Knicks · Lookintg at the tie breaker for the playoffs (page 1)

BRIGGS @ 3/11/2014 2:46 AM
We are 5 games in the L column and 3.5 games out of a tie for the 8th seed. The 7th seed looks to be unrealistic as it is 6.5 full games.

We are 2-2 H-H against Atlanta so the next tie breaker is conference standings

as of today Atlanta is -1 with 14 games left in the east to go

NY is a -6 with 12 games left in the east

So the tie breaker is going to be much harder to even than the actual 5 games in the lost column as we are -5 yet the room for era is 30% less.

So essentially as of today we are 3.5 games back--but according to nBA tie breakers---4.5 full games back

Atlanta has 13 games left at home 7 on the road

NY has 7 home games left 10 on the road

Atlanta plays 9 teams over .500 in the last 20 11 under

NY plays 9 teams over .500 including their last 7 games of the season and 8 under .500

interesting briggs - thanks for that info.

al davis said it best.. just win baby.

I'm just happy they are playing better. Playoffs would be great, but I'm not betting on them taking the spot.

Though, Atlanta may give it up on their own.

fishmike @ 3/11/2014 8:45 AM
pretty simple.. If ATL goes 10-10 over their remaining 20 Knicks need to go 13-4
RonRon @ 3/11/2014 8:48 AM
At this point it doesn't look like we have a shot to move to 6th to face Toronto
Even making it to 7th is really tough

If we can finish strong and build some momentum/confidence going
We have a decent shot at the 8th spot and could face either Pacers or Miami

gunsnewing @ 3/11/2014 8:53 AM
So basically we are not making the playoffs. Nice of them to finally make a push with les than 20 games left in a 82 game season
callmened @ 3/11/2014 8:54 AM
i have a legit question...what is the POINT in making the playoffs?

if anything it will cloud things and dolan might start thinking: maybe woody wasnt so bad after all...or we have good players, no need to make changes

id rather call this season a wash and avoid getting annihilated in the 1st rd

Now that Milsap is back, it's largely dependant on if the Hawks decide to tank.

For me it avoids the humiliation of handing Denver the no 1 pick. As much as I hate Dolan, it's Knick fans who will never hear the end of it.

Plus looking at the Pacers recent wobble, you never know what might happen come playoff time.

I wouldn't really call this a push as much as I would call it 4 games against shitty competition including two teams that are actively trying to lose games.

If we're playing this way when we get to the play offs, we have a shot at beating either the Pacers or the Heat. Everyone talks about LeBron being better than MJ- but the fact is, they've lost a bunch of games recently that MJ never loses.

But, I agree that heading into this off season, finishing strong allows the FO & Dolan to avoid having to make tough decisions. They can just bring everyone back, hope that everyone being healthy at the start of the season is enough- and to some degree, there is truth in that. I think this resurgence is probably equal parts bad competition, players waking up and some guys just getting healthy and in rhythm and in condition.

If Melo sticks around, there is no reason this team can't aim to play .400-500 ball next year.

its important to everyone.. players, coaches... and in the Knicks case if they are hot enough to get in they will be hot enough to make the first round a series.

You also learn about your players when you see them play another team 5+ times in a row. Dont you want to see if Amare has enough in those legs to destroy Bosh? Dont you want to see if JR can atone for last year's debacle? If Melo can hang with Lebron or outplay Paul George? If THrj can his those shots when it matters?

Exactly, just get in because the Knicks aren't going to get better through the draft. Get in the playoffs and take it from there and call it a new season and a new opportunity.

fish... ATL will not go 10-10 with those many teams over 500. knowing atlanta hawks... they're imploding. more like 5-15, i'd imagine.
