Knicks · New Data on the Worst Back-Court in the NBA (page 1)

Bonn1997 @ 2/21/2014 8:30 AM
82games just updated their data.
Our back-court is scoring 28 and giving up 45 points per game! The net per is -9.7.
Maybe it's amazing that Woody has gotten this team to play .400 ball
CrushAlot @ 2/21/2014 8:31 AM
Things are gonna change I can feel it.
Vmart @ 2/21/2014 9:49 AM
THJ will change that. Oh wait Woody starts Prigioni and Felton and the beat goes on.
yellowboy90 @ 2/21/2014 9:51 AM
Whats weird is that the Knicks have the best starting 5 in the league. Small sample alert.

There's nothing surprising about that. All century, our team has played veterans ahead of better rookies. It's clearly not the coach.
And also Yellowboy posted some really bad #s for TH Jr from synergy sports. He can certainly improve over time in those areas but I and others probably have overrated him.

If you only watch Hardaway shoot I could see why you would love him. If you watch him do other things he has been awful and the stats show it. He doesnt rebound. He doesnt pass. Whoever is playing opposite him has an even higher eFG% than Hardway, so everything good you see him do, his opponents are doing better.

I thought folks were tired of watching every guard destroy us night in and night out. Run THjr out there for 30 mins a game and watch the massacre.

Can Timmy Jr be great? Maybe
Can Timmy Jr be an All star one day? Maybe
Is Timmy ready to be an NBA starter? On a lottery team 100% yes. Run him out, take his lumps and let him learn. Knicks need to win games. Woody is coaching for his job and cant suffer rookie mistakes and zero defense/rebounding/everything else.

Im glad we got him. He's a loooooong way from being a complete player. Good start though!

Bonn1997 @ 2/21/2014 11:16 AM
Oh he's putting up great numbers for a rookie but he's not a great or even good player. I don't think we disagree on anything other than how uncommon his scoring abilities so far are.

he's had a hot month on a below .500 and continues to give away all he gets. Not sure whats so uncommon about that.
Bonn1997 @ 2/21/2014 11:41 AM
Again, it's the impressive combination of scoring volume (about a point per 2 minutes) and efficiency that's uncommon. Obviously it's a small sample but 4 years of a potentially very good player on a rookie contract is invaluable.

I thought i was the only one noticing this, he was the one guarding fredette when he hit his season high. He admits that he has to get his defensive awareness up, right now it's pretty brutal, especially in the clutch

Im as excited about Hardaway as much as anyone... people see a rookie hit a couple shots and he gets Ray Allen comparisons. I would be pumped if he's as good as Jamal Crawford. People here are nuts
blkexec @ 2/21/2014 1:17 PM
You need two way players....you also need offensive clutch players. Basically you need a team of players that have defined skill sets and roles. THj fits that mold. And he's only a rookie.
knicks1248 @ 2/21/2014 1:55 PM
I gave woodson a lot of heat for not solidifying shump as the starter considering what JR was dealing with (rehab and suspension)

I also gave him heat for not sticking with the felton/priggs backcourt after having some success last season..

But now when i look at the situation, priggs doesn't shoot nearly enough, shump is ridiculously inconsistent, no wonder he's been scratching his head..

that 3 pointer priggs launch, a potential game tying 3 against memphis, was kidds shot last yr and we won our fair share of close games.
This year were just a dumb team with no clutch players defensively or offensively, and a ridiculously low IQ.

NYStateOfMind @ 2/21/2014 2:38 PM
I'd rather have THJ out there scoring and giving up points, then clowns like Shump & Felton not scoring and giving up points. In the first scenario we stay in the game with a chance to win, in the other, we fall too far behind to catch up and lose for sure.

Pick your poison, I choose THJ.

Another point, because I need to vent. Watching this depressing team all year, why not start JR at the point? There are certain games he doesn't try to score at all, but dishes well and the team succeeds. Run him with THJ, Melo, Tyler, and leave TC in for some rebounds/dunks, and hopefully blocks. Shump/Felton/Amare/Prigs and hopefully Martin on the bench is solid.

Use MWP/Toure/Uhrih or dump them. There are enough energy nate robinson types in the D league to spark a bench and replace JR's scoring on the bench. Coaching, sure players need to execute, but Woody has been horrible. His call playing, stubbornness/loyalty to vets, lack of calling time outs before the game gets out of hand, and terrible offensive schemes, needs to go or stop. Hire a D'Antoni type to run offense already. Prigs can not be the starting PG with his age and lack of offensive confidence, though I love his effort and heart.

This team is like groundhog day, the same trashy b-flick game after game. As a diehard Knicks fan since the early 80s, I keep hoping for that wake up and spark, but lately it is pretty unwatchable. 6th seed is our only hope to avoid complete embarrassment and I think that ship has sailed with amount of games left and lack of moves to get better.

There was no reason not to at least dump Uhrih and/or MWP, maybe Shump. Why play him the last game before the deadline when he was the biggest chip we were willing to give up? We could have picked up a solid defender and a Bobby Brown type. I like that we didn't do more rash moves and compromise the future, but minor deals were there to be had. We dropped the ball on that one and the mediocrity will continue to season's end, be it missing the playoffs or 1st round exit.

There, I feel slightly better.
