Knicks · ALL STAR GAME (page 1)

One thing I noticed Melo did so well just being a catch and shoot player.

His handle can't create against great talent.

matt @ 2/16/2014 11:48 PM
or he just doesn't want to risk any sort of injury. However, his best play of the night might be this:

Melo showed he doesn't always need the ball in his hands to be effective.

He gave up the rock when he had to, and put himself in position to receive the rock to score.

GREAT showing by Melo tonight.

It also shows Melo is well respected by other stars. He Broke a record tonight.

All the stars know each other. There's no real hatred by anyone there so they have fun and it shows. They all know what each other can do so they go out there and go for it. A lot of great combos out there. One in particular is Kyrie and LeBron. They work really well together.

As far as Melo, the east players were looking for him and Melo was calm cool and nonchalant. He makes scoring 30 look so easy. Kyrie and Melo both had 30 but Kyrie had to do a lot of work. Melo barely broke a sweat. Also it shows how Woodson is killing Melo. Too much isolation when Melo is so much more effective when he's getting the rock and allowed to make moves in open space. Melo works too hard as a knick and he's dead tired at the end of games because of it. We can't blame not having point guard. Our system and coaching sucks. If we could get Melo playing the way he played last night or at least the way he played in denver, we'd be alright. We need to get him better touches where he can waste minimal energy to save him for why we got him. ..... to close out games in the 4th quarter.

Even the Indiana coach knew that. He saved Melo until 7 minutes left and Melo was clutch down the stretch. Kicks need to wake up

So you are saying he should've bought into Dantoni? Instead of letting his immaturity dictate the the style of play of ISO Melo which Woodson was the perfect coach for. Works great against shitty teams but playoffs are different

holfresh @ 2/17/2014 6:46 AM
I guess Gasol, DHow and Kobe didn't buy in either..A good coach should be able to adapt to his players and put them in the best situation to utilize their skills..See Pat Riley..
gunsnewing @ 2/17/2014 7:10 AM
Yea man that's exactly what Melo needs a real coach who will play to his strengths. A coach with rings who is no nonsense and gets stars to buy into a winning concept. Riley, Jackson, Popovich etc

I disagree. Melo doesn't need to be coached. It's the rest of the guys. Woodson starts nelo with 4 guys that can't score. Nuff said cuz they can't pay defense either. We run no plays and we have no offensive or defensive philosophy.

The knicks need a hungry coach that can use what he has. Like Vogal, like doc rivers, like rick adelman, like Thibs, monty Williams, Mark Jackson. .... Stan van gundy stands out to me.

We don't need a system coach or a coach that yells for no reason. So no scott skiles please

Melo isn't above being coached. yes he can score but he does have other weaknesses in other parts of his game to be fair

I agree with everything you said. Good coaching, good PG and good players around him. He needs all 3 and they are not mutually exclusive. Amare doesn't defend, tyson gives you nothing offensively and is always sick and our PGs have been dogshit before and after Lin. This is New York Knicks basketball. Boy they sure know how to put a winning roster together. Yeaaaah riiight

I like your list of coaches. Not sure if a Van Gundy coaches again in msg. I wonder if Adelman would take a head job again. I think his wife is ill. If he would I think he would be a great choice. I like the other guys mentioned but they all have jobs.
gunsnewing @ 2/17/2014 9:01 AM
Or we can try to find our own Franklin Vogel

our problem isn't melos weaknesses.... is the fact Woodson can't maximize the potential of the team he has. We are in no shape to even compete because of it.

A coaches job is to get his players playing together in a system where they all can suceed. Melo can score under any circumstances you can put in front of him. So no matter what its not something that's going to effect him. The team needs to be organized around his abilities.

To add woodson is just forcing Melo to go Hero every time we can't score. This is why Melo is in his first losing season ever. It's not his fault cuz the coach is forcing him to do everything and that's where we are falling

Marcala12 @ 2/17/2014 9:03 AM
it's mostly on Woodson, but some of it is on Melo too. at the end of games he gets the ball between the three point line and the half court line - no pick, no play, no catch and shoot. Pure Isolation, giving the defense every possible advantage since he's a damn power forward trying to Iverson his way to a shot. It's ridiculous; there's literally no worse way to have him try and score. And that is def. on Woodson, but if Melo said something like, "this crap isn't working, i don't want to do iso's from 35 feet out from the basket in crunch time," I can't see Woodson forcing the issue.

As others have said, if we had an elite coach, Melo's opinion wouldn't even matter. The only iso's he'd get would be in the low post when he has the right matchups. He can get his there and he could find others for open shots when the double team comes. But the goal should be to get Melo easy catch and shoot baskets; that's when he's his most deadly and that will keep him fresh for the end of games.

We have to get the right coach in the offseason.

playa2 @ 2/17/2014 9:10 AM
When have the sports reporters asked Woodson about his offensive set strategies and why does it always end up in Melo's hands? They don't even touch it , because they know Woodson wants and needs a job so he caves into the best player wants.

That's why the team didn't like one another and Shumpert was mad at the coach for sometime INCLUDING HIS DEFENSIVE ROTATIONS.

If Melo fights the coach then he loses. He's the villain. He's just playing and taking the pressure on himself.

Also how can a player tell the coach how to coach. When this happens that means it's time to get another coach

Everybody is friends at an all-star game, it's a privilege to be there.

Real coaches and good NBA playoff defenses cancel out Iso Melo so it's not as effective.

Knixkik @ 2/17/2014 9:46 AM
As soon as we get a true PG that can create and allow Melo to be more of a spot up shooter, we will become a great team. A good Pg turns us into a good team and a great pg turns us into a great team.
knicks1248 @ 2/17/2014 9:47 AM
knicks need to get kyrie, it's just a matter of time before he wants out of cleveland like every player who plays there. That franchise will never be more then just a playoff team.
