I had my acl reconstruction at St Lukes on 110 st. Back in 05'.....Did not have the best experience. My knee felt like it did before the surgery, which wasn't good. My knee had deteriorated big time and I need to find a good doctor affiliated with a good hospital. My shoulder is fucked up too.
Right now I'm about to just do the referral service with the hospital for special surgeries. They are currently ranked #1 in orthopedics.
Yeah so any of you bums can help that would be cool. Share a story if you don't mind.
Where do the knicks players do their surgeries? They seem to have guys going under every off season.
I don't have any experience with "Hospital of Special Surgeries" but my friend is a nurse there and he said the top athletes in NY go there. He said NY Giant players are sent there and so does celebrities. Take that information as what it is. Second hand information.
Hope you feel better.
been talking to evil about this offline quite a bit. He had his ACL done recently. Im about 15 years removed from ACL, MLC and meniscus reconstruction.. I feel your pain amigo. My shoulder cant be operated on. Ping me this weekend and we can hash it out.
Sucks dude.. keep your chin up. Few things as demoralizing as joint pain every day

Yeah joint pain is only something people that have it really understand. The day to day pain. The adjustments and the ability to work around it and still be able to do amazing things athletically.
Anyway....
I'm still squatting as heavy as I can every week... no outside cardio but I hit the eliptical. I'm still working around my shoulder pain trying to lift as heavy as I can as well.
I'll hit up Evil about his surgery. Fishy me and you and the crew got some unfinished business with a few pints this summer.

i had a full shoulder reconstruction after being hit by a car cycling-- hit and run too-- i went to methodist hospital in brooklyn and the surgeon is dr. monsanto. he did a fantastic job but the rehab is a half year for shoulder reconstruction.
hospital for special surgery is good for leg injuries. dr. inglis would be the guy. his father reconstructed my achilles years ago and did a fantastic job. i am sure his son is great too.
I had my hand/wrist (hamate bone) operated on at hospital for special surgeries. They did a great job.

Back in 05? My ACL replacement was in '12 and it went well. I am back to playing sports, cutting while running, etc.
Compound used to meld cadaver-supplied ACL ligament to the bone.... happens over 6 months. Cadaver provided ligament has quickest recovery time. Patellar tendon can also be used and supposed to be stronger than regular ACL but longer time to bond, recover, etc.
Physiotherapy for 1-3 months during that 6 month period.

Yeah it was a good while ago. They did a graph of the patella cuz the cadaver freaked me out.
My knee crunches when I get up from a deep squatting position. I'm entertainment at family get togethers lol. I had some bad instability issues last week so that got me looking to get it checked out. I put it off too long. Almost 10 years now
Dr. Craig at the Hospital for Special Surgery - saw him for my shoulder. He didn't operate - I tore my labrum. Sent me to PT and things are much better.
I also had surgery there with another Dr. On one of my fingers and it was an excellent experience.
Here is the link to Dr. Craig:

What's going on with your shoulder? Have you had x-rays or an MRI?

Depending on what is wrong with your shoulder you might be able to fix things with p. t. and then switching to lifting with lighter weights. If you switch to lighter weights you can strengthen the shoulder joint and hopefully that will relieve any pain that you have.
My shoulder gives me trouble when I try to lift things laterally. Feel like something is rolling in there.
There is I wide gap btwn the middle delt and front delt. I googled it so I gave an idea what's going on. All need more than google to figure it out.
I just came out the gym on back day. 5reps, 5 sets on everything. I pyramid up starting with 275lbs to 315lbs in the deadlift. I also did heavy bent over rows pyramid from 185-205lbs. Followed by close grip cable rows at the same weight and then lat pull downs pryamid from 150lbs to 190lbs. I finished up with 40 mins on the elliptical.
So basically I don't give a damn about my body lol. I work through the pain. I dunno if I'm hurting myself or not but I can't stop lol.

I would rest and get to the doc to find out/confirm the issue ASAP. You don't want something that's going to linger if you can help it.
How old are you and how long have you been lifting? Unfortunately wear and tear is part of the game but I am sure you know that b

Yeah I wouldn't go anywhere else - they are specialists and are the best at what they do.
