I think he's an obtainable piece and would fit in here well with a Carmelo Anthony team. He's a present day Steve Kerr looking for opportunity and the Knicks are a great fit for him. Hes a floor spreader but he can also drive and dish. Perhaps a swap of Shumpert for Freddette to give each player a new lease on their careers? each is 24 I believe and close in salary. Id replace Pablo P with Jimmer. Jimmer would be better for this team--hes 12 years younger and hes much more aggressive and simply a better player.
the problem is the Jimmer cant play defense. lol. i think his skill set is redundant since we have timmy. basically hes a SG trapped in a PG body
I agree with what Briggs and Ned is saying
i have once said the same exact thing about Redick
just saying...
So maybe in the end, it comes downs to FIT with the TEAM
With the defensive players that could help and cover for you and recover with length/mobility/athleticism
i actually though Jimmer was ahead of Redick when they both entered the league as rookies
You can't trade Shump for a guy who is almost out the league ..Can't create his own shot or guard anyone..Novak 2.0
I agree he's intriguing but I wouldn't give them Shump. As disappointing as he is his ceiling is higher than Fredette. Even though he plays for a crap team there must be some reason he has been warming the bench for his entire career. Plus he is horrid on D. I'd give the Kings a lowball offer and see what happens and save Shump for a deal to a team that thinks they may be able to harness whatever potential he may have left in the tank.
Right now Knicks do not have any pgs that can play offense or play D so having a pg that can do at least one of those things would be ok, I guess. I have not seen him play this year so I really can't judge.
Jimmer Has the same upside as Shump. Neither has done anything but show flashes thus far. Shump has the stage and the minutes and is basically a waste. We could trade for Jimmer and at least have young pg talent in the bank. The knicks currently have enough shooting guard talent with thjr, smith and murry if you factor him in there.
Felton and priggy also find themselves open a lot playing with Melo. Jimmer would be a deadly player out there for us.
It's definitely a game of style of play. Jimmer could fit here, but would Woodson play him?
Our stable of PGs and SGs stinks. I would be willing to take a chance on a guy like Jimmer.

absolutely. i know you watch as much college ball as i do bro.. we could use a kid like this, yes, he's been awful for the kings, but watching him in college, if used right and given the opportunity i think he could be a good player. he CAN create his own shot (no matter what anyone says), can shoot lights out and play a little pg. yes, his defense is going to suck, but ill live with it if he spreads the floor and produces offensively.

Maybe it was just me but I always thought that Jimmer's lack of athleticism was much ado about nothing. The kid is fine athletically, just like JJ Redick was (even though he still gets that knock). All Jimmer needs is a change in scenery and he'll be fine. I want him on this team.
I wouldn't give up Shumpert for Fredette but I'd certainly trade an empty contract for him.
Send them JR Smith. Anything to get rid of that fool
Kerr fit a system and filled in a role.
He too was short, slow and white. On a team that knows its roles like Sas and Bulls he played an important role.
We need role players like Novak who were a deep threat and kept defense honest. If JImmer can fill that role at the guard and our coach has a need for that spot then its a good idea.
We got lots of guys who can create their own shot. Thats not our problem.
We don't need role players, we need real players, starters..Our team is festered with backups..We have one, maybe two NBA starters...And u can't count on Tyson for the playoffs...Trade for needs, wants will come later..
One thing jimmer has going for him that shump doesn't he can put the ball in the hole... Another thing is it would be a dream come true for a kid from glens falls ny to play for the Knicks and be close to family.. It would elevate his game... He'll take time like reddick but he can be a more productive Pablo p
We can also use the "I'm Coming Home" promo again.
I said in the past that Jimmer upside is Randy Foye, offensively and defensively. The problem with Jimmer is that he will not get playing time under Woody unless players get injured. Beno actually provides the same thing that Jimmer does right now and we see where he is.
Looking at his numbers Jimmer doesn't get that much playing time but his usg is very high. I would worry about how he would do with a lot of minutes because his iffense is not great enough to take away from his poor D. He is playing with some great talent and a good post passer in Cousins already so its not like much will change for him.
In the off eseason I would suggest that they need to sign Scottie Wilbekin(UF) as a UFA. He is an elite defender that can shoot the 3 off the dribble and as a spot up shooter. I think he is Patrick Beverly clone. He needs some seasoning but I think he will excell in a more free system but Donavan's system is heavy PnR. Actually if I wasn't a UF fan I think he is a coach that should be sought after. Orlando almost had him but thankfully he had a change of heart.

Kerr was a fit, because he was surrounded by lock down defensive players. The Bulls always had 3 or more solid defensive players on the floor. And they had the right coaching scheme to mask their deficiencies.
If we add Kerr to this current team, there will be threads created about Kerr's lack of defense, creating his own shot and lack of athleticism.
Novak has more value than Jimmer or Kerr (for this team). Novak is a shooter that plays PF. Most PF / Centers like to guard the paint. Novak opens the floor for players like Melo and JR. Jimmer will not have that same impact and will eventually be out casted with this current team. Now, if we rebuild, then sure....but it depends on the current team makeup and this current team is full of too many holes for Jimmer to fill.

Shumpert is no NBA starter. By using Fredette in a 20 minute role--it can help space the floor better and allow us to play bigger inside. Shumpert is a guy who has lost his way here. I also disagree i.e roll players--if nothing we need to use role players. Jimmer is a great 3 point shooter can handle dish drive and hes not that much different from Pablo on D--with Melo--Jummier would avg 10 points a game in 20 minutes and his eFG would be off the charts here--he is a potential 50% 3 pt shooter.
This would not be a big trde--this is a change of scenery--I have seen us play well--I think subtle changed should be tried--like trading Shumpert for a Jimmer committing to playing Tyler 20+ minutes at PF. We may have to wait and address PG aftre the season---we can look at who is bought out for as well.

Doesn't matter that Novak was power forward height, he could easily be guarded by a SG.

Shump is not used properly. He needs to be the defensive stopper now and focus on his handling skills over the summer. He also must strengthen his mid range game and drive to the rim. Jimmer will never be able to be a shut down guard, and is always mismatched on the defensive end.
