Knicks · OT: Raymond Felton is Being Divorced (page 1)

I usually hate these stories that pry into players' personal life but maybe this can give us perspective on why Felton sucks so much this season. It must be hard having a woman walk out on you, especially the one you made a commitment to.

Been married 25 yrs and can't imagine what a divorce would be like. Still dude has money and he's relatively young. Shouldn't be hard to find companionship to take the pain away. It's not a good excuse for playing as bad as he's been.

Depends on how long and how many kids and who she's divorcing him for.

All of that could effect how you play if (mentally)you can't separate the two.

awww mann.... I honestly feel like an ass. I have KILLED this guy all year and this explains a lot. I was married 8+ years w/ 2 kids when I went through a divorce. I was playing hardball and it was my worst summer. I was in incredible shape. I spent all my time in the gym working out looking for some mental escape from all the emotional BS that was killing me from the divorce. I was sooo amped for that season and it was my worst. Physically I was ready, but mentally I was shot. I *thought* I was locked in, but in hindsight it was impossible be locked in. Somethings are just too big. I struck out more than ever. I used to bat 3rd or 4th and I dropped myself to 7th because I just wasnt performing.

Sucks.... Ray's been a lousy PG but he's a good guy. Hope he finds some peace soon with this. Took me a year AFTER it was all settled to feel like things were normal again.

gunsnewing @ 2/19/2014 9:25 AM
Is this why he couldn't guard a pole last year either?

Yea Fish people who aren't married might not understand the covenant once it's dissolved will have a emotional and psychological effect on your attitude and personality and in this case performance.

I wonder if his teammates knew of this and because of it cut him some slack ?

it would make sense... also puts the Knicks in a lousy spot. You have a guy who is underperforming, but trading him in the middle of a divorce is a lousy move.

Its the curse of Jeremy Lin.

Bonn1997 @ 2/19/2014 9:46 AM
I feel sorry for him on a personal level.
He really wasn't a good player even when his marriage was stable though. You could say he was a little less bad.
Vmart @ 2/19/2014 9:55 AM
Divorce or not the fact remains the same Felton just isn't that good. Was he getting divorced in Denver and Portland? Besides divorce can be looked at as a bad thing or something good. How do we know Ray isn't doing flips about being divorced or sulking in a corner somewhere.

I have known people that said getting a divorce was the greatest thing in the world and some who blame themselves for it and sulk.

regardless its going to be a distraction.... I think thats just the gist.
nyk4ever @ 2/19/2014 10:06 AM
some of the remarks on here are pretty pathetic. ray felton plays basketball, we watch his games because he plays for our team. if you can't feel for someone on a human-level because of his "poor-play" on the basketball court then you seriously suck at life.

To his defense, they were not glazed.

and it looks like he just got served - which could be what woke him up last night!

This actually might be good for Raymond.

fishmike @ 2/19/2014 10:40 AM
ok ok... I pictured a scene where he was married long time, had kids, got whacked... etc etc.

Not that this doesnt hurt, but hopefully for his sake its not the demoralizing life changing stuff you deal with when a family gets split up.

This whole org is such a mess!

NYKBocker @ 2/19/2014 10:40 AM
Gotta give Fatton props though...she is hot
tkf @ 2/19/2014 10:40 AM
I always said, ray may be a good guy, just a limited ball player.. But I can understand how something like this can affect his play on the court. Basketball is also a mental game, and I am sure he is going through a lot...

not married that long...

I was just gonna say -- I remember watching part of the ceremony online somewhere for a few mins.. Sad. Bad year for this poor guy all around I guess.

I honestly think this is maybe what woke Raymond up last night.

He needs to be aggressive and angry like Shump was for a few games - he just needs to get angry and stop feeling sorry for himself.

Play like last night for the remainder of the season, we have an outside shot at making the 8th seed.
