EnySpree wrote:Jimmer Has the same upside as Shump. Neither has done anything but show flashes thus far. Shump has the stage and the minutes and is basically a waste. We could trade for Jimmer and at least have young pg talent in the bank. The knicks currently have enough shooting guard talent with thjr, smith and murry if you factor him in there.
Felton and priggy also find themselves open a lot playing with Melo. Jimmer would be a deadly player out there for us.
It's definitely a game of style of play. Jimmer could fit here, but would Woodson play him?
Shump is not used properly. He needs to be the defensive stopper now and focus on his handling skills over the summer. He also must strengthen his mid range game and drive to the rim. Jimmer will never be able to be a shut down guard, and is always mismatched on the defensive end.

He too was short, slow and white. On a team that knows its roles like Sas and Bulls he played an important role.
We need role players like Novak who were a deep threat and kept defense honest. If JImmer can fill that role at the guard and our coach has a need for that spot then its a good idea.
We got lots of guys who can create their own shot. Thats not our problem.
Unfortunately, this is not the case. We are still looking for the penetration and the pass to an open man for the uncontested shot. All of our points seem to come from jump shots at the last second or drives that start from the top of the key, resulting in a turnover or a difficult shot. We see those slick passes that everyone oohs and ahhs about, but it is usually against us. Please, not another slow footed PG who needs help to get his offense going.

Shumpert is no NBA starter. By using Fredette in a 20 minute role--it can help space the floor better and allow us to play bigger inside. Shumpert is a guy who has lost his way here. I also disagree i.e roll players--if nothing we need to use role players. Jimmer is a great 3 point shooter can handle dish drive and hes not that much different from Pablo on D--with Melo--Jummier would avg 10 points a game in 20 minutes and his eFG would be off the charts here--he is a potential 50% 3 pt shooter.
This would not be a big trde--this is a change of scenery--I have seen us play well--I think subtle changed should be tried--like trading Shumpert for a Jimmer committing to playing Tyler 20+ minutes at PF. We may have to wait and address PG aftre the season---we can look at who is bought out for as well.
Gotta admit, haven't seen much of Jimmer. We do know one thing, his defense is lacking. Same goes for his penetration skills. You may compare him to Reddick, but the truth of the matter is that Reddick's defense and motor rev higher than Jimmer's.

This thread is a spinoff of one i did 2 weeks ago.
I said this when beno asked for a trade. Jimmer gets a change of scenery , Sac gets a veteran
franco12@ 2/4/2014 1:24 PM
Moving Shump for him and maybe an unprotected 2nd rounder back - or if they have any late first rounders from anyone else - not a bad move and I would do it.
I love Shump, and think he can be a good player - he just needs a new coach and start, which isn't happening here this year.
Jimmer clearly isn't part of their long term plans - his minutes per game are down every year.
You might be able to sign him as a FA this summer - I doubt they extend him.

I struggle to find what Kerr's whiteness has to do with anything. Kerr was a dead on shooter. Pure if you will, although undersized and relatively slow.
He also played with some all time greats and in a triangle offense which didn't require much except to be ready to shoot it when the world's greatest decoy (MJ) passed him the rock.
Jimmer isnt the shooter Kerr is, isnt playing in the triangle, can't guard a lamp post and... need I go on? No and no. If he and Shump are a wash, Shump is 6-6 and freakishly athletic. I'd ride that out before I tried with Jimmer.

Looked at his highlights this past January for the Kings. He looks good. He has a little Mark Price in him.
NYKBocker@ 2/4/2014 1:41 PM
How about Fatton and Shump for Jimmer, Aaron Gray and their 2nd RD pick this year. Basically a salary dump for us and get Jimmer and a 2nd rounder.

If we're pulling the plug on Shump, I could get behind that. I don't know if Jimmer alone is that enticing to use one of our few remaining assets on.
SJUknicksfan@ 2/4/2014 1:43 PM
I really don't think Novak or Kerr comparisons are accurate. The difference is Jimmer can get his shot off the dribble, even from 3pt range. He doesn't have to only be a catch and shoot or a guy who can only hit a shot when he's set.

I think the main reasoning for this trade are.. 1. We get a sweet shooting PG that fits the mold for a Melo type PG. 2. We get back rid ourselves of Felton and the remainder of his contract 3. We get an extra 2nd rounder in the early 30s. Early 2nd rounders are nice value picks.
You then use Tyson to rid us of JR Smith.

Hopefully JR's recent play brings his value up a bit. And as long as we're making wishes, hopefully that tiff with Dolan was legit and Boss Man gives the OK to ship him out.

Hes much better than Pablo--not comparable. If we removed Pablo and put in Jimmer--we'd have another guy who can spread the floor--but thats not all he i does. He can play PG and take pressure off of Felton if we play them 1-2. With Carmelo on the floor if you had Jimmer Felton and jR Smith--that would be an awesome offense--we could play fast up and down and Carmelo would have to be guarded 1-1. I dont think defenses even care about Pablo--he doesnt want to shoot and his FG% when he does has dropped. Jimmer would score 10-12 points every game 50% that could change our +- by a nice number. We have a star player we have other scorers--we need pressure off of Felkton and removal of Pablo from the SL. This is potentially how you get a steal on a trade. This is not Russell Westbrook--this is a cheap quality PG/combo guard who fits what we are doing and can be appreciably productive here.
Think about our 3 pt shooting Carmelo Felton JR Smith Hardaway Freddette----this should open up lanes and scoring from drives and inside play as well. I think Shumpert is just not a good fit for the Knicks--it just went south. We need something else--a kick in the arse.

Glen Falls. I really like the guy's game. He can't be any worse than the bums (and Prigioni) that we have.

and to go into the numbers just a tad more with relevance--since they acquired Rudy gay--Jimmer Freddette efg is over 65%. Rudy Gay has been playing at a somewhat similar level to Carmelo--so you can get a jist of what this guy can do with a superstar. Hed get space galore take pressure off of Felton taking Pablos spot and wed be a MUCH more efficient offensive team. Wew play a team style D--our defense is fine its our inconsistent offense that kills us.

The one problem I have with this trade is that Jimmer isn't a point guard. His game has more in common with Jamal Crawford and JR Smith than Chris Paul and Mike Conley. And it does nothing to address our defensive issues at PG. Jimmer is a nice piece, but he is unproven as a starting lead guard. Jimmer is a nice third guard who can score and handle ball handling duties. That's nice to have, but we really need a legit guy who handle the position for the next several years.
