Knicks · Now that Metta and Beno are bought out what is next? (page 1)

CrushAlot @ 2/23/2014 12:08 AM
Do the Knicks go young and look for guys from the dl? Do they get guys coming back from china that might push them over the top towards the 8th seed or help them next year? Do they sign a buyout guy? Do they not bring in anyone and save Dolan money? Do they bring up Chris Smith? I think a lot will be told about what this franchise is thinking about the future with what they do.

In my opinion if they can get bobby brown and or Ivan Johnson they should do it. Otherwise I think they should look at the d league and go give some young guys a shot. I look at Tyler like a first round pick at this point. I think there is a lot of value in the d league and I think the Knicks should take a good look at options there. Also I think Murry and KMart's roster spots should be in play for prospects. If Murry is a prospect the Knicks need to give him minutes or let him keep improving his game in Erie. KMart has no role on a lottery team. He is the Knicks best big, their enforcer, the best compliment to Melo, the only guy that can make the big line up work, but if he can't play and the knicks aren't going to the playoffs and the plan is to build a team for when KMart is 37 then it might be time to move on and see if there is a young guy that could turn into something in two years.

Can we acquire Pierre Jackson from the dleague or has that window closed now that the deadline has passed?

Dagger wrote:Can we acquire Pierre Jackson from the dleague or has that window closed now that the deadline has passed?

I think it is closed. There are a lot of guys in the d league that have potential. Some say Jackson's running mate dee bost is the better prospect. Also, Seth curry, Jorge Gutierrez etc.

First, we are going to give one of Denver or Orlando and Franchise changing player this year.
2nd - Repeat process in 2 years. * Note - Also give away 2nd round picks and other assets.
3rd - Sign Melo to 25 million dollar a year deal.
4th - Sign FA's to 50% more than their value as we are now officially Toronto in America, but ruled by Joffrey (Dolan) from Game of Thrones.
As another collapse starts, wait for another Jeremy Lin to fall into our laps. Then stick fans in the heart, again.
Repeat process.

As long as everyone we bring in is loyal to Dolan, I don't care!

EnySpree @ 2/23/2014 5:44 AM

I screen shot this off Bobby Browns twitter.

A fan joked that if Bobby ain't down with CAA then the knicks aren't interested. Bobby tweeted back that he was signed with them.

it could be just him having fun with the fans. It's all good. I would love to have him before he starts to lose a step. He's getting up there in age now.

No thoughts on the roster spots that are open now? I think the Knicks did a great job getting Tyler. I am not sure if they are going to try and repeat tyat with other young guys in the d l or if they have their eye on someone else. I think it is interesting that melo knew nothing about the buyouts.

I wonder if Herb the snitch told Dolan who's in the locker room making all the negative noise outside of Shumpert.

And on cue the Knicks brass bought them out, probably with the guarantee that they won't discuss knicks internal issues to the press.

I continue to like SF/PF hybrid Devin Ebanks, PGs Seth Curry or Kalin Lucas, PG/SG BJ Young, PF Richard Howell (Philippines?) and C Justin Hamilton. Our team is terrible, we're thin at a lot of positions when you take into account who's underperfomed and who's over-the-hill and can't really be counted on anymore for anything significant or to even stay on the court a majority of the time), we have no draft picks this summer and limited resources available to trade into the draft -- I say we go the DL call-up route in a big way...See if we can find a couple of viable young assets to move forward with going this method.

Devin Ebanks can play ball -- he's light years ahead of CJ Leslie by comparison and arguably better pound for pound than any wing we were talking about acquiring the other day (Bullock, Hamilton, Rice Jr.). Showed he belonged when he was with the Lakers. He and Melo together could be a very potent forward duo next year..

Seth Curry should've been drafted last summer. Dude can shoot it well, played very well at Duke, has played even better this year in the DL. Handle, passing, court vision are all much better than he's given credit for imho.

Kalin Lucas is a legit 6'1" PG who won't blow you away in any one area yet he does everything fairly well. No major weaknesses to speak of. This guy would be a tremendous backup PG in the NBA.

BJ Young -- I dunno about any of you, but I see a dynamo of an offensive player here. A guy that could potentially put up points in bunches in the NBA...Something close to Monta Ellis maybe. It's ashame he's not getting more time for the RGV Vipers. This kid needs to be developed. He could be one of the better kept secrets out there. At the very least, I'd like to see the Bayhawks acquire him in a trade somehow and develop him to the fullest.

Rich Howell -- not the biggest, not the quickest but like Kalin Lucas he's above average in all areas. The man's a solid rebounder -- that's where it starts with him and we could use that. Everything else (his ability to shoot, score around the basket) just makes him even more attractive.

Justin Hamilton -- Like what I see a lot. I've seen him criticized for not being an above-the-rim athlete -- so what. A lot of guys aren't. Whatever this guy lacks in innate athleticism he more than makes up for skill-wise. Here's a 7 footer that's knocking down 38% of his 3s, over 80% at the line, close to 10 rebounds per and also has an inside & mid-range game. I think he compares favorably to Nikola Vucevic. I mean what are we waiting for?? Let's find out!

LOL I'm not usually a believer of the stuff you say around here, but I can't think of any other reason Herb has been here as long as he has. We basically force him onto every coach we bring in.

I don't care if you are a believer or not of what I said. Just because people dislike a different voice, a change of opinion when it comes to the majority. It's ok to believe in truth that's not accepted by the majority.

Interesting theory on Herb. I wish a media member would have asked Tyson if he were aware of the buyouts. There has been a lot written about Tyson's relationship with Mills. Isola has said on several occasions that Tyson has Mills ear.

I will say what I said in another thread.
I really would like to see Bobby Brown picked up. He can be that 2nd scorer that is not quite as mental as JR.
I wouldn't mind picking up a D-leaguer to see what he has. Not really familiar with many players. Loved Jackson but his rights are owned.

Great post. Not sure about BJ Young but I will take your word about him. I think Houston and Cleveland have utilized the D league the best of any teams so far. They seem to have a true developmental system in place. Covington, Canaan and Daniels have been allowed to hone their skills and develop in Rio. Cleveland just signed Ounauku, a guy that they have been working with for awhile. I agree with you that there is a lot of talent in the d l. Also, I like that the Knicks have their own team and hope that they follow in the footsteps of Cleveland and Houston in turning the teams into true developmental programs. Pretty sure Houston has utilized the two slots allotted for guys to be on the roster and in the d l all season.

We chose to sign Chris Smith rather than give Kendal Marshall a shot.
