Does that incline melo to stay?
Does he bring shaw to coach here?
Would he take a COACH/GM Role like isaiah had?
DOES HE GET COMPLETE CONTROL of the team?
Do we start running the triangle?

Do we start running the triangle?
1. Only to the extent that it depends on what Phil Jackson wants to do. If he tells Melo that it'll take 3 to 4 years to build a contender around him then I think it would guarantee Melo leaving.
2. Depends is he gets fired in Denver; I can't imagine that we'd do any Doc Rivers-type trade to get him.
3. No way, he's not doing this to coach. If he was then there are probably 10 other, better opportunities for him.
4. I can't imagine that he would agree to come here, especially here, without it.
5. Probably not. The triangle wasn't that popular outside of Phil Jackson coached teams and I'm not aware of any current NBA or NCAA or even NBADL coaches who use it.
Phil is a great coach. He is the Zen Master for a reason. His attributes go beyond Z's and o's it's like joe torre. Give him Jordan and Kobe and he can Zen away
Imo, if phil signs on that signals the end of the melo era unless he agrees to take far less than max $. Everyone including phil knows they cant win a chip with melo taking up 25M or more of cap space, and phil only signs on if he has final decision making authority. With phil on board it will be a change for the better no matter what melo ends up doing.

i will add to this: i think it is important that jackson earns a higher salary than carmelo anthony. but i really don't think phil jackson sees carmelo as playing the jordan/bryant role in the triangle. i have to think jackson sees what many see which is a very limited, not particularly smart or coachable player.

I don't understand this at all. What difference could it possibly make whether or not Phil Jackson makes more money than any individual player on the team?
Jordan made $30mil under Phil but it was a different cba & cap back then. Same with Kobe and Shaq

Interesting. You may be right, although I kinda feel this is a move to hopefully get Melo to stay, as in 'look at this successful guy we just added to the mix to help build the team around you.' Also feel Phil wants the star in his prime -- he might feel he needs that in order to win and have success: Jordan/Pippen, Kobe/Shaq, Melo/? The whole focus might be to get Melo a bonafide 2nd star player and go from there. We'll see.
That's actually not a terrible plan -- I could go either way--keep Melo or break it all down and start anew. Not sure if Phil's the guy who will choose the latter.
I favor a little bit of both -- keep Melo but break down most of the rest -- trade off Chandler, hopefully JR/Felton as well, maybe Shump for a draft pick, allow Amar'e/Bargnani to expire, etc.. Re-tool with mostly young players either through the draft (difficult w/o any picks going in but absolutely make the attempt) or with some promising young, cost-effective FAs. Ride it out next year trying to remain competitive until we can clear up some cap room and then make a run at a top FA(s) in the summer of 2015.
I favor both plans too but not crazy about the 2015 class. I rather be patient and wait til the 2016 class but Melo isn't getting any younger.
Gun to my head. Blow it up. Start over
When is Lebron a FA?
I see he can opt out. We probably have no chance but Lebron and Melo?

We shall certainly see. If jackson keeps Melo at X amount, we will get to see what someone (proven) who actually knows basketball thinks he is worth.
If he lets him go, I will respect his decision.
Should be fun to watch. In Phil I trust (for now
)
well if Melo does not want to play for phil then fuk him. let him go to a team that will allow him to shoot 40 shots a game.
If Melo wants to win and play the right way then he will embrace this.
Perhaps they are trying to media blast him into signing the extension. That would be nice.

Announcer for the Pacers/Celtics game just said Phil wants Melo in NY. Said he wants insurance Melo stays before he agrees to the job. Not sure what his source is.

Thanks. That's a lot more info then I had and much more timely.

I kinda figured as much. This jives with what we know of Phil's prior experience as a head coach -- he's had stars in place in both Chicago and LA and that's where his success has come from (x2 in both places + excellent role players -- hopefully that'll be the formula here if & when he arrives). Looks like he wants star power in place and presumably thinks you need that to win. I kinda believe that myself to a degree. Plus, Phil's an older cat now -- probably would prefer to join a situation where there's already something major in place rather than starting from scratch.
Man, as if there wasn't already existing pressure on Melo to stay, this just amps it up even further -- I mean how does he say no to NY now with Phil Jackson waiting to come aboard only if he resigns? If he bolts, he have to deal with the stigma of deserting NY as well as denying the Knicks Phil Jackson.
