Knicks · Woj: Knicks, Clippers talking Shump for Darren Collison (page 5)

That's fine. Just make a deal without Felton. We can get rid of him later on. Point is we get a starting caliber PG for a SG who we will not keep long-term. Felton can possibly excel in a limited role as a combo guard off the bench. We upgrade the position and don't skip a beat at the SG position.

collison is a no brainer as a starter here..
Shump would thrive on that team with CP3 and Doc Rivers coaching him.
he should... but CP3 is not going to be shooting for shumpert and playing with him is no magic elixir.... I don't think shumperts problem is getting good looks or shots.. but actually making them.. but we will see..
All I know is that Shump will not do anything for the Knicks. He may become a star in LA but here in NY he refuses to become a star or a good player. This guy has been underperforming by choice and that doesn't sit well with me and shouldn't sit well with any fan.
How do you know that? and how can you saye, HE refuses to become a star?
I say it because I have seen Shump play. I was impressed enough by his play to say he will be a 17-5-5 player. Ever since summer league he has been having a hissy fit. How does he bust out in the new year and go back to being a non factor. There more to Shump and believe it or not he wants off the knicks.
Shump excels as a PG....That was his position in college. And thats when he performed best under MDA. When you make him an off guard in a half court system, it limits him to just a jumpshooter, which he is not. He's a playmaker that needs the ball in his hands to be affective. This is why he was compared to Wade, because he's the same way. Wade is not a jumpshooter, but rather a playmaker who can score.
When and if he ever develops a consistant jumper, he will be a solid SG. But for now, he will only excel in a fast pace, up and down west coast system. Not this slow it down (dump it to Melo) half court system....
I've always been a Shump fan and always will be a fan of two way players aka Wilson Chandler, but he just doesn't fit the current system under Woodson....Which will change once we change coaches, but thats another discussion thread. For now, THj is a better catch and shoot player for Woody's half court "Iso Melo" system. And trading Shump will only open up more minutes for THj.
Whats funny is we tried to turn Shump into a THj type of shooter. Now we will try to turn THj into a two way defensive player like Shump. New Yorkers are never happy......

One theory regarding his breakout out west was that udrih was starting and that Felton doesn't set shump up right. The other theory I have heard is that shump lifts before games while other guys are working on their shot.

Agree. Both guys have upside. Collision was amazing filling in for Paul in Nola. He also looked good while Paul was out with his 'little' shoulder injury.

Excels as a PG? I always thought he made bad decisions with the ball, constantly not knowing where he is going or what he is doing. Doesn't know what type of pass each player can get (ie constantly tries to bounce pass to Chandler in traffic). Shump IMHO is no PG, not even one who could become one.

The Clippers are obviously a much better team and they have a great coach

Yeah, no handle, no court vision, can't convert lay-ups, can't run a pick and roll. He's a terrible PG in my opinion. He's just not very good.

That's why you have to let Shump have a fresh start. On the Knicks he will always feel his boss doesn't like him because what came out in Summer League. He will feel insecure here and Shump already has proven to be mentally weak.

Just like malodorous said fans will be begging to get him out of town. Just like Felton and beno

Collision/Bullock for shump/Felton would be a very good move i my opinion. Teague makes too much, has too long of a contract and the hawks don't want felton. Knicks lose big time on any of the proposed Lowry trades I have heard rumored.

And he was weak as a point guard at Georgia Tech. One of the reasons given for Derrick Favors' disappointing play in college was Shump's PG play. Shump's future in the NBA will be as a three and D guy. He shoots a decent percentage from teh right side of the floor, he just doesn't shoot enough.

It makes the Knicks a little better without sacrificing longterm cap space. It's far from a panic move. Getting Teague would be a panic move.

How you just gonna slide that in there? Why You gotta crush my dreams?
Not for nothing the clips have been inviting him to play pick up games with the pros for several years. Why a team won't guarentee him money is unreal. The clippers and the knicks have the most interacting with this dude from what I see. 10 day fucking contact what the heel is really good with this?
