4 1.1 3.8 3.0 17.1
HOU 47 47 34.0 6.5-11.4 .571 0.0-0.1 .400 5.0-9.5 .522 3.5 9.1 12.6 1.7 1.7 0.9 3.6 3.1 18.1

Yeah MDA really held him back with his style of play!!! Part of the problem was that D12 was coming back off injury and wasn't really at full strength. Rather than accept that he wasn't playing as well as he wanted early on, he blamed the losing on MDA. I'm so tired of the false statements that people actually believe about MDA and his effect on bigs. Pau tries to use the same lame excuses for his poor performances. It's not MDA it's just him. The fact is that MDA just needs a GM to work with him and give it time to work rather than having him coach teams that don't fit. D12 just didn't want to be in LA period!

All said, this would be a horrible roster for any coach including Phil Jackson...I can't fault MDA here...I'll say this is tho, MDA knows one thing, his system...Outside of that, he isn't very good...He has never made the adjustment since leaving PHX..
newyorknewyork @ 1/29/2014 6:41 PM
This is clearly Carmelo's fault, Just like Karl getting let go.

This isn't that unusual. Phil has stuck with the triangle even when his teams were losing and didn't have the personnel to really run it. People just tend to forget that he didn't always have the horses to run that. Some coaches adapt. Popovich adopted a good deal of MDA's system and it's been really good for his team. It all depends on the quality of the relationship between Owner, GM and coach. If they fully commit to MDA and build a team he can win with, they'll win. This is not that team. He's actually done a good job of getting something out of next to nothing. As I said the team was looking decent when they had Blake and Farmer healthy. They were 13-13 at one point, .500 with that roster in the West was a good showing. They started to fall off the map as the PG's got injured. Does that surprise anyone?
