Knicks · Our weakest links: Tyson, Shump and Felton (page 1)

If there is a trade to be made where all 3 can go we absolutely need to get it done...

We don't want Melo taking all the shots but then we start 4 guys next to him that are all offensively challenged. Makes no sense.

The okc deal is fan and blogger generated...

I mentioned Atlanta here many times. Maybe pheonix or charlotte want to make a deal surrounding their expiring contacts. Maybe the Lakers.

The aftermath should result in a coaching change and someone making use of the talent left over.

Tyler, amare, melo, murry, thjr smith, cole....lets go already

either way the knicks arent going anywhere anyway. 2015 is the only time we have cap space

As long as we get adequate PG play, Tyson will give about a point every 3 minutes. His scoring is good for a center. I don't mind trading him though.

The problem is just that. We can't rely on a player that needs a good point guard to be effective. we are trying to win games not help a singular player fit better.

What tyson brings is a myth and the same could be said of Shump. If they were what their mythology aid they were we would be a 3rd seed in the east.

Asking Melo to wait for 2015 when there's a whole season agead of that one is very unsmart to be nice.

That's why I say we need to see if we can move guys now for expirings. Show Melo we want him. If he still leaves then at least we have a fantastic Foundation to build with.

Well then you address the problem - get a better PG. I mean, I hope for Tyson's sake we trade him. I'm sure he didn't realize what he was getting himself into when he signed here.
Shumpert's never even been a double digit or an efficient scorer, let alone both.
holfresh @ 2/11/2014 7:41 PM
We have 4 guys in the starting lineup who can't score..

I think this whole team needs a point guard. That is the main reason we suck.

Please stop apologizing for a Tyson ..He has been a huge disappointment..He doesn't always play hard..He dogs it..He didn't know what he was getting into??..Playing hard and earning his 14 mil per year??

Agree and as the thread says three of them need to go. I would prioritize moving Shump and Tyson. Both guys seem to be getting worse and at least Tyson is causing troubles in the locker room. Move Tyson while some still believe he has something and is valuable.
tj23 @ 2/11/2014 8:12 PM
I'd still like to develop Shump off the bench but Ray and Tyson need to be moved. They are both nothing but liabilities.

you presume a great deal, ie we have a healthy core to build around. you need solid two-way players to win. who among the knicks are solid two-way players?

and let's begin with the highest salaried players first...

this should be a good exercise for knicks fans.

Dirk won and wasn't a two way player..Bird..

Tyson most puzzling to me. Has his game slipped, or, did he look better than he truly was as part of a great team in Dallas? With this team, can go long minutes where he is seemingly invisible. Player? team around him?

Dallas relied on him to be an energy guy. He didn't even pay the large amount of minutes he plays with us. That's the problem. Also Tyson lost a step due to injury and illness. He has no basic fundamentals to fall back on. You could see that in international play. He ducked in the olympics and they barely played him even though he was the only true center.

Of course, I wish he still had the energy he had when he was 27. The Knicks got an all-star and DPOY year out of him. They should have realized that by the time he was in his thirteenth and fourteenth seasons he'd be slowing down. How many championship players in their 13th season would be motivated to play on a .390 team? How many 7'1" guys even last thirteen years?

Actually, scratch the bold part. He's still giving about a point every 3 min.
He's not the player he used to be but he's still giving a point and a rebound almost every 3 min. You can't lump him with an NBDL guy like Shumpert who does nothing right.

Championship players are motivated by pride of their play and leadership not by the standings..He did contributed Dallas' success but he was in the right place at the right time..U can't teach height, Jason Collins lasted 14 years..

RonRon @ 2/12/2014 7:35 AM
not only do we have to pay a higher price at this point to trade for Lowry (1st round pick, 2 young prospects, and likely no salary dump like with Fetlton, MWP/Pablo, but we would also give leverage to Lowry to a 8-12m contract extension in order to keep him

ALL while we have no indication if Melo will stay or walk, it is a big price, and high risk to take to be able to contend this year
And most importantly will effect our chances in building a core in 2015, instead of getting back picks, development of young players, and if we resigned Melo and Lowry, that will be our core, with little room to get a 3rd STAR much less ALL STAR since they would add up to about 40m of the 60m in able to use in a 12 man roster

Without getting rid of Felton, JR, and Pablo, adding in the salary cap hold for 12 man roster we have little room to improve
Tyler and Tim Hardaway JR have shown some potential and are keepers that can be part of our future
If this happens, we give total leverage to Melo, Lowry, and future deals *that we will make, redoing the same mistakes we have done after trading for Melo* both of which would be in the early 30's

But Dolan is expected to repeat what he has done with H20, the deal for Melo (turning Melo and Amare to an older Melo and Lowry instead)
With 40m of cap room, you can sign Kevin Love (17m), Dragic (8-10m) or Lin (4-5m), and Rudy Gay at (8-15m), with the possibility of even getting all 4 similar talents instead of just Melo and Lowry
In addition, we would likely have a top 5 pick in 2015 if we decided to tank for 1.5 seasons in 2015, instead of staying mediocre

We will not be even in good enough to contend vs The Pacer's if we indeed decide to keep Melo at a max extension and trading for Lowry (and resigning him at 10m)

Like I said many times earlier, if we Melo doesn't opt out this summer, and is willing to recruit in 2015 (possibly taking a little bit less) we would still be able to build a core with Melo that would be a championship contender, however, it just isn't financially possible if Melo wants that max extension this summer
However, if he gets an opt out, in 2016, I don't mind if Dolan pays him a max contract AFTER we are able to build a core/foundation of a team

So championship players are heroes who in a 2 decade career are never influenced by their surroundings?
He already has the ring and a nice number of individual awards. It's only going to be a few "haters" who remember his career for being a low energy guy in his 13th season.
