Knicks · Woodson in trouble (page 2)

NYY1NYK2 @ 2/5/2014 1:55 PM
No one is expecting perfection from woodson but if you put melo at the 3,copeland at the 4, chandler at the 5 then hibbert has no help D from david west, because west has to step out to guard copeland.
I would put Iman shumpert on lillard. And seeing that metta world peace is an idiot who commits tick tack fouls with 3 secs before half time i tell him to give me 6 HARD FOULS and let him piss off aldridge and lillard. its aggravating to see a player get blown by time and time again, a hard foul makes you think twice about going back into the paint

If we were going to fire him, he should have been weeks ago. Whats the point in waiting until it's too late to make the playoffs? Thats why I think he's here all season long...

Pretty much this. If he didn't get fire after failing to call a timeout at the end of the Wizards game with the ridiculous excuse that "it all happened so fast" (what if that were a playoff game?), then I don't see him getting fired at all. He's going until the end of the season.

He should have been fired after getting embarrassed by Vogel in the Indiana series last year

gunsnewing - Did Vogel and Woodson go one-on-one last year?

Or was it Tyson Chandler vs Roy Hibbert?

Who had Lance Stepehnson?

if woodson doesn't matter in any of that, then why do you care if he's kept?

nyk4ever - please point out any passage where The Answer Man scribbled that Mike Woodson should be kept. Please. In terms of issues and decisions facing the franchise, the head coach is the least important.

You wanna sign Melo or trade him for spare parts?

A head coach is as good as his players (and politics).

Unless it solves guarding Damian Lillard, firing Mike Woodson is not an answer to any issue that gets us closer to the Eastern Conference Finals.

It just ain't.

Mike Woodson is far from perfect. There are no excuses being manufactured for him. The simple fact is that the most essential position on the court is manned-down by a player who is quite possibly he lowest ranked in the league, in terms of his ability to dominate any opponent.

You think Tyson Chandler was dominated by Hibbert in the playoffs due to Woodsons direction, or a mismatch in ability?

You wanna put someone on Damian Lillard tonight?

Who?

Shump.

misterearl @ 2/5/2014 3:14 PM
Moonangie - Cool. you got it. Shump guards Lillard. Who is guarding Wesley Matthews?

"...watch out for Matthews in the corner on this and other actions. He’s third in the league on successful corner 3s this season and is hitting them at a 47.6 percent clip. Matthews has also become a wily, backdoor threat from that spot. With the Trail Blazers moving side to side so fluidly, help decisions become infinitely more difficult because, if you’re a defender, it’s hard to know if you’re leaving the weakside corner when the weak side keeps shifting.

Matthews can’t dominate every defender, but he has gotten pretty adept at sniffing out where he might have an edge. He loves to post smaller (Felton alert) defenders, and, against a defender who’s a pick magnet, Matthews will move to an open spot on the weak side. That’s the nice thing about Matthews -- he’s always been aware that caginess would have to be a strong attribute because there probably wasn't enough raw talent most nights."

Murray, while not a play maker yet, should be getting minuted for his defense alone.

MSG3 - The Ansswer Man digs Murry as much as the average bear, but do you really want to entrust your offense to a player who does not respond well to defensive pressure?

Are we not New York, home of the elite point guard?

Portland spells trouble.

I agree with you, but the net affect of Feltons limited play making abilities this year with his lousy D vs. Murray's unpolished play making ability and capable D probably favors Murray taking minutes from Felton. Especially on nights we go against Lillard, Wall, etc.

we are 2-11 against superior teams listed below. another loss tonight pretty much cinches it so far as playoff annihilation. lets hope they don't embarrass themselves on national tv.

