I think the magic # is 8. It's the Knicks' losses and Hawks' wins that you add.

That's the magic number to finish ahead of Cleveland.

The formula is: total games + 1 - team wins - other team's losses.

82+1-30-39

Im still baffled at how we are on pace to win ESpN's predicted win total of 37 wins and they may just hit on the nail. Back when they predicted this you couldn't get the most pessimistic fan to agree to that total we had a 5 game losing streak, a 9 game losing streak and a 7 game losing streak, what is that 0-21

Then, looking at the link, I think the Hawks magic # to finish ahead of us is 9

Yep, which makes sense. They control their own destiny because they don't technically need us to lose any games to clinch and they own the tiebreaker so we would need to win an extra game over them.

markvmc @ 3/27/2014 11:28 PM
At this point, I think the Hawks are deliberately toying with us.

Yep- if we hadn't blown those two games in spectacular fashion, we'd be pretty much in the playoffs by now. How you can lay 2 eggs when in the midst of a battle for the playoff I don't know, but it shows the absence of any heart or passion or will to win. Next game is against the Suns- a team thats actually fighting hard to get into the playoffs, who've worked hard all season despite predictions that they'd be the worst team in the league!

problem is the loss column.. knicks are 2 behind there.. they play the warriors and the suns... those are hella tough games.. the hawks kind of played their tough games, ending last night with a loss to the blazers with Aldrige back.... they have on their schedule team like the sixers and most of their games are at home.. knicks have to be almost perfect and with the teams on the schedule the knicks have, its going to be extremely tough...

Every team is tough for the hawks, just like it is for us, there are no easy games regardless of record. We beat phili by 1, and the twolves got completely destroyed the hawks in ATL, and they are well below 500..

Actually what I ment to say was the two lives are well out of the playoff race..but the Hawks overall are a pretty bad team they had a hot start but there like 6-19 since

I use Siri a lot and its not bad but I certainly know what you mean.

Googles predictability algorithms are much better.

It isn't the playoffs this squad is sniffing, its their own stink. Jackson can't clean house soon enough.

I wonder how deep the cleaning will be. He might decide to sacrifice some of the 2015 cap space to move some of the deadweight out.
gunsnewing @ 3/29/2014 9:14 AM
That is my fear and it would suck. It would make him no different than our previous GM's but I think Phil is smarter than that

not only is he smarter than that he has complete autonomy. that means no matter how impatient the owner or the idiot fanbase is, next season is roster flush and expirings-- just as the first two years of walsh and dantoni was in the wake of isaiah thomas.

the melo era was a waste of our time. BONNNNGGGG last night was the death knell

I don't believe Jackson will take on some longer deals who would mess up our 2015 cap space. What he might do is move players on their last year like Tyson for another expiring contract to maybe audition them for a longer deal. I don't expect a lot next season, hoping that the moves Jackson makes send a signal that only team players will be welcome. Guys who will give maximum effort.

Phil needs to find solid role players next season and go for the big guns in 2015.