miami
indiana
okc
lac
houston
san antonio
portland

He really struggled the last time he had meaningful minutes and was pressured. Woodson has reason to not have him in there as that didn't seem to be something that would be fixed very quickly. Woodson like most coaches is slow to trust rooks but quick to lose that trust when they mess up, especially when they are the 15th man. I think after starting Cope in game ` of the Celts series last year and seeing how the moment seemed to big, coupled with Cope not scoring a point in that series led to Woodson not being as quick to go to him in the Pacers series. Also, Woodson definitely deserves criticism but he has to be the most criticized coach for how he handles his undrafted rookie 15th men.
GustavBahler @ 2/5/2014 5:15 PM
Woodson deserved another season after 54 wins and all the injuries, but I see a team that looks like its tuning Woody out for the most part. Doesn't matter who is to blame, its usually the coach who is going to be held responsible. If there was a young coach on the sidelines Id say give him a chance, but Herb?

MSG3 - you have a valid point. Especially if you value defense over offense. Murry being handed the keys could be helped by allowing THjr to handle the ball in the backcourt... next, Melo in emergencies.

Felton may be overwhelmed by what Portland can throw at him defensively.

Our offense has no rhythm, which makes our shot production a chore, rather than a joy to behold. Felton stops, makes passes while standing still, and the shot clock is already under ten.

Can we live with Murry's turnovers until he learns the league?

This seems to suggest that Woodson is on his way out before the All Star break. I highly doubt anyone outside the organization is coming in as the interim unless they get a 3-4 year deal. But the only guys I can think of are Stan and Jeff Van Gundy. Who else makes sense? Not George Karl.

PHIL JACKSON!!!!!

fitzfarm @ 2/5/2014 6:24 PM
yes! woodson has to be feeling the heat he's got to do something to save his job if he dose not change things up he will be outta here before the trade deadline. also felton is the worst pg period. he's looking like he was on portland and by the end of that season he was rotting on the bench... it really was a head scratcher when we signed him.. should have kept lin, he would have panned out better in nyc then houston
fitzfarm @ 2/5/2014 6:26 PM
free murry, felton turns the ball over too.. and murry actually has better court vision and can get to the hoop.

Woodson does not make adjustments, and when he makes them it is WAY TOO LATE. Shouldve played copeland, by the time he did it was like 5 mins left in game 5.
Shouldve bench JR for his stupid antics, by the time he did, the team lost respect for him.

Better yet, the game we lost earlier in the year for not fouling when we had the foul to give
Sticking with felton after felton gets beat time and time again
OR WHAT PISSES ME OFF THE MOST, when feltons hand was fractured or broken or whatever it was, and seeing him CLEARLY STRUGGLE GAME AFTER GAME and letting him play 40 MINS a night.

the only play woodson draws up is called ISO-MELO. EVERYONE STAND AROUND AND WAIT.....KEEP WAITING.....IF you get the rebound....GIVE IT BACK TO MELO....

He's clueless and so is MISTEREARL

Papabear Says

What happened with Milwaukee?? It seems to me they were throwing up bricks all night. If I was Woody I'd be affraid to draw up a plan for these guys. They can't shoot.

RonRon @ 2/5/2014 11:39 PM
The team needs motivation and a place to blame on someone if they want to still try to compete for a spot this year

It might not be all his fault but he does deserve a lot of blame,

but in all honestly, he really is a horrible coach, makes horrible decisions, horrible lineups, and very stubborn

Thing is should we be focused on this year's "POSSIBLE" playoff run or the near future success of the team?
Because we have to make a decision before the deadline what we want to do

Is Melo Opting out?
Does he want to leave?
Is he only staying on a max contract?

Dolan and his "TEAM should have made a decision by now that he hired"

regardless, we should get rid of Felton and at least Chandler with Tyler here, I think we can make up for their minutes especially Chandlers with the way

Tyler and STAT have been playing and Melo at the 4 being his best spot

Marcala12 @ 2/5/2014 11:54 PM
he did some good things with the team when he was interim coach and he was good last year. But this year is a train wreck and part of that is on him. Letting him go now would be fine, but it's unlikely to change much. A big name coach might not want to come until Stat, Chandler, and Bargs come off the books. I'd hate to settle for someone mediocre between now and then.
